OOC:Kriegheld u can change the picture of ur Halftrac on the map to one like the ones in closing the gap because I think it will be hard to show where ur men are inside the halftrac!

David awoke too the sound of an engine humming in a low monotone in the distance. Lifting his binoculars he crawled towards the window his black merged in with the darkness of the night. Peering through the lenses of his binoculars he scanned the area for the vehicle aided by the sound he sighted the Half Track in the distance it had probable come too cross the bridge and attack the outpost nearby. David crawled back to his men who had all now awakened.

"Here's the situation" whispered David briefing his squad. "We have a Half Track with approximately six SS soldiers making their way towards the bridge".

There was a long silence and David could feel that his men were terrified.

The silence was then broken by Corporal Harper "We have no heavy weapons we stand no chance we should run" he whispered urgently and Sergeant Evans nodded in agreement. David was beginning to think his men were about to turn and flee.

It was then that young Corporal Owain the youngest of the squad intervened. "Stand your ground" he said firmly. "Remember the words of our unit Gwell Angau Na Chywilydd".

Seing the youngest and least experienced member of the Squad prepared to stay and fight put courage into the wavering men. They apologized for their cowardice and readied themselves for the plan.

"Here's the plan we crawl to our firing positions and stay hidden until I give the signal" David said to the men who now seemed to be full of confidence and pride for their homeland.

The Squad then moved slowly to their positions ready to hold the line.

OOC: John is part of David’s squad for this battle because he can’t be a unit of his own.

John Howard awakened remembering that he was on his first combat mission. It was to hold this shed at all costs. Soon he heard the grumblings of the other men. They were talking about hearing a rumbling in the distance. He then heard the Sergeant’s order. He walked over to the corner to pick up his new Lee Enfield Mk4. He picked it up slowly, treating it with respect unknown to other possessions. John then aimed out a window and aimed down its sights. In them saw a tree in his sights. The leaves of the tree were bright green with a rising sun. He could see the bark of the tree; it was dark with the morning dew. John then withdrew his rifle with ease. He quickly looked over the rifle’s light brown or tan wood. Soon, he came to the bolt and brought it back with masterful skill. Inside of the action area was a cocoon of a caterpillar. He quickly swept it out, then tested the bolt again.

John quickly ran up to Sergeant Bevan and asked "Permission to scout the area, and report back to you once I see the enemy column."

A large breeze blew and rustled the small green leaves of the trees that hid Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld and his men. It was a fairly quiet night except for the wind and the rustling leaves. Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld sat against a tree as he slept. He had arrived at 20.00 and ordered his men to rest so they would be ready for any happenings in the morning. It had finally come to be the time for action. Schütze Held woke Hartwig up at 3.30 with a slight nudge. Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld never slept very deeply anymore; it was too dangerous to sleep deeply when the enemy could attack at any moment.

Hartwig got up from his uncomfortable position and looked around the small clearing that he and his men had inhabited. In the middle of the clearing stood a new half-track; the vehicle he had requisitioned from the Schutstaffel Headquaters. It stood immaculate, except for some mud that had attached itself to the wheel wells. It was a beauty nonetheless with its armour protecting the wheels and protecting the cargo from damage. Schütze --------- was waking the rest of the squad up as Hartwig walked to the rear of the vehicle and opened up the heavy steel doors. As his men gathered themselves, Hartwig walked back from the half-track and joined his men. “Männer,” he said in his cool and calculated voice, whispering to keep the sound from travelling, “Gehen in das Wagen, jezt. Schütze Jeider, machen den maschinengewehr. Schütze Bergstrom, driven das Wagen." Hartwig took a seat in the piece of the massive piece of machinery, and held his G43 to the side as the engine revved and the vehicle began to move through the woods slowly, the trees blocking sound from travelling farther than 10 metres.

The half-track stopped at the road and Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld jumped out of the passenger’s seat. Once he got to the back of the vehicle, the men jumped out and Hartwig began giving the orders. “Ich weiß, dass es ein Gebäude auf der anderen Seite vom Bach gibt. Unsere Reihenfolgen sind, beide Seiten von der Brücke zu sichern. Wenn es irgendeine Alliierten da drüben gibt, werden sie im Gebäude sein. Ich will Schütze Bergstrom, den half-track so schnell wie möglich zur südlichen Seite von der Brücke zu treiben. Kreuzen Sie die Brücke, nicht kann es gut mined. Schütze wird Jeider den maschinengewehr und das Feuer auf jedem Fenster besetzen das möglich ist, die feindlichen Köpfe für zwei Minuten zu unterdrücken. Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld then got his men and began into the forest. The wind was up, making sure the sound of their walking was kept to a minimum. It took the five soldier ten minutes to arrive at the stream. It was running fairly slow, but Kriegheld wasn't about to take a chance. He ordered his men to tie the crates together with the rope, making a raft – albeit a small one – to travel across the stream. It was an old army trick that some sergeant from World War One had taught Hartwig when he was a boy. He then helped the men put the ‘raft’ in the water. The four men got into the four crates and Hartwig was given the ever pleasing position of centre, meaning he would have the most uncomfortable place to be. He would put up with it before he made one of his men do it.

The men began going over the stream under the cover of darkness, paddling the watercraft with the butts of their K98 rifles. Upon reaching the other side, the men ditched the raft and Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld ordered the men to check their rifles quietly. The men reported to him that the rifles were in good order and they began moving. Once the group had finally reached the edge of the forest, Hartwig ordered Schütze Kernel and Albertsein to stay behind the tree-line and keep a steady lookout of the building that stood on the stream. Hartwig continued behind the tree-line with Schütze Held and Heiden, looking for the perfect position, finally reaching a position behind the building. The group had ten minutes before the plan went into play, giving them time for a short rest before they would take their next action. At exactly 4.45, Hartwig heard the half-track rev and begin coming down the road as loudly as possible to startle any allied soldiers in the building.

~I know there is one building on the other side of the stream. Our orders are to secure both sides of the bridge. If there are any Allies over there, they will be in the building. I want Schütze Bergstrom to drive the half-track as quickly as possible to the south side of the bridge. Do not cross the bridge, it may well mined. Schütze Jeider will man the machinegun and fire on every window possible to keep the enemy heads down for two minutes. Schütze Heiden, Held, Kernel, and Albertsein, will come with me. Empty those ammunition crates and leave the feeding boxes for Schütze Jeider. Bring the crates and some rope. Schütze Bergstrom, begin the assault in 45 minutes.

David had been watching his enemy's every move through tthe lenses of his binoculars.. He noted that an enemy had mounted the MG42 on the Halftrack and was waiting for a while. David then moved the binoculars slowly to his left making sure not to miss any movement. He could see a fairly large group of soldiers with an Officer making their way towards the river bearing a raft. They were stalking carefully hoping not to be seen David knew they thought they were carrying out a stealth attack. David turned to his squad ready to issue the orders.

"Evans,Harper,Owain you three stay here and watch that Half Track when it get's near I want you all to open fire on the gunner" whispered David hurriedly. "Howard your with me stay low and move to the outside to those trees be ready to open fire on the men in the raft when I fire".

David crawled quickly to the door of the Inn and paused for a few seconds to check that the squad were moving to their posts. He then slowed to a slower speed and stuck to the shadows he knew he would be almost invisible in his black camouflage. He reached a tree quite far away and moved onto the shaded side for maximum cover he hoped it would affect the enemy's accuracy if he were lying prone under the tree in the darkness.

He carefully deployed the bipod of his Bren Gun and checked that the weapon was in good condition. He placed his right eye behind the iron sight and closed his other. He put a spare magazine on the floor beside him ready for a swift reload. After making himself completely ready he gave a little time for the rest of the squad to get ready. And for the Halftrack to emerge from the trees and the raft to near the bank.

Evans,Owain and Harper leaned the barrels of their Lee Enfield rifles on the windowsill. They slowly drew back the bolts of their rifles making almost no sound and placed a spare magazine at their side as David had taught them. They controled their breathing and trained their weapons on the Halftrack Gunner Then the three looked into their iron sights and waited for David to open fire.

David began to take control of his breathing and as the raft neared the bank. He breathed in then when he breathed out he fired a burst of four shots into each of the two nearest enemy Privates. He then fired three bursts at another then sent ten powerfull shots towards the Officer hoping to gain the attention of the halftrack gunner and the men in the raft.

In the confusion that followed Evans,Harper and Owain fired one controlled shot each before getting down prone under the windows. David loaded the spare ammo clip as fast as he into the light machine gun and crouched down behind the tree.

John followed his orders and started following the Sgt. He was following close behind while taking care not to make any sounds. At one point he cracked a twig, he thought he had alerted the enemy. So he continued walking. He kept his new M1 with him. He had his finger on the trigger ready to shoot. Quickly he and Bevan layed down. John ran over to another tree to cover. He laid down in the cool dewey grass. Now, right in front of him are the Germans. He put his M1 to his shoulder and aimed down the sights. The sights were put onto the first man's head. He waited and waited for Bevan to give the signal. Finally, Bevan fired. John joined him and fired the one single shot at the German. He fired another shot quickly after that. Soon all hell broke loose. He aimed at another German and fired. Quickly he began firing into the raft area. He heard a "PING" sound. John now reloaded his M1 quickly and put it straight in (for if you don't you get M1 Finger). He aimed again and started firing.

Moderation Post:[/b]

Hey guys, after every post, I think a moderation post should be made. CPT. Kriegheld made some vast movements and I think potentially, a staff member should've made a mod-mark, on whether he successfully and quietly made his advancements; Not only that, but David Bevan - How on Earth was you able to spot four soldiers in the woodlands, in the pitch black night, running towards the riverbank!?

As far as I'm concerned, the both of you have made some big assumptions. So the following has occured;

CPT. Kriegheld:

• He did indeed only reach the riverbank, when he became underfire and intercepted by the enemy. However, Hartwig and his men had barely entered the water until the Allies had opened up fire on them - Giving them precious time to doge and move into cover.
  

S.SGT, Bevan:

• Miss-Judging the time of opportunity, D, Bevan fired earlier than expected, alerting the enemy that were about to enter the water - giving them time to easily fallback through the darkness and into cover.
  
  
• However, although D, Bevan opened up fire inappropriately early, he did entail one casualty. During his irrational spraying of bullets, one of the German Soldiers was spun from off his feet during finding instinctive cover, as five bullets riddled throughout his torso, instantly killing him.
  
  - Hartwig, please select a name for the fallen soldier.
  

PVT. Howard:

• Shooting towards the enemy, PVT. Howard's bullets cut through the woodlands, but due to S.SGT Bevan opening up fire earlier than expected, PVT. Howard's bullets done little than suppress the enemy further, making them think there could be a whole squad or more across the river.
  

Again, due to the large assumptions made. Hartwig with his vast movements across the map and D,Bevan intercepting the enemy at the riverbank (cancelling out Hartwig's post), you have both encountered fails to balance it out.

- Hartwig losing 1 man and being stopped at the riverbank.
- Bevan shooting earlier than expected and alerting the enemy.

Sorry if you find this unfair, but in future, with vast movements made, please request in your post that you'd like a staff member to clarify you made it secretly and safely across the map without being seen.

OOC: The man I lost was Gerwulf Held. Also, wait for PuNk! or another mod to make a post before posting yourself.

No sooner had Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld and his men dropped the crate-raft into the water than had shots been fired. Hartwig threw himself to the soft ground and looked up to see the flashing of the automatic weapon before he got his head down. As he put his head down, Kriegheld felt a heavy weight fall on him. He looked up and found Schütze Held lying on him, dead, and leaking blood onto Hartwig. Once the firing stopped, the other men stood up and dragged the body off Hartwig. After getting up, Hartwig gave one quick order, “renn! Renn!” He led the charge to safety toward the dirt road. He hoped he could get to the half-track before the allies fired again. Suddenly, he fell into a one and a half metre deep trench; the kind that is painful when you fall into it. He got up and kneeled in the earthen haven as he heard the half-track arrive conveniently next to the trench. The machine-gun fire began as Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld clambered out of the hole and jolted behind the armoured vehicle to open the doors. His men followed in and they were finally safe in the vehicle.

Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld stood up in the rear of the vehicle to give orders to the driver and gunner, “Jeider, hören Sie nicht auf, zu feuern. Feuern Sie auf irgendetwas, das bewegt. Bergstrom, erhalten Sie uns über jene Brücke und neben jenem Gebäude.„ The captain trusted his men to do their job. The vehicle began to move as quickly as possible, headlights glaring. The vehicle pulled in front of the building and pulled around the trees behind the building and came to a safe place behind the building. Hartwig kicked the doors open and the men jumped out and lined up against the wall as Jeider kept firing into the building.


As the half-track pulled up to the bridge, Schütze Jeider began firing on the corner of the building where the gun flashing was coming. He sprayed the corner of the building, feeling the once strong kick of the MG42 become an almost normal rumbling as he unloaded the bullets into the building. He wouldn’t run out of ammunition any time soon since he had attached all of the ammunition chains together. He would get a few more minutes before switching barrels. As Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld got in the half-track he ordered Jeider to continue firing. The half-track began moving and Jeider continued firing on the corner of the building. He stopped and switched out the hot barrel as the half-track passed the building. He began firing into the side of the building as the vehicle pulled up next to it and the men in the half-track got out.


Schütze Bergstrom listened clearly to Kriegheld’s orders. He waited and began driving down the road and stopped at the bridge when the gunner began firing on the building across the stream. Bergstrom felt the doors open in the vehicle and he suddenly heard the voice of Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld telling him to go across. Bergstrom followed orders and crossed the bridge, pulling in front of the building and going around the trees to get to the backside of the building, thereby giving Kriegheld and the other men a better position to raid the enemy.

Oh Kriegheld!!! You fell right into the trap.
Due to David Bevan using Mines, I’m going to have to cross-out well over half of your post, as you hit them unknowingly halfway through. Just don’t have much luck, do you?

Then again, it’s a big blessing in disguise, as the halftrack arrived up the side of the trench (hit the mines) whilst you was still in cover. Could’ve been more fatal.

CPT. Kriegheld:

• BOOM!

[/b] a simultaneous explosion erupted as both of the mines, placed fairly close together upon the dirt-track exploded beneath the front of the halftrack. Wildly, the front of the halftrack bounced upwards about half a foot from the explosion beneath it’s treads, instantly killing the driver as shrapnel broke through the welling of the floor and imploded inwards the small slits of the driver’s front window.

- Please name a unit for your fallen soldier.

[/li][li] The halftrack spun uncontrollably off the dirt-road and down against the riverbank; The right half of the halftrack’s treads have been completely blown off and due to the front engine sustaining a heavy amount of damage, the vehicle is now immobile and smoke is clustering from beneath it’s bonnet.

- During the irrational moment the halftrack veered off the road, the gunner was launched from off the back of the halftrack into the dirt. The gunner is knocked unconscious from hitting the dirt and his left collarbone is broken. The unit is in no real danger of dying, but will be unable to fight for the remainder of the thread. Due to the unconscious/comatose state and the broken collarbone.

- No other casualties were involved, due everyone being in a small-slit trench at the time.

David laughed uncontrollable hearing the sound of the mines being triggered closely followed by the screams of a dying enemy. He heard his men cheer. The results of the two mines exploding simultaneously had caused cataclysmic effects. the driver had been killed instantly and the gunner had been sent through the air and sprawled on the ground. David leapt to his feet and jogged towards the bridge.

"Seems like Davids crossing the bridge we have to keep the enemy stuck in that trench and pinned down and if they try and escape well hit them anyway" whispered Sergeant Evans.

Evans,Harper and Owain drew back the bolts on their Lee Enfields then breathed in then out then sent their shots hissing through the freezing French air towards the top of the trench hoping to keep the enemy pinned down and make sure they didn't look out of the trench.

With the sound of the men firing masking some of the noise David might make he crawled along the bridge moderately quickly. A few seconds before he entered their firing zone Davids men ceased firing to avoid friendly fire. David arrived at the end of the bridge and grinned as he drew a grenade from his belt.

He readied himself and lifted one arm in the air ready for an over arm throw. He got up into a crouched position and pulled the pin after cooking the grenade for two seconds he sent it hurtleing through the air towards the nearest part of the trench.

Before the grenade hit the ground David had already got down prone and begun firing the contense of his clip at the top of the trench attempting to keep the enemy's from escaping after he had exhausted his ammo he drew another clip reloaded and retreated across the bridge quickly with his men covering him. He then leapt over the trench crouched down and tucked inside the inn.

First off; David, you've used a completely different map? There is no path and Kriegheld's positions are not drawn onto the map. What happened to the updated version of the map I supplied?

Also, please reframe from drawing DOZENS of red lines. If you truely want the number of your shots to be recorded from your men, list them at the bottom of your post. Rhys has done this in his threads and they work very well. Much more better than drawing millions of lines.

Due to the dozens of lines and total change in the map; I'm not going to be using it for my next mod-mark. Mainly because it's completely unreadable and pointless.

Following actions have been made;

David Bevan:

• Crawling across the bridge into friendly fire, they didn't exactly see you through the thick of night due to your dark-camo - A bullet ripped straight through David Bevan's left leg as he was crawling across the bridge.
  
  - Although the wound is not completely a major wound, it is very painful and the bleeding is profound due to it cutting straight through the flesh part of the thigh.
  
  
• Throwing the grenade, it landed outside the trench and rolled into a mound of dirt. The explosion has highly startled the enemy and temporarily deafened CPT. Kriegheld and his men in the trench, but the grenade it's self has caused no casualties.
  
  
• Trying to run back to the lodge/inn, David Bevan has failed and merely reached the embankment to the lodge/inn. His wound has slowed him down and prevented him from hurrying back...
  
  NPC's Actions;

[/li][li] Blind-Firing at night towards the Enemy Trench in the dark, most of their bullets have closely missed or hit the slumped halftrack blocking their line of sight towards the enemy.

John was now waiting for any sight of moovement on the other bank when "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM" the half-track exploded. He heard David laughing his ass off from the explosion. It made John start grinning. Then as if on reflex John saw Bevan running on the bridge. John was now hearing firing coming from the inn. John decided to wait for them to stop firing. Mark had a good spot, because if anyone got up the blazing half-track would expose them. John decided to give supressing fire any way and started firing at the slit trench. He had now fired of two clips. He fired off 4 more clips to pin the enemy. When he reached to grab another clip he felt nothing. He whispered "Damnit" to himself. He found no more bandoliers on himself. John decided to take off his bag and grab the rest of them. John slowly and quietly took off his bag. He reached in and grabbed 8 bandoliers. He knew where they were do to him placing them ontop of his bag. He put them on himself so if he had to mve they would come with him. John was now aiming down the cool crisp sights on his M1. He was waiting for any sign of movement. He decided to wait there for the movement to come.

Just for the record, the Halftrack hasn't exploded. It's veered off the road due to the mines exploding and now smoke is just fuming from out of the front bonnet; No flames, no fire. Just smoke and a dormant Halftrack slumped from off the side of the road.

Also, John. You haven't been editting the map, I'm assuming you're still in the woodlands to the West? (Left hand side). Where the riverbank is?

PVT, John Howard:

• Attempting to shoot through the small woodlands from his current position, the M1 Garand's firing done nothing more, than startle the enemy into keeping their heads down. Due to firing still coming from their left-flank, across the river.
  
  - None of the shots incurred any casualties, mainly due to the fact, there is no real line of fire from PVT. Howards position upon the enemy.

OOC: Just stating the obvious: Remember, it is dark with little moonlight.

Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld ducked as he heard the bullets slice the air and hit the half-track. He stood up and pulled the unconscious bodz of Schütze jeider into the trench, just as he heard a thump on the ground behind him. After it blew up, Harteig slowlz peaked out and ordered the men to run. His second defeat sank into him as he dragged the unconscious body of Schütze Jeider out of the trench, dodging fire. He pulled the man until he reached the tree-line and picked the man up and hung him over his shoulders. He jogged with the man on his back, banging his rifle against the man's side as he reached a place deep in the woods and set the man down on the soft dirt. Hartwig took deep breaths, recovering from the short stint.

The other three men soon came as well, asking Hartwig for orders. He began, "Männer, ein Fehler gemacht. Was seht ihr?" Schütze Heiden looked up to Hartwig, Hauptsturmführer, Ich einer Schrei gehört. Ich denke ein von ihnen hat ein Wunde." Hartwig thought to himself as the wind began blowing. There was still about one more hour of darkness, one of their men was wounded somehow, and it seemed that there were about three others out there due to the consistency of the firing. Kriegheld would have to leave one man with Jeider until he woke up and the two of them could get back to the half track to use the machine-gun that should still be in working order. If he sent a decoy to the raft, it might be a sufficient attraction getter to start some more firing. Once the firing started, Kriegheld and Albertsein could get into the water without being heard and wade over to the building. It was a hard decision. If Jeider didn't wake up soon, it might not work. He wasn't going to lose this without a real fight.

The decision was made, "Heiden, abspreizen mit Jeider. Kernel, gehen zu der Bach unter den Baumen. Liegen auf dem Boden und warten bis Sie hören Geschützfeuer. Albertsein komm mit mich. Keeping low to the ground, Hartwig and Albertsein finally reached their position and lied down on the ground, not daring to speak, their green-grey uniforms keeping them as hidden as possible behind the bush. They pulled their rifles out, since they were already loaded, there was no need to making any clicking noises. They pointed the rifles down at the building, at the windows that reflected what was left of the moonlight.

Kernel took his time as he walked down to the position they had been in earlier, keeping his energy up. He finally reached the raft that sat next to a tree. He wouldn’t use the raft to cross the river this time. That would be too risky. Instead, he got down and lay behind the tree, pointing his iron sights down the right side of the tree towards the bridge and house. He wouldn’t pass off shooting an officer or something in the open.

Few things but time went through Heidens mind as he sat looking in the face of his unconscious comrade, Jeider. He hoped to god the man would wake up soon enough for Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld’s plan to work. His fingers were twitching, but other than that, Jeider was still out cold. He knew they only had about another hour until the sunlight would end the operation.

• Moving through the woodlands with PVT. Jeider, they both stealthily reached their location "UnSEEN" by the Allies. The Thick of darkness and woodlands keeping them concealed from any Allied Eyes.
  
  
• PVT. Kernel quietly made his way to the raft "UnSEEN" aswell.
  
  
• (Are there two Jeiders? You mentioned the unconsious man being called Jeider too)
  - The Unconsious Gunner stirred a little and moaned, the pain from the broken collarbone slowly setting in and helping the progress to waking him up, but his moans could attract unwanted attention?
  
  
• The Allies Morale is High!
  - They think the Axis have fallen back.
