Time of Day (24 Hour Clock): 2045; 30 October 1942.
Current Weather Conditions: Sun setting, twilight; partly cloudy with on-and-off drizzles every 30 or so minutes.
Map: RED = Laya; BLUE = NPC Conscripts on top floor/balcony; PURPLE = NPC Conscripts on bottom floor.
Dotted white lines indicate windows, Dotted Yellow are doors.
Laya glanced out one of the shattered windows of the factory. No sign of German troops...for the moment. But she knew that they would attack sometime within the night. If it weren't for the few fires around, it would be even dimmer than it was now. The factory, which produced farm equipment and tractors pre-war and then, til a month ago, tanks, was the biggest building within a hundred meters. It was partially destroyed on it's East side, but most of the rest was still standing. Directly in front of and below Laya was the factory's powerhouse, which was still able to provide lighting until the most recent bombing of the area. Strangely, the two massive smoke stacks, over one hundred fifty feet tall, were almost undamaged. Would make a great place for a sniper, if one could get up there...
Laya sipped a bit a rainwater that had pooled on the floor. She was somewhat fatigued, and could feel her her empty stomach growling...every so often, it gurgled loud enough that her other troops could hear. But for now, she was focused on keeping watch, making sure that there were no Germans attempting to sneak in the fading daylight. "Anyone else see anything?" she quietly asked. "No, not yet," answered one. Laya sighed. "Right...but if you do, don't open fire just yet, don't wanna give your positions TOO soon..."
But DO come soon, before I die of boredom!
Laya leaned out of the window to take a better look around. After scanning a few moments before quickly hiding herself again. The wait was nerve-racking, especially since it was getting dark. Seconds seemed like minutes, minutes seemed like hours...she needed something to happen, and soon. She held her rifle against her breast and sighed, looking at the troops there. There were two other Junior Sergeants, and another ten soldiers of low rank, four of which were under Laya's command...some up with her, some down below. One thing that was certain, though, was that Laya expected (and hoped) that they would all perform equally well--especially the other two Sergeants, and especially herself; they had a bigger burden on their shoulders than the low-ranking conscripts.
She rubbed her soft cheek and sighed. Sure, she wasn't as likely to die right now, but it sure allowed her to think about how and when it would happen. Even though the tall, chubby woman was hungry, at the same time she felt her gut twisting in a knot out of nervousness. Of course. That's another reason she wanted to fight right now; you get so racked up, stressed, and nervous almost to the point of nausea, but once you were fighting, you quickly became "too damn busy" to remember it.
...................
Her stomach let out another audible rumble.
God dammit, something needs to happen! This silence is maddening...if ANYTHING else, it'll get my mind off how hungry I am...
