David whipped the sweat from his brow and stepped into the bunker. The shade felt great far better than remaining outside in the sweltering heat. Inside he saw the two Sergeants their eyes scanning the desert for any signs of life. Intelligence had suggested that an SS soldier with great skill was going to likely to attack that day.
David hated the enemy but he did not want to kill one brave enough to attack alone if he had the choice. He moved over to the window and began searching the vast open desert alongside his men. He drew his water canteen and sipped it slowly enjoying the cold refreshig liquid flow down his throat.
He looked out across the wasteland. Shell holes littered the open ground before them providing slight cover for an enemy attack but nothing he they handle. Luckily the shells of the barrage had fallen short of the outpost. David knew well he and his men could have been wiped out.
Corporal Harper had been placed in command of the Bren Carrier he was sat in the gunners seat ready to fire at anything that moved out in the desert. he remembered Davids orders. David's men had been told to fire at non lethal areas on enemies as command wanted to gain information on SS activity in the area.
Harper checked that his men were also watching the desert. The men in the Bren carrier had brought plenty of extra water canteens as standing outside in this heat was torture without drinking often. They had been told to have a swig of water any time they felt thirsty as dehydration is a soldiers worst enemy.
Spotter Henry looked out across the sea of sand before him his eyes glued to the lenses of his binoculars. he was in his element there was no way he would not spot any approaching enemy especially in open terrain like this. His M1 carbine rested against the hard concrete wall of the Bunker ready for immediate use.
Henry turned to Callard the sniper "John you are the only one of us given permission to fire at lethal areas. Be ready to shoot any enemies in the shoulder or the head if that's all you can see. You must keep an eye on the desert as there is a very slight chance I may not see an approaching enemy as i am watching a lot of ground though that's what I'm here for."
"Yes" replied Callard simply without taking his vigilant eye from the scope of his Springfield sniper rifle.
David signaled to his men to ready their weapons for fire. They then went back to watching the desert the iron sights on their Submachine guns pointed wherever the searched. The three took cover behind the concrete their weapons pointing out through the windows. David had made sure his mens weapons were tied tightly to them with their slings so they could not lose them in the combat that would follow. David had even tied a thin durable piece of to his Browning hp so it could not be lost.
