Character Name:
Michael Stemmler
Allegiance:
Fallschirmjaeger
Requested Rank: Oberleutnant
History:
Michael Stemmler was a German born in the Free City of Danzig, son of Heinrich and Martha Stemmler. Being born on September 1st, 1914 became unwanted. The German Empire and it's allies were at War, and the start of World War 1 had only just begun. Michael's father had been garrisoned for months, in preparation for the eventual war caused by the Serbian attack. His childhood proved to be lonely, only his mother was available after birth to care and love for him. Michael grew up on a farm, slowly learning the ropes from his mother on how to care for the fields and crops. It wasn't until Michael turned four, that he'd realize something terrible had happened. After a few visits from his father during the war, his mother announced that his father would never be able to visit again. Michael didn't realize what she had mean't, but he quickly learned that his father had vanished for ever.
During his pre-teens, Michael began learning more and more about his father's past. His bright spirit and passion that drove him to accomplish his goals. His father was a patriot, hard working and an incredibly talented man. His past education made him a valuable asset when the war came to Europe. Michael realized this, and began to model himself after his father. During school, he'd focus on his academics, rather then unimportant tasks with friends. His drive became so apparent, that his friends began to shun him out of their social circle. He continued this attitude, up until his eventual acceptance into University. During his late teens, he began expanding his training regime into the physical side of things. Going on long runs, doing pushups and the attempted weight lifting he could do at the farm. Never stopped pushing himself, ensuring that he was better then he was the day before.
When Adolf Hitler began recruiting for his massive military force, Michael began to get increasingly interested. His father served his country before him, and Michael felt obligated to do the same. He looked through the different options, and stumbled upon an air unit known as the Fallschirmjaeger; and elite parachute infantry unit. It began recruiting in 1936, and Michael began jump school immediately. Since Michael completed a university program, he was able to join this elite unit as an officer. His academic skills, along with his physical skills were excellent at the time. His ability to lead by example was exceptional, and he quickly became a favored member by the command staff. By the end of jump school, Michael was given his "diving eagle" badge, and a promotion to go along side it. He hadn't even done anything in combat, and yet things were already starting on the right foot. As soon as World War 2 was declared, Michael and his unit were assigned with assaulting the Belgium complex, Fort Eben-Emael.

Michael sat still, staring out into the dark evening sky. The clouds lay low, with the stars sprinkled above it. It was a beautiful sight to see, and it was hard to keep your eyes off such a sight. His attention was brought back into reality for a moment, his platoon sergeant Walter Hienkel spoke softly. "Were about 50 clicks out, about to get dropped off shortly." Michael nodded, and quickly looked back towards the back of the glider. His men sat still, holding their weapons close, and pictures of their loved ones even closer. Michael gave a quick whistle, then motioned with his hands towards the group. It was a warning, "Prepare your weapons". The men tucked their personal belongings away, and began preparations on their equipment. Michael turned back towards his lap slowly, drawing his attention to a map and some personal notes. He began from the beginning, make sure not to leave a single detail out.
It was an assault on a Belgium fortress known as Fort Eben-Emael. It served as a strategic stronghold, defending three different bridges. These bridges led straight into the heart of Belgium, and was a key asset for the Third Reich. Michael's platoon was split into three different gliders, all led by a different member of Michael's NCO party. They were to be towed in by Ju-52's, then dropped off shortly before the target. The silence of the gliders made it an outstanding element of surprise, something the assault would need.
