Nikolai's curiosity pushed him into asking the question. It was also another way for him to lead another vibration from her vocal chords that made Nikolai's ears dance when they caught wind of her angelic voice. He also loved hearing the way she said things. She always kept him guessing. Would it be another part of their jokes? Would it be a mysteriously alluring answer? Would it be a deep and knowing answer that made Nikolai's heart feel in beat with hers? He never knew and he loved that.
"You'll see."
Her answer was a mysteriously alluring one as she so enjoyed doing to Nikolai. He felt as if she was baiting him into her trap. But he would gladly fall into it if it were, but he knew she had no ill plans for Nikolai. She had told him she had an apartment where she had been staying for a little while. His interest and curiosity of this new place started to go through his mind and the two lovers walked hand in hand.
The surroundings were as expected. The barren land held no inhabitants as they were all of working or at war with the enemy. Nikolai's eyes scanned the area. They looked over all of the small areas he knew he could fit into if he needed to hide and take a firing position. His training never left him; even in these situations. Odd how you can train someone or something so well that they see the training wherever they go from then on in life.
The two lovers were en route to an apartment building. A nice place to live, much nicer than what Nikolai had always lived in. Nikolai was a simple man, born and raised. The only skill he held above his peers was his acute ability to read. His mother used to buy him a book every year for his birthday. His favorite and the last book that his mother ever bought him was Eugene Onegin. He always loved deep reads that lead him to think on after he was done reading.
Once at the apartment building, Nikolai saw what would be a well kept garden and a large gray building with multiple stories. Once inside, there was a very plain living room where there was nobody to be found. Russia was empty of its natives as expected. even the front desk was empty. Odd.
Nikolai let Ivana's soft hand lead him to the second floor where he assumed her room was. After walking a little ways down the hallway, the two stopped. She let go of his hand and fumbled about for a few seconds. She then picked up a key and unlocked the door with the number 105 in metal on the it. She stepped into the room and Nikolai followed her in.
"Here we are, I know it is not much, but it is larger than the motel room."
He looked around, taking in all that there was. He walked behind Ivana and grasped her coat lightly so she could take it off with ease. Nikolai then took his own coat off and hung it on the coat rack near the door.
"It is very nice Ivana." He said with a smile as he looked around.
He was unaccustomed to the niceties that this apartment had. The motel they stayed in the night before was the best he had ever had, which was saying very little. The apartment was warm and had plenty of room. Plenty of room was another thing he had never known. He shared his bedroom with both his brother and sister growing up. It was tight living space, but it was better than sleeping in a tent or under the cold winter stars. When it was summer, Nikolai and his brother Yuri would often go to their secret fishing spot and camp there for a few nights. Nikolai missed those nights.
"So, my love, where did we leave off?" Nikolai said with his hands in his pockets, leaning up against the wall. A playful grin touched his lips as he looked at the fair Russian with a raised eyebrow.
"You'll see."
