I have an idea for a new Defenders and Attackers battle, and I am wondering if anyone would be interested in participating in it? The objectives and setting aren't the important part right now, they will be figured out once I know what characters are fighting. What is important however is the weather. It will be a battle within a blizzard.
The snow storm will have many side effects, from stealing the breath from soldiers and slowing them down, to temporarily blinding the combatants as a sudden burst of icy wind barrels through the map. And to accommodate this aspect I will attempt to recreate the fog of war that was used in the one Premium Battle that PuNk! modded. So each side will only be given modmarks that explain what their side would know, and they would unable to see the enemy's maps and threads until after the battle.
All of this would give this battle a uniquely challenging twist unseen on IO in a long time. If anyone is willing to step up to the challenge, let me know what character you would like to use. Since both the Western and Eastern Fronts famously had fighting in the snow, any nation can enter and once the characters are picked we can move on the the next steps.
I might be interested in participating with Ziu, depending on when this battle takes place. It would fit in his timeline, as he was with the German forces up until about late 1940/early 1941. Would it be around that time?

Yeah, I get the feeling it would end up something like that...
Though I feel I should mention that the earliest this could possibly take place (on the Eastern Front at least) would be during the winter of 1941, so I don't know how that works for you, Jarppii.
This I can work with. If it is in January of 1941, Joe, then I can say (especially if you bring mines) that this attack was the one that broke Ziu's spirit, and led to him fleeing his handlers later.
Alright, since we have all agreed on this arrangement I will create the map tonight, and then if everyone is ok with the situation the match with begin tomorrow. For the map I'm thinking a semi-rural town that had recently suffered a devastating skirmish. In 8 rounds the blizzard will be at it's worst in, and neither man nor animal wants to get caught in it. So the primary objective for both sides will be to find sturdy shelter before then. The secondary objective might be to get to a supply cache somewhere in of the buildings, containing both weapons and food.
The Soviets will be attacking, and since Joe's a cpl, consist of 4 basic soldiers armed with Mosin-Nagant bolt action rifles. For yourself Joe, I'll let you pick your own weapon out of the shop but if it doesn't use the same basic rifle ammo I may have to limit your ammo to keep things fairer. This kind of battle has never been done here before, so I don't really know how the battle will go.
On the other side we have the canines defending, they will post first and be made up of at most 8 dogs.
Now, I had planned to try out a new way to play the battle, have two password protected threads, one for Allies and one for the other side, and then only give each side the information they would know. Something similar was done once before, but since this battle already has a lot of new and unique features for Joe and the whole site is new for Sui, I can understand if either of you would want to do it the old way.
Let me know what you think, about these ideas and the map I am about to create, and we can get. this battle rolling.

This is fine with me. As a suggestion, however, I would give the Soviet side pistol ammo and hand-to-hand weapons, such as knives. As far as I know, the military does include training for dealing with attack dogs, troops in WWII included - I would be willing to go from eight to six or five dogs to even the odds, for further balance.
Bayonets and entrenching tools are basic equipment for NPCs and players, so they will have melee weapons. As for pistols, I would be open to the idea, Joe, especially since your enemy suggested it.
Ok, here's the map White is a one decimeter layer of snow. Gray is snow and dirt that's been packed down and is the easier to walk over. Blue are snow drifts that are big enough to cover a whole man and will need to be dug out if it's covering an entrance. Red are closed doors. Green are windows. The solid black box is the husk of a destroyed truck. And the bottom right structure is now littler more then a single wall.
I hope you can understand this, if not let me know and I'll work on any problems so we can start as soon as possible.
I have no issue with this map. I also understand the system being used. I would, however, like to wait for Joe's input, as I feel it would not be fair and balanced if he did not give his opinion on the set-up.

The map looks great. As for the thread style, I'm not in a picky mood as you may have guessed, so I'm good with whichever works best for you Mac. Be that private threads or business as normal.
Concerning weapons, I'll roll with a Mosin and a TT-33 pistol.
Also, will a map per post be mandatory or just optional but encouraged?
As long as you aren't gonna do anything too complicated, I suppose a map isn't necessary. The map is simple enough that I shouldn't getlost while reading your post.
