I've actually been thinking about how to revive IO lately and it's cool to know I'm not the only one.
If you guys want to bring her back I think we need to start with a list of reasons why she started to flag in the first place and work to solve those issues.
The actual look of the site is easy enough to fix like some one else mentioned so that's not really a long-term problem. And I think all the shop items are still buried somewhere in the bowels of the site so they at least aren't lost.
The list of issues would include things like a structural over-reliance on staff for almost anything to get done, lack of advertising to keep fresh faces popping in, etc.
in my five months off the internet i've done a lot of studying, planning, etc. IO is what got me deeply interested in WWII. There are tons and tons of things that can be done to improve the experience. I've sat up late at night switching things, pondering imrpovements. I've had to ask myself what makes IO unique. Is it the interaction of characters in a neutral? Many roleplays do this. Very few bother to do so in a historical WWII setting. None to such a high standard as IO.
Is it the battles? IO certainly is unique in the style battles are fought, and in the potentially devastating consequences. The full potential of battles here is untouched due to the immense weight of information to be digested by a moderator, if battles were to be more detailee. I've literally DREAMED of keeping inventory of every soldier in a section, and squad, platoon, company, battalion! A much more detailed shop, and maybe even a standardised battle map program.
Everything that can increase the amount of informaton available while making it easier on both the roleplayer to access and the moderator to implement.
Damn I love IO. We'll reach greatness yet. Btw, ERIK was on? And I MISSED it?

Well first things first, we need to fix the site's structure. Any graphics that need to be updated, or threads that need to be fixed.
Then we need to figure out where half our staff went, without the Admins we can't really do what we want to do.
Also, advertising is something we all must take part in. If you are on a different site, the least you can do is put IO in the section that says "Your Site", or you could put the link to the site in your signature.
Lastly, I think the site needs a restart, I hate to say it but it's true. Everyone resets, being kill's, victories, CP, ETC. Units need to be revamped or replaced, and the theatre's of war need to be changed. I think it's time we add another location, it doesn't necessarily have to be Iwo Jima either.
I'd love to help in any way, but these things need to happen first.

Doesn't anyone have a way to get in contact with punk? I can imagine he'd be very glad and helpful to see his baby get back on it's feet.
Also resetting everything doesn't really make sense to me as I feel it would be a bit of a punishment to those who been here long of course a lot of us who joined a year and a year and a half ago wont loose much but those who been here since the launch would really be kicked in the back I can imagine
I saw punk on xbox live yesterday, and I think someone has his actual phone number, too.
As for fixing the site up a bit, I could piece some stuff together the next time I'm near my laptop. We were working on a streamline of the site's look before the big slow, so it's just a matter of bringing some of that online.
And if we can off-load some staff responsibilities onto the community then our absence won't be quite so devastating.
And I don't see a particularly... There was an adjective I was thinking of but now I can't remember what it was. Either way, a reset I don't see happening. This isn't really a game that anyone "progresses" in. Vets aren't at any inherent advantage other than simple experience with the system. A smart, realistic noob can beat a complacent vet. That was one on the big hooks that kept me coming back here for 4 years.
Sent from my VIVO 4.3 using proboards
Edit: Compelling. That's the word I was thinking of. I can't think of a compelling reason for a reset.

Yayyy~~ IO will be good as new then~ I can help with the advertising. o w o I know one of my friends has a character on here by the name of Seth. I can talk her into coming back again~
"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
I don't know how punk would feel about me giving it out, but he IS my facebook friend. I can't log on on this ipod though. JT is his friend too, I believe.
As far as resetting? It's unnecessary. Everything that you'd think should be kept-battle stats and promotion history, unit rosters-are really just text on a page. As far as the shop goes, I've had a little free time and have secretly been building a new one on my home pc. Creating thumbnails, descriptions, possible prices. It's turning out to be larger than the old shop. I'm completely open to input and change on this. It was just a little project for balancing existing items and adding a few more, testing different npc benefits and such.
The site look can be fixed no problem. A few touches up and she'll be right as rain. I'd be happy to help if i had REAL internet with a REAL computer. The library here lets you get on their comps for no more than 45 minutes. Not enough time to do anything, whicch is why i never go.
I've been trying to budget for a new pc and inernet but money's tight, so it could be six months before I get enough to really be active here.
Keep you eyes on the prize, people. IO 2.0. IO 2000! IO 2001! IO in 3D! 'Cause we're just bitchin' awesome that way.
I'd say the biggest problem that absent staff caused was that characters weren't issued their gear when they started or issued cp/sp at the end of threads. We don't have to worry about those things now that the shop has closed up... shop. Once we replace it with a shop thread, I assume(Unless anyone knows of a shop code for the new format?) I think we all could be trusted with giving a fair mod mark and issue cp/sp. For now anyway, once new people arrive we would probably have to rethink the open modding policy, if we implement it.
Speaking of modding, I'd be happy to mod if anyone wants to start a battle.
To prevent bias we just need to have the mod and cp giver to be different people. If the mod is bias, they don't get their cp, or just less. If the mod let a player break the rules or something, then they would both get little to no cp.

Well as long as it's fair for both sides, I don't mind!
