Character Name: William Sinclair
Rank: Private
Nationality: Scottish
History: William Sinclair was born into a middle class family in a town in Lanarkshire, his father was an officer of the Royal Scots dragoon guard, his mother a nurse at a hospital. He also have an older brother and an older sister as well as a younger sister. His childhood felt very standard at least that was how he felt very little of extreme importance happened it was mostly just going to school and attending his studies. During his time in school he was an above average student and made friends like any other. At a young age he signed up with a boy scouts group.
His time in the boy scouts he was glad for it prepared him for being outside doing all sorts of funny stuff, it was more interesting then just being in school. They went camping, fishing, helped with different stuff they even learned how to ride. His parents was glad that one of their sons had an interest that did he had something to do a lot of the time, going to camps and making friends. Throughout a lot of his childhood though he didn't see much to his father who constantly moved between unit meetings and home, but none the less the family was a tight family and a glad family.
They were all celebrating the day that William's older brother was accepted into an officers school. That day William decided that he would want to besides serving his conscription he would try and make a career in the military like his older brother and his father. So in the outbreak of the world war he was annoyed that he was old enough but kept on with his duties because now instead of just doing small stuff their training became a bit harder and they started to do what they could to support the troops.
In 1941 he couldn't wait any longer and went to the local recruitment office and signed up as infantry and was put into the Cameronians Scottish Rifles. During his training he excelled as a marksman at the extensive training he received and he was glad for having been in the scouts it prepared him for a lot of the training and made it feel easier to him. He also felt glad that his father was proud that both his sons served and wanted to defend their country, Although his mother and sisters was sad and prayed often hope that none of them would be hurt, prayers William was glad was done.
Throughout his training he also improved on navigation by compass and map as well as drills and formations these skills he felt he had an easy time to do because he was from a semi-military family although he rarely proved any commanding skill and felt satisfied with just following the orders but then again his training did never consist of leadership but of being the soldier, and with the amount of people that received training at the same time it would often seem hard for all the NCO's and Officers to keep track of everyones performance, at least that was the way William felt.
Writing Sample: The unit stood in two lines looking over the firing range, it was a lovely summer day a bit warm but all the men seemed happy enough from Williams point of view, the officers stood behind the unit to see their potential as the Sergeant paced a bit around in front of them while looking over the men who stood in two lines. After what seemed like a while the sergeant finally spoke "Men! Listen up, today we will conduct a firing exercise and bayonet charge! Because we all know the Jerry's hate cold steel!" the sergeant said with a smirk. Finally, William thought to himself, something he was good at.
He looked as the first few men was taken up to the firing line and did their best before charging the "soldiers" made of hay hanging on some kind of wooden pillar they were taken up in groups of ten and given 5 shots to shoot and hit their target before charging. Then came Sinclair's name and he quickly responded and walked up to the firing line with the 9 other men. He knelt on his given position and loaded in the 5 bullets he was given and waited for the orders. At the order of ready he loaded the first bullet then came the order of commence fire.
William took careful aim at his target taking a few deep breaths before carefully squeezing the trigger hitting the target repeating the same cycle four times more each time hitting with some precision. He hoped that he made his sergeant proud hitting the target with all five shots. Then came the second part the bayonet charge. They equipped the bayonets at the order and made ready this time they were charging three at the time at the hay "soldiers". William took a deep breath and made ready and then the command was given for charge and like the rest he yelled at the ability of his lungs before charging and making a stab and twist in the stomach of the dummy before pulling out the bayonet and stabbing again this time pushing upwards like they had been instructed so many times before.
Then rest of afternoon went with waiting for the rest of the unit and hearing of the overall performance of the soldiers and to their luck they beat two section their eternal competitors and that meant they got rest of the evening off and this as always meant a trip to the local bar to celebrate and talk as they had done before the camaraderie was a thing William enjoyed.
Additional: Username Sinclair, and yes I do know that as a Private I can't command any troops but I want to try and manually raise in the ranks.
