The ability of an armoured vehicle to inspire comfort and confidence in a soldier with its mere presence cannot be over-stated. And the opposite effect on an enemy equally so. That was the whole purpose behind Unteroffizier Alkema toting around the beloved armoured car, Wiesel. It, like Alkema, had been in some tough scraps from Poland to France, and had bailed him out of a number of bad situations.
That's not to say it was invincible, Wiesel had not escaped those battles without its own scars. It was now crewed by its second commander, and third gunner; on its fifth set of tires; and had recently required a hull patch along with a new headlight after an encounter with a Soviet ATR ambush. Through it all though, it had remained a quasi-mascot for Alkema's gang.
Alkema's crew was trudging down the road to Leningrad, a vanguard force tasked to scout the road ahead, locate any forward Soviet positions, and destroyed them if possible.

As the German soldiers approached the outskirts of the town, Alkema raised his fist calling the group to a halt, and then motioned for Okras, the other fire team leader, and Brauss, Wiesel's commander, to join him.
"This is our jump-off point. From here on consider yourselves in enemy territory. A scouting party reported coming under fire in this town yesterday. We are going to find that position and destroy it. The fire teams will alternate moving forward under the cover of the other, and Wiesel will lag behind until we.make contact and establish the location of the enemy. We will jump road to road, eastward across town and then turn south, spiraling inward until we find them. Clar?"
"Jawohl."
"Gut. Los." The leaders broke off and returned to their men, relaying the sergeant's orders to their men.
Heiko gathered the attention of his rifle team to check their gear and their sqaudmates gear. Satisfied that everyone was adequately prepared he ordered weapons loaded and safeties off. Then unslung his own weapon, the ever handy 98k Mauser, and loaded in a fresh clip and flicked off the safety.
With another gesture, the German troop began moving again.
