I was wondering, does anyone play any decent online WWII games? I've been messing around with some random games lately (mainly on the PC) and was wondering if anyone else either has these games or has any other games worth suggesting a play?
I've been playing Iron Front: 1944 Liberation online quite a bit lately and noticed it doesn't really have a lot of players online, considering it's quite an epic and awesome WWII game to play to be fair.
Not sure if anyone has played ARMA II, but it runs off the same brilliant graphics engine and the graphics in this game are flawless really. Anyone else got the game and fancy a match?
Also, how about Company of Heroes? That's another epic strategy based WWII game, it's quite popular so I'd be shocked to see if people don't have that game on here.
Oh another game I was thinking of playing was Red Orchestra 2, but I'm still not sure, it looks too much like Call of Duty and I'm fed up of the typical first person shooter games. Any opinions on that game? If anyone's played it or has it?
Anyway, random thread I know, but wondered if you guys have any of those games or any other worth while WWII games I should give a shot. ~Danny

I have Company of Heroes, Men of War/MoW: Assault Squad, Red Orchestra: Ostfront, Battlefield 1942/2/2142, R.U.S.E., Operation Flashpoint: DR, The Brothers in Arms series, and Hearts of Iron: Darkest Hour.
I'll set Company of Heroes to install right now though. c;
EDIT: Red Orchestra is nothing like Call of Duty. It's about as realistic as a shooter can get before it makes you memorize twenty commands on your keyboard (*cough* Arma *cough*). I would highly advise either the first (Ostfront) or Red Orchestra 2. They are both very good games, but the learning curve is steep.
I have the Battlefields... Somewhere... But yes, I have various PC games, not as many as my Xbox though, but been playing PC games quite a bit as of late and wondered if I was missing any other awesome WWII games I didn't really know about.
I was thinking of giving Red Orcastra a go, but from watching trailers and long-arse reviews, it looked just like CoD and decided to stray on the line of caution - I'm avoiding the typical FPS games at the moment, need a breath of fresh air from them.
You should definitely install COH by the way, yes, that's an awesome plan! :] I have all three COH packs, so there's no shortage of ownage, muhahaha! Not sure if the free online one is still going, but I uninstalled that a long time ago. There's a new COH coming out early next year too, following the eastern front. Good ol' commies will be coming into COH by the looks of it.
Also, another random question, does anyone have Minecraft on the PC? I haven't, but I guess if there's a few of us on here that has it, I'd be tempted to buy it and give you guys a random game on it. Build some wacky stuff and make some funny videos for I.O, per say.
Anyway, as you can see, I'm sort off trying to form an I.O gaming community at the moment. Think we all deserve our fair share of break from the block writing we do here. ~Danny

I don't really do online games, so my recommendations are mostly offline, starting with Silent Storm. If IO were a videogame it would be Silent Storm. It's turn-based squad tactics based in WW2. It's gets a little alternate history near the end with robots and laser, but the majority is pretty solid, realistic stuff. Has separate campaigns for the Allies and for the Axis.
Then Hearts of Iron 2, which is a grand strategy game. You take control of any nation that existed between 1936 and 1945 and manage their military, politics, and economy. My personal favourite achievement was taking Italy from ailing secondary power and turning it into an economic powerhouse that became the first nuclear power and conquered Africa, the Middle East, half of India, Australia & New Zealand, and began an invasion of Canada by dropping the first atomic bombs on Toranto and Ottawa. Then my game crashed. But overall, very fun game. This one can be played online, but I've never tried it.

Love Hearts of Iron; one of my favorites. The online is pretty god-awful though; impossible to connect to anyone, as it uses ports and direct connection.
If I have the time, I'll try and get a game in with you tomorrow morning, PuNk!. My screen name is IRC, so if you want to add me to friends for easy allocation, go right ahead.
I was looking at Hearts of Iron on STEAM, it looked good, but I couldn't help but feel it looked like a lower budget production of Empire Total War.
If you give it a thumbs I'll see about giving it a go!
Also Tristan, am I adding you on COH? Can't remember my own username, lol, I best try logging in and finding out.
I'm also sorely tempted to buy Minecraft. Anyone seen or watch the Yogscast on YouTube? Yeah I'm showing my nerdy side now. If Anyone has Minecraft I'll be willing to grab a copy and give you guys a game on that too. I have images of us creating an I.O headquarters and talking absolute rubbish around this big table; I would so record some episodes. ~Danny

Ahoy hoy! I would be willing to engage in video games with you! In terms of WW2 I have CoD2, BF1942 and I do have CoH, although I never really got into it. I have Minecraft too, I'd love to play with some of you sometime. Here's my Steam Profile, befriend me! steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198025989556

Personally, I would get Darkest Hour on STEAM; an updated and more refined version of Hearts of Iron. It's like Empire with a much steeper learning curve on it, and a lot more technical intelligence required. It's a country simulator/wargame, rather than a battlefield strategy game. Worth the twenty bucks I'd think.
And I too have minecraft. Be more than happy to join you in some fun on there.
EDIT: Does anyone have Borderlands on PC? I'd love to give that a go with a competent team for once.

I'd say before you buy Hearts of Iron (Or any other Paradox game, really), you should check out demo's. I play some Europa Universalis, which is supposed to be one of their easier games to get into, but it is still quite complicated for a new player.
Tristan, I picked up Borderlands in the Steam sales, but I haven't actually got around to playing it yet, Single player or co-op.

The demos, particularly the one for Hearts of Iron 2, are very limited and not representative of the full game. Just my two cents.
I'm still a noob at the game, so I'm not sure if you can even add friends on Minecraft or not, but yeah, that's me! Also, I'm willing to give all a game on CoH, I just need to install it all again at some stage, I have CoH, Opposing Forces Expansion and Tales of Valor Expansion.
Plenty of poonage to be had.
