What Army will Your Character Serve Beneath?: Axis – Waffen SS.
Character History:
- Jace’s date of birth is unknown, his mother was from Krakow and he grew up in the Polish city with her. He never knew his father but had many step fathers over the years, most of them where abusive physically and few sexually. He spent the least amount of time at home as possible, and one day he returned to find his mother missing. Years later he joined the Ustashi.
The Ustashi was a fascist terrorist organization that came to power in Croatia in 1941 under the command of Ante Pavelic. Eventually the country came under the rule of Germany and with the Nazi’s the Ustashi made history. The Ustashi alone massacred over half a million people, and Jace was in the thick of it. At one point he was guarding an Ustashi run concentration camp and would randomly beat prisoners to death. He specialised in the killing and torture of Jewish and Serbian children, something about it gave him a rush that he became addicted too. He would often break their legs and watch them crawl around before finally killing them. Some of his victims where raped before he cut their throat. Some of the murders Jace and his Ustashi brothers committed even shocked and disgusted the Nazi’s, who actually tried to police the killings with little success.
He came to enjoy the slaughter of Serbs and Jews. But unlike the Nazi’s who shot or gassed their victims, Jace and the Ustashi cut throats, gouged out eyes and smashed heads with hammers, they used forks and knifes to blind their victims and saws and axes to behead them. He rose in the ranks of the Ustashi but longed to be a part of something more. When an opportunity to join the Waffen-SS arose, he leapt on it with great enthusiasm. Jace’s commanders where shocked by how eagerly he was ready to kill. When prisoners where taken he would often have to be separated from the unit in order to stop him torturing them by cutting off their ears and gouging out their eyes and whenever the opportunity to execute prisoners arises Jace is always the first one to put his hand up to do it, even though he is mostly disappointed that the executions take the form of a firing line.
It didn’t take long for his commanders to decided to let Jace’s blood thirst work for them, and he was moved into a Sturmmann unit. He flourished in as a Storm trooper, weather infiltrating enemy strongholds or assaulting them; he performed his duties with the bloodlust that was by now second nature to him. Even Darth Vader was impressed.
Military Rank:

Scenario: Your character is on the frontlines during a massive attack by the enemy. His leader takes a bullet to the chest leaving your character in charge... (What does he do? What is running through his mind?) Must be at least 15 lines of text.
An explosion rocks the ground and chunks of earth rain down into the foxholes filled with men. As the artillery continues to rain down a single voice is heard between the explosions, telling the men to get ready for another charge. Jace’s mouth twisted into a grin. He was beginning to enjoy the mad dashes from foxhole to foxhole while the enemy shells fell from the sky. It was a highly risky tactic, to charge through a hail of artillery, but so far there had been only minor casualties and the element of surprise on the soldiers manning the guns would be worth the loss. People where moving, Jace hadn’t even heard the command to advance. He looked around quickly and saw that everyone was getting up and sprinting forwards. Jace didn’t waist time. He got to his feet and jumped out of the hole. A large shell landed off to his right and the screams of men filled the air. He ignored them and ran, dodging through the trees. The next foxhole was only 12 meters away but at the moment it seemed like 12 kilometres. Dirt and woodchips rained down upon him as his legs propelled him towards the safety of the hole. There where already people huddling down as deep as they could get.
Jace dropped down on top of them and went foetal, his Gewehr 43k bounced about on its strap. They where closing the gap to the line with every wild charge, but the constant stopping was beginning to annoy him. He didn’t think the rain would have lasted this long. The info they had been given said that the small artillery base was low on everything from ammo to troops. Of course, it wasn’t the first time someone had sent Jace and the other Sturmmann into a fight they weren’t fully equipped or prepared for. That was just how they did things.
The commander’s voice bellowed out again, straining to be heard over the roar of the barrage. The others in the hole started to move and get themselves ready for the next charge. Jace pulled his Gewehr into a more comfortable position. He couldn’t carry it in his hands at the moment; he felt he could move faster with it behind him rather then in front of him.
As the commander shouted out the order to advance, Jace once again got to his feet. He was sprinting as fast as he could go, head down, and legs pumping. Nothing else mattered at the moment; his heart was beating louder then the shells that fell around him. He fell into the next foxhole without even realising it was there. He slammed into the holes wall and knocked the wind out of himself. He lay still, struggling to get his breath back when someone else jumped into the hole with him. Jace rolled over and looked into the eyes of his commander. He simply nodded and patted Jace on the knee before looking at his watch. Jace forced air into his lungs, knowing he would need to be running again soon. The commander shouted out the order to charge and sprang to his feet. Jace was about to follow him when a shell landed right in front of them and the commander fell back into the hole clutching his chest. Men where running past them as they continued the advance. Jace pulled open the commanders shirt and found that rocks and shrapnel had peppered his body and he was loosing blood too quickly for a medic to come save him. Without a second thought Jace reached down and pulled the watch off his wrist and buckled it to his own.
The shells had stopped falling and Jace poked his head up to have a look at what was happening. He could see the artillery base through the trees, and charging from it was a line of Allied soldiers. Jace shouted out to give covering fire before pulling his Gewehr from his back and jumping too his feet before leaping out of the foxhole. He charged towards the front line, taking cover behind a tree whenever he could in order to fire at the oncoming wave of enemy troops. There weren’t enough of his men left to hold the line so he shouted out just as the commander had done before. Ordering bayonets to be fixed and to meet the enemies charge head on with one of their own. Just like the warriors of old the two sides clashed and a bloody battle began.
