Character History:
One August 21st in the year of 1919, Mark Singleton was born two the parents of Maddy Gouer and George Singleton. This was the second, and last, son born to both of the parents. Although Maddy and George had one more child, two years later in 1921, that would be Mark’s younger sister. She would be named Kristina Singleton, one of the most important people in Mark’s life.
The Singleton family was a middle class family that had the money to send their children to school. Mark loved school, and so did his siblings. They loved to learn about how America won their independence in the late 1700’s, or how the Egyptians have huge triangles called pyramids where they bury the dead. All of this was so fascinating and caused many childhood games in the yard or streets. Sometimes they’d come home to play a game of baseball, or they would change it up and reenact a book or poem they read in school. All of which developed the young Singleton family into rich and smart young ones.
Later on in Mark’s life, the Singleton family began to become wealthier then others in the area. This was due to his father moving up in the world and becoming the local mayor. Mark was still a young teenager and was still in school so his father began to put away money for both him and his brother for a college education, something his parents had always wanted for them but was afraid they’d never have the money for it.
Soon enough Mark and his brother Christopher aged and both moved on in life. Chris was old enough for college, being three years older then Mark he graduated high school earlier and moved onto Harvard to become a lawyer. Mark continued his high school education, and soon enough the war in Europe began.
After America was attacked in Pearl Harbor, Mark’s brother Chris was drafted into the war on the Pacific front. Being fresh out of college, Christopher became a Junior CO and led a Company after his CO was shot. After a couple months in the Pacific, Chris was killed in Combat and left Mark to be the only son left in the family.
One month later, after his high school graduation, Mark Singleton enlisted into the United States Army against his fathers will. Soon enough Mark’s heart and soul would prove to be one of a true warrior, a United States soldier serving the world.
Military Rank:
Highest NCO rank possible. I know Rules are rules, but I’d honestly like Tech SGT. Or Staff SGT.
Sergeant will be fine though.

Ardennes Forest, Outside of Bastogne
0930 Hours
It was cold, very cold. The trees covered the sky enough to play mind games with anyone underneath them. It was almost as if the Germans had pinned the Americans in this forest to make them feel trapped, underneath a green and prickly blanket that was not as forgiving as the blanket your mother tuck you in with at night. If you were to look around, underneath this blanket, you’d see another white blanket dotted with United States soldiers, awaiting combat.
Mark had finally set up a fire in his foxhole that was dug approximately three feet deep. The fire sat in the middle of it, with five soldiers huddled around it seeking warmth and waiting the food that cooked over it. Before the fire had been lit, Mark took the Rations of all five soldiers and mixed them into some water and “Seasoning” Received from Bastogne on the last Munitions run. Mixing the “Seasoning” into the water, Mark began to boil it around everyone, creating an amazing aroma for everyone to smell.
From the other side of the fire, a voice finally spoke up ”Hey uh, Sarge. What are you exactly doing with the water and our rations?” This was the voice of Corporal Timmy Good. Timmy was honestly a great kid that didn’t deserve to be in the war. Drafted at the age of nineteen and left a small family behind along with a younger brother of thirteen years old. The kid didn’t deserve to be in this war.
Mark stirred the water and Seasoning mixture once more and then set his eating spoon onto his blanket next to him. He then looked at Timmy and answered his question ”Well Tim, I got this seasoning from the Munitions pick up in Bastonge yesterday. Figured I’d mixed our stuff together and make some hot soup, something to warm us the fuck up.” The others around the fire began to nod and smile a bit with the thought of having a nice hot meal in they’re stomach.
Soon enough the water began to boil and Mark gathered the rations and dumped them into the boiling hot seasoned water. It made a nice hissing noise until everything hit the bottom of the pot and silenced the hissing and boiling water. The silence was easily broken by another soldier willing to speak up about Mark’s cooking ”Looks like my mom’s leftover soup. That used to taste like shit.” This was the voice of Private First class Jimmy Hopkins. This kid was a wise ass that made everyone else chuckle every now and then. He had a pretty built stature and was quite tall, unlike the others.
Though it seemed no one would answer to that comment, everyone began to talk a bit but one voice stood out louder then the others. This was “mouth”. It was a bit obvious how he got his name, the kid did nothing but talk loud. ”Yeah well if you look anything like your mother, then I feel bad for her.” Mark laughed under his breath along with everyone else until Jimmy answered his remark with a question ”Yeah Why’s that Mouth?” Everyone in the hole looked toward him to hear what he would say and he came out with a funny little remark ”Because you look like the way your mother’s soup tastes.” The whole Squad laughed at that softly as Jimmy shut up and looked at the soup, noticing it was done.
Mark took everyone’s eating cups and began to fill them by dipping the cup into the soup and scooping out some of it into the cup and then handing it to it’s owner so that they could eat. Mark only had the chance to hand off the first cup of soup before a whistling in the air interrupted him and then followed an explosion. The shell hit near the front lines but sent dirt flying everywhere in the forest. A few pieces landed into the soup and caused Mark to exclaim out loud ”Fuck! My soup!”
