Character History:
Early in the 1900’s met a couple in a lone bar in the small town of Athenry. Most would say a couple in a smoky bar had no chance of surviving in a marriage or have kids. Although Micheal Fitzpatrick and Jude Vorris stayed together, even late after meeting in that lone Irish bar.
Micheal and Jude soon began to see each other a lot more, almost daily as the new century really kicked off. It was odd, very odd; to see the two together all of the time as their families sincerely hated each other. Almost like a Romeo and Juliet, the well known romance from Shakespeare. The young couple didn’t care, which was against Irish customs as the families normally had to approve of the marriage. Therefore the two continued to see each other instead of listening to their elders and splitting up.
Before long the couple began to think of ways to escape the hatred, or just run away so that they could get married. Both families rang over them heavily and forced them to split, almost ruining every chance they had to get married and be happy together.
This all changed two months later when Jude finally found out that she was pregnant, with Micheal’s child. Jude tried to hide it from her family, but with an awkwardly growing stomach it was hard to do. Her mother was the first to see it, and when Jude told her mother about Micheal she went off. It wasn’t too long before her father heard, and he too was on the upset side with her. With that Jude was forced to live on her own, but Micheal too found out about the pregnancy. Without warning he left his household and took Jude to his home, showing his parents of the pregnancy. They too were very upset with the young couple, but did not kick out Micheal as pregnancy was no matter to joke around about.
Although they took Micheal in, the parents were still very harsh about not liking the Vorris’s, thus causing much hatred between the Fitzpatrick parents and Jude. It was all too much stress for the young pregnant lass to handle as she told Micheal. The young couple had no choice; they must leave their families behind and move onto another place were their child would grow up happy and away from such madness.
With that Micheal took all the funds he had and gathered them together. It was certainly enough to buy a ticket to the new land, America. Jude was disapproving, as the journey could go wrong and she was around 5 months pregnant now. It would be hard on her, but Micheal knew it was the only way to two could stay together to have their baby. So with that Jude agreed to go to America, get married, and have their baby in a free world were no one would force the child into a hatred filled relationship like his parents.
Micheal and Jude finally ran away and got onto the cheapest boat they could find. Unfortunately that was a boat that was carrying goods to America from an Irish fishing port. The young couple didn’t object to crossing the Ocean with this boat, therefore they took it and paid the captain a small fair to get across. Before too long they made it to Ellis Island where they went through the grueling hassle of becoming an American citizen. Although Jude was exempt from most tests as she was a woman carrying a baby into the country that would be born American.
Soon enough they passed through the Immigrant funnel and into America as new citizens. Micheal found himself a job as Jude settled down into the rural party of New York as a housewife. Micheal took up a job as a farm assistant and soon enough made new friends around the small rural town. This helped him get into the church without being discriminated against as most Irish Immigrants did.
Before long Jude and Micheal met with the local Catholic Priest to talk about a marriage before the new baby was born. It would be a small marriage, but the Priest took up the offer with no protest as he wouldn’t let a baby come into the world with parents with separate names. Before too long the couple was married in the rural town of Cobleskill as the Fitzpatricks.
After a month into the marriage, their baby finally was born into the world as a male under the name of Murphy. He would have no idea about what happened in Ireland, but would know and love his life in America as he was now the son of a fairly wealthy farming family.
After his birth, Murphy was known by everyone in the town and most came over to see him. Jude and Micheal were happy as they could live with their new baby with out two families fighting over their marriage.
After a few years Murphy was finally into school, but instead of going to your regular school house Murphy instead went to the local military school named LaSalle. Known for its great teachings and good hockey team, LaSalle was a great fit for this young Irish lad.
Murphy was a great student too as he progressed through his first five years of school easily. Most kids by now absolutely hated school and just wanted to push through to become a farmer or business man in the family business. Not Murphy though as he had dreams of going to West Point and then joining the military as a commissioned officer. Seamed odd for a young boy to have already decided what he wanted to do exactly, but that was Murphy’s dream.
Middle school was a joke for Murphy as he pushed through easily and became one of the smartest kids in his class. He soon had the opportunity to join the LaSalle hockey team, and took such opportunity. Murphy soon fell in love with the sport of Hockey as he stood out as a star on the ice and in the classroom. This made his parents more then happy with him as Murphy would soon turn into a successful person, unlike most other kids who just got pushed out of school and into the real world.
Murphy enjoyed hockey so much that his parents helped him build a small little slab of ice in his backyard once he turned thirteen. This soon became a winter tradition for the family as they would lay out plastic sheets and cover them with water until it froze over. Murphy was more then happy to go out there and skate everyday or take shots on a garbage can to get better with his hockey skills.
By the age of Sixteen Murphy began to be known around the state of New York for being so good at the sport that he loved. Not only did he begin to receive college offers from many schools, Murphy also was being looked at by a few scouts in Canada to come up and play for them. Unfortunately for these hockey teams, Murphy didn’t care much for going big time in the sport as he already had plans to become commissioned out of West Point and join the military.
High school neared the end for Murphy as students began to plan for the future. Most students at LaSalle were just there because they were rich and had no plans for their future. This was the exact opposite for Murphy, his parents did have money, but Murphy had plans of his own to go to west Point after high school.
After his senior year, Murphy was recognized as Val Victorian or first in his class. This meant that coming out of his class; Murphy was the smartest and had the highest GPA (Grade Point Average) in his class. With that Murphy applied to West Point to major in ROTC. It was an easy choice for him, and an even easier choice for the school to accept his application to the school.
Murphy went through the school with ease as he did in High School, and before too long Murphy was one of the highest ranked in his class. This came with a price though as the War in Europe began to erupt and most countries began to get involved. Soon enough Murphy ended his last year in West Point and graduated as an Officer in the United States Army. He was stationed in Carolina as an Officer to a Company full of new recruits.
Soon the year of 1941 neared the end and 1942 was in the sights of everyone as the War in Europe expanded across the world and into three different continents. America still had no part in the war and as Murphy woke up on December 7th 1941 he received word on an attack on America. Still unsure of what had happened, Murphy just went on with his everyday life as an Officer.
It wasn’t until the day after that America decided to join the war that the whole base was sent into and uproar. Murphy’s Division was only a training division, but America now needed forces. Not sure of what would happen, Murphy took up the offer to become Airborne and earn more money for his family.
Now unable to join the fight yet, Murphy Fitzpatrick stayed back in Carolina to become apart of the Airborne and join the fight with them. It took him a few months to reach such state, but Murphy soon become apart of the airborne forces and was making more money for his family and still following his dream of becoming an Officer out of West Point.
Before long Murphy was assigned to the 17th Airborne Division where he would stay through out the rest of the war. Murphy really had no idea of what to expect in the upcoming years, but he was like every other recruit that wanted to fight for America. Murphy was soon dispatched to the war with his Division and would join the fight as apart of the Airborne in the 17th Division. With that it was time for heroes, time to show what he was fighting for and to help save the world as he knew it.

Briefing had gone well, and so had the morning coffee that was offered to Murphy and his company. So far the only ones to know anything about what was going on that day was the Officers, and even they knew very little to what was going to actually happen.
The plan was for the whole Division to attack a large city in France, and take all of the key points. The companies would split up into different areas, and attack the city from there. Fitzpatrick’s Company was to take a key bridge, cross that bridge and then secure it with the small squad of engineers he was given. The were ready to rig it with barbed wire and everything else that was needed to keep the Krauts from crossing it back into the city anytime soon.
The city was pretty far away from the 17th’s current location, and this is why they were given a few vehicles to load up into and carry away to their destination. Therefore once the time came, the Division wouldn’t be stranded out on a road, walking to the city. This wouldn’t be a good effect on the men as not only would they all be fatigued, but it was fairly possible that an easy Ambush could happen with them marching down a lone road.
Before too long, the division was active and ready to go. Murphy made sure his men were in their correct places, and the convoy of men was ready to go. This took about a half hour and after was reported to the CO.
Finally, Murphy was able to load up into his own vehicle, a Willy’s Jeep, and take off for the objective. The whole convoy of Jeeps and halftracks finally started up, and the mellow hum of the engines soothed the Americans into a false Reality of peace. As Murphy looked around, at the three other seats and the Gunner in the back, he spoke up ”Nice weather for an attack on a city, eh?” His voice rang out to them all like the bells of St. Mary’s church. To be honest, it didn’t seem like any of the men were really listening and Murphy didn’t get an answer from any of them.
With a slight breath out, Murphy decided to look off the side of the jeep as they bellowed down the road. The trees and fields quickly passed, creating a strong image of colors colliding like a surreal painting of sorts. Who knew there was actually a war going on in this beautiful country of France?
Soon enough the convoy reached the outskirts of the city, and next would be the bridges. With a swift crank of the wheel, the driver of Murphy’s jeep pulled over and everyone quickly unloaded as the whole Division now activated and began to move to their positions. Lucky for H Company, they were set to make a Field HQ somewhere in the City, and they moved off into a local Café that was big enough to house the Division COs and all of there planning stuff.
Murphy watched as his Companies trucks pulled up and braked in front of his position. Soon enough First Platoon filed out of the convoy truck and their leader came up. ”Why Hello sir. Long time no see.” First Sergeant Horowitz said the Murphy. With a swift nod Murphy moved off to second platoon to check them and then did the same for third.
Before too long he was once again barking out orders. ”Okay, as you all heard in briefing we are to take this city. Up ahead lies our bridge, a fairly small one, with what is expected to be high resistance on it. After all there is only three bridges into town, and ours is the luckiest on of them all.” Murphy cleared his throat and looked at first platoon. First and Second platoon are on the main attack across the bridge.”[/b] Murphy’s eyes glanced over both First and second platoon as he looked over to third now. Third you will be offering fire support on the sides of the bridge, don’t let your brothers down.” With that Murphy motioned for the company to head off towards the bridge and they all began to pace towards the bridge.
The whole company was broken down into three platoons, with third being the support platoon. Today they would set up MG nests on both sides of the bridge and offer suppressive fire as first and second crossed the bridge. It was a plan that Murphy drew up at briefing, but it didn’t exactly seem perfect. There was no armor in the area, and if the Germans were able to pull some out of no where, the boys in the 17th could very well be fucked.
Before long the company could see the bridge in view. With a motion of his hand, Murphy stopped the whole company and turned to everyone. ”All right, you know the plan. Now lets stick to it.” With that, first and second led up the street and took cover as Third ran up to set up on the sides of the bridge. By now there had been no firing at all, and Murphy was sure the plan was flawless.
Suddenly, as Third platoon began to cross the street and into position, some bullets shot out at them from across the river. A couple of them had hit a few of Third platoon, but the still continued towards the bridge. Only seconds later did two MG42s fire at them, and causes screams from the young Americans. ”Fuck, First and Second offer suppressive fire on the building!” The building housing the Machine Guns was the Café that was to be taken by Murphy and his company of men. It was a strategic point to hold the bridge, as it offered a perfect choke point for anyone that wanted to cross it.
The screams of Third platoon continued as Murphy ran up the street and took cover behind a car in the road. Looking around for his Bazooka, Murphy began to cry out also ”Private MCaferrey! Get you bazooka onto that Café!” With that Fitzpatrick noticed a lone private turning out of an alleyway and firing his bazooka across the river and scoring a direct hit between the second and first floor. The building began to crumble, and the Bazooka had caused part of the wall to fall down and silenced the MG42s long enough to get the Support platoon into place. Murphy looked up and noticed Third setting up their own Machine guns and took the opportunity to lead First platoon further up the street.
Murphy weaved around the car he was in cover behind and then moved 25 yards towards the bridge before hearing a lone bullet wiz past his head. With that Murphy dove into the alleyway he was next to and watched as the rest of First platoon spread out and took cover. ”Sniper!” He yelled out as the MG42s began to kick up once again, but as soon as they did the .30 Cal Machine Guns began to also kick up. This firefight between them offered enough time for Murphy to take lead of the squad of Americans that were in the Alley with him. ”Come on lets go.” He said as the Squad followed him down the Alley and onto another street that led to the river.
Murphy and the squad pushed down to the end of the street and all pressed their backs up against the house at the end of it and next to the river. Looking around the corner he could see the Machine gun nest In the Café and decided to turn back around to look at the squad. ”The MG nest is right up there, and we have perfect aim on them. Private George and Henry take cover behind that wall while me and Miles take fire on the MGs. Once you are there get grenades across the river and into that MG nest.” With that the two privates began to take off for the wall as Murphy and Miles fired at the Mache Gunner in the Café with their M1 Carbines.
It wasn’t too long before both privates next to the wall stood up quickly and launched two grenades at the Café. Fitzpatrick watched as the flew over the river and landed right beneath the Machine Gunners feet. The poor German panicked and tried to kick the grenade away from him, but was too late as it blew up and took his body for a ride, all over the Café’s walls.
Murphy had no time to watch the red mist fly as he led the Squad to the bridge now and watched as Second Platoon readied to cross the bridge. Murphy looked around for his engineers, which ended up being behind him, and checked with them ”You guys ready to go?” The Engineers nodded and moved onto the bridge and began to look around a bit to make sure it was stable and all. Almost as soon as they had made it on to the bridge, one of the engineers had a face of panic and Horror as he charged back across the bridge and so did the rest of them.
He made his way over to Fitzpatrick and looked at him before speaking. ”sir… The bridge is wired!” Murphy’s eyes widened as he looked at him and began to bark out orders once again ”All right well get one of your men onto the bridge and disarm it before the Germans can blow it up. We need that bridge!” With that, the Engineer went back onto the bridge, by himself, and began to look around for where to cut the wire.
Taking his time to find out where to cut the wire turned out bad as Murphy soon looked up and saw a Lone German charging towards the Café and picking up what looked like a detonator. The American Machine Guns began to blaze out bullets again, but it was too late as a solid blast sent the lone Engineer flying into the air and so did the bridge as Murphy and his men took cover form the blast. Now it looked as if the day was lost, and so was yet another bridge into town.
