The roar of engines filled the air as a squadren of Folgores streaked low through the sky, their. Beautiful streamlined hulls reflected magesty of the Italain Air Force, and Salvatore knew that each aircraft carried a dangerous armament. What he didn't know was that the Folgores were intended for anti-fighter and bomber combat, and all they could offer for ground support was a quick ground strafing of rounds. The top brass wanted as much of the town kept intact as passable, and bullet holes were easier to repair then bomb craters. However even if he had known that they wouldn't drop bombs on the target town it still made him feel better knowing that they owned the sky's and wouldn't get a bomb dropped on him and his unit.
Looking around Salvatore could see that this was a major opperation, the whole 185. Division was assembled, along with a German Division that would flank around and assault the sides of the town. The higher up's knew that the Germans would have a relatively easy job and the Italains would take the full force of the towns defense by charging straight in, but those who would be doing the charging believed they would meet minimal resistance. After all with all the air strikes on the town how many enemy soldiers could be left?
A mass of movement caught his attention as the Germans began to move out. Falling back out of sight of the town so they could circle around for a surprise attack. Salvatore looked back at the town as several fighters swooped down over it again, the sound of their guns buffered by the distance. There was a surprisingly small amount of anti-air fire coming out of the town, maybe most of it had already been taken out.
Orders began to get shouted for everyone to form up and get ready for the push into the town and Salvatore found himself suddenly surrounded by other troops, it would still take a while for the Germans to get into place and radio the command to begin.
