OOC: For anyone that doesn't already know, Jackson and I are friends, roommates actually, but before you think we are getting together on this you are wrong. Also this is going to look somewhat insane for the lowest ring on the radioman ladder, but I know what type of training/classes Jackson has had on the subject so I know what he is capable of. It will be a harder test and I will grade him more strictly than most.
IC: Jackson, you will have 48 hours to complete this, it will be a list of questions, no maps, this is only the lowest of the three certs in this field. You must complete this with an 80% score or better, no exceptions. Good luck.
1 - How do you read a topographical map with grid lines? 2 - What is the definition of a contour line? 3 - What is "True North" measured by? 4 - What is the difference in the terms "Roger" and "Wilco"? 5 - What does the phrase "I read you four by three" mean? (be specific) 6 - What does the phrase "Fire for Effect" mean? 7 - How much area does one grid square represent? 8 - How close will a six digit coordinate get you to within your target? 9 - What is an Azmuth? 10 - What is the Back Azmuth of 136 Degrees?
-EDIT-
Please post as soon as you have read this so that I know when your time has started.
1 - How do you read a topographical map? right and up
2 - What is the definition of a contour line? a contour line is a line on a map that connects to other lines of equal elevation. Contour lines represent elevation of terrain relative to the horizon as seen from above.
3 - What is "True North" measured by? True North is measured by the star Polaris (North Star)
4 - What is the difference in the terms "Roger" and "Wilco"? The only difference in the terms is the lettering they both mean the same thing... I understand.
5 - What does the phrase "I read you four by three" mean? (be specific) I read you four by three means you have a signal strength of four and a clarity of three
6 - What does the phrase "Fire for Effect" mean? Fire for effect is the phrase used after spotting rounds are fired to zone in on a target... Firing for effect is to actually hit the target as opposed to trying to make it move from it's tactical position.
7 - How much area does one grid square represent? This actually depends on the scale of the map but on most maps one grid square represents 1000 meters
8 - How close will a six digit coordinate get you to within your target? 100 meters
9 - What is an Azimuth? Well the text book answer is 'a horizontal angle usually measured clockwise in degrees from a north base line', but in layman's terms it's an angle on a compass that you use to get to a certain point from where you are.
10 - What is the Back Azimuth of 136 Degrees? 316 degrees
