Standard: 70% to pass
Questions:
1. What is a mil? (Not to be confused with a millimeter) 2. What does rifling do? 3. Why is the answer to #2 a good thing? 4. Why is a “cold bore” shot the only recorded shot during sighting? 5. What is “Kentucky windage”? 6. What country is the man from that holds the record for the longest distance for a confirmed kill? This same country also holds the second place record for the exact same thing. 7. Why would a sniper keep a nail file? (No it isn’t the obvious answer) 8. YOUR CHOICE, describe three of the following and what it does/is used for: - bull barrel - crowned barrel - floated barrel - fluted barrel
Good luck, you have ten days to accomplish this to standard. As always, post once you have read this and if you have any questions, I will answer them if needed.

Here we are:
1. An angular unit used for small degrees of measurement. Such as those that give the range of an artilleryman's or sniper's gun over certain distances. The mil is exactly 1/6400 of a complete circle. If an object (angle of fire) has the angular height of 1 mil, then once reaching 1000 meters it is 1 meter high, upon reaching 2000 meters it is 2 meters high, etc. It is used for a mental calculation.
2. Rifling is the series of grooves along the barrel of the gun that form a helix pattern (spiral). It causes a bullet fired through the barrel to spin along it's longer axis as it leaves the barrel and continues through the air.
3. This causes the bullet to have a gyroscopic stabilization during flight, which gives an increased aerodynamic stabilization which results in higher accuracy.
4. A cold-bore shot is the first shot from a clean barrel. It is the only shot that is accurate when sighting is done as once a bullet is fired from a clean barrel, it will leave behind residue that interferes slightly with following shots, making the following shots unreliable for measurement when adjusting sights.
5. To correct for wind and gravity during shooting by aiming the weapon slightly off the target instead of adjusting the sights. This is a rough way of dealing with outside forces that could affect the projectile during flight.
6. The longest recorded range for a sniper kill is 2340 meters. This was achieved , in March 2002, by Master Corporal Rob Furlong, of Newfoundland, Canada (represent!). This beat the previous record of 2286 meters set by an American, Carlos Hathcock, in 1967.
7. When a nail file is put down the barrel of a gun, it can alter tracings on the bullet, making the bullet more difficult to fingerprint (track down the gun that fired it). Some people also believe that sharpening the tip of a bullet may make it fly straighter and faster.
8. 1) bull barrel- A gun barrel with a constant outer diameter along its length. This is usually thicker than standard gun barrels, which gives it higher accuracy because of its rigidity. It also provides better heat dissipation along with, when the metal expands from heat, less change in ballistics. 2) crowned barrel- The tapered edge of the barrel. It is the location that the gas behind the bullet separates from the bullet. If the crown is uneven, then the gas pushes the bullet off-course slightly. 3) floated barrel- When the barrel is isolated from anything that is forward of the chamber of the barrel. This is done so that, when the metal expands due to heat, it is not affected by warping caused by high points along the barrel channel. 4) fluted barrel- Having ridges, much like the rifling on the inside of the barrel repeated on the outside of the barrel for added stiffness and accuracy.

Well done just doesn't say it...not even close to covers how well you aced this test.
I am extremely impressed and way more then happy to award you this certification Corporal Owen Pearson.
Now I would love to bless a promotion for you.

Well, thanks. I am really ecstatic now. *squeals* I did my best on it. It was kind of fun. I think I'll do another one of these sometime.
