GERO FRITZ; SKILLED INFANTRYMAN CERTIFICATION[/B]

The following questions have been designed to test your knowledge of weaponry, actions upon the battlefield and leadership skills as a NCO/Infantryman at arms. You must answer them all fully and best you can, as this is the only part of the Certification and you must reach an overall high score to pass.

All that is left of his platoon is a few scattered men, trying to fend off the approaching enemy. You must reach POINT A to POINT B, using your wit and gathering what men you can to help fight. You are now in charge, pull them together!

You hear cries of pain suddenly emerge from a nearby building, but it sounds like the war has stopped - There’s no firing, clicking of boots or otherwise… Do you investigate?

• The following Mini Scenario is as follows;
  
  You hear firing up ahead and a young boy cowering in front of you tells you that their Lead Commander has fled! All that is left of his platoon is a few scattered men, trying to fend off the approaching enemy. You must reach POINT A to POINT B, using your wit and gathering what men you can to help fight. You are now in charge, pull them together!

  Upon hearing the young boy fill me in on the action up-front, I would’ve approached him quickly and pulled him to his feet. Observing from around the corner of the building and seeing a blockade of houses, which presumably weren’t occupied, with two men manning the first of the buildings and then hearing another soldier towards the north, I would’ve clarified with the young soldier to how many were left that he knew off - Acknowledging one of the soldiers was up top, I would’ve told the young soldier to go rally with him and tell him to meet me down south, towards the building with the two men.
  
  As the young boy would depart to rally up what was left of the troops up top (even if it were one), I would’ve hurried down towards the two soldiers, taking heed in firing a few extra covering shots as I moved cautiously, making the enemy think there might’ve been reinforcements approaching.
  
  Upon reaching the two soldiers, I would’ve alerted them to the message I rallied towards any soldiers up north to come down here and provide as much covering fire as they could. As the two soldiers pulled down towards my Position with the other two men, I would’ve tried to suppress the enemy with the two soldiers, before moving into the building towards my left, ordering them to keep a tactical spacing and move through each building quickly, taking as much precaution as possible, but keep moving as fast as possible.
  
  Upon reaching the last building and overlooking the enemy on what seems to be a ridge-line, their possible advancing location, I would’ve taken shelter against the window and upon the next man entering the room, messaged for him to call back to the other’s to take refuge in their building and fire! This way, we could now suppress the enemy from one of their flanks and hopefully cause them to disband into disarray, which could possibly buy us enough time to retreat or keep them held back until they thought up a new tactic to combat us - in which time, we could’ve gained reinforcements for the battle.
  
  
  
• What is a SdKfz 251 and what is it’s general purpose?
  
  - The Sonderkraftfahrzeug 251 was an Armoured fighting vehicle, basically a Halftrack.
  
  
  
• The Möbelwagen has a crew of how many?
  - 6 Crew
  
  
  
• You’re on a war-torn battlefield and you’ve been cut from your commanding platoon. You’re alone, well armed, but tired and aching from the moving throughout the battlefield. You hear cries of pain suddenly emerge from a nearby building, but it sounds like the war has stopped - There’s no firing, clicking of boots or otherwise… Do you investigate?
  
  
  - No, I wouldn’t investigate. Simply because of the simple fact, that I’m alone, tired from the fighting and I don’t have a clue whether we won or lost the battle. If I found a wounded comrade, I would not be able to carry him and his cries would’ve alerted any enemy soldiers to the location too.
  
  My prime concern would be to fallback to a safe distance and hopefully regroup with my lost division.
  
  
  
  
• You have no ammunition, but you still have your rifle - Suddenly, an enemy soldier is startled by you walking into their general direction and immediately drop their weapon, surrendering, in total fear you was about to shoot them. How do you handle the situation? You are alone…
  
  - Without ammunition and with an enemy soldier surrendering, I would cautiously keep my aim up with the rifle, hoping to continue the intimidation of me having a loaded weapon pointing right at their head. With my very little English or none at all, I would wave my rifle sideways, shouting for them to move away from their rifle and current position.
  
  As they moved away, doing as I told them, I would slowly move towards where the rifle laid on the ground and very carefully kneel down, keeping my rifle pointed at the soldier. Picking up his weapon, I would slowly stand with it hanging over my shoulder -- I wouldn’t make the exchange just yet, in fear his rifle was empty too, but the difference being, he knew it.
  
  Yelling at the soldier to get on his knees and cautiously approaching the man, to kick into the back of the legs in gesture for him to drop down, I would quickly and as heavily as I could, club the soldier across the back of the head. In hope this would either kill or render the man unconscious, or even wounding and dazing him enough that I had that crucial piece of time to check his rifle for ammunition.
  
  If his rifle had sufficient ammo, I’d spare a bullet for his death, otherwise, take another club or two towards the man’s head, hoping he’d die quickly. I’m in no position to take prisoners without any men or even a commanding Officer with me.

  Snow and freezing cold climates.

  - To an extent. I would be alerted that that the town or village was occupied by enemy soldiers, but I would not approach the building, due to the simple fact, the French are Allied orientated and their intelligence wouldn’t be trusted. So I’d be more alerted to the fact that an Ambush could be waiting for us… So I’d be extremely cautious, not to that of the building they pointed out, but the it’s surrounding buildings.

  Correct; However, instead of moving down one side of the small battlefield, you could've engaged the enemy from two fronts with a steady push and flank. None the less, good Tactics in using the buildings to completely outflank the enemy.

  Correct; Not investigating is the right answer, however, instead of falling back immediately, it could be wise to lay in wait and monitor any actions made - either by enemy units or friendly units?
  
  
  - No, I wouldn’t investigate. Simply because of the simple fact, that I’m alone, tired from the fighting and I don’t have a clue whether we won or lost the battle. If I found a wounded comrade, I would not be able to carry him and his cries would’ve alerted any enemy soldiers to the location too.
  
  My prime concern would be to fallback to a safe distance and hopefully regroup with my lost division.

  Correct; This is a tricky scenario, but keeping your weapon trained on the enemy is the best method to begin with. You could've threat the man into a flee, other than moving a little, but great answer to a tricky scenario.
  
  Using the enemy's weapon is also correct. It would most likely be loaded and not taking the man prisoner is also correct, as this would put you at risk greatly.

  Correct; Their advice would be untrusted and the intel they've given, could no doubt be a trap into the unknown.

I would be alerted that that the town or village was occupied by enemy soldiers, but I would not approach the building, due to the simple fact, the French are Allied orientated and their intelligence wouldn’t be trusted. So I’d be more alerted to the fact that an Ambush could be waiting for us… So I’d be extremely cautious, not to that of the building they pointed out, but the it’s surrounding buildings.
  
  

You have clearly shown a witted and tactical train of thought upon the spur of the moment as a Infantryman, you have also displayed leadership skills valiantly by bringing together men at arms to fight.
