Fresh snow covered the road as six soldiers marched along it. It would normally have been a fine Christmas day in what might have normally been a beautiful place, but they were fighting a war, and to make things worse it had begun to drizzle and the wind had begun to pick-up as well. Christmas should be better than than this! Griped a Private as he kicked up some snow in his path. "Didn't you tell us that a mile or so back? Retorted Michael, though thinking the same thing. Maybe I did. The private kicked-up more snow, then seemed to grow bored with that and began to look around at the scenery. They had come to a U in the road with houses on both sides. Surrounded by snow and a few patches of grass. "Alright gentlemen, silence, perfect place for krauts to hide. So be on your guard. Michael whispered to the group of soldiers, after making sure they all understood, he scanned the buildings. Johnson, you and your men take the left-side, we'll go right. He motioned for three Privates to follow him. Moving as silently as he could, Michael walked to the small building to his front and right. But now came another problem, how to get into the building. Or. Thought Michael. He nudged one of the Privates, and whispered. See if the building has any windows, then report back. And be careful. The soldier nodded and made his way half crouching, along the side of the house. Then disappearing out of view around the back of the house.
A few seconds later, he came hurrying back. "Window, didn't see anyone." Was his reply. Michael nodded and motioned for them to follow him. With his M1 Garand shouldered he lead them half crouching, to the rear of the building. When there he told them to stay low and wait for Johnson to check the next building before moveing-on. Michael glanced at Johnson and his soldiers, then turned his head back to look up and down the building he was crouched next to. As his gaze turned back to Johnson, he couldn't shake the feeling that someone was out there.
