A battle that I found amazing was the battle for Pegasus Bridge which occured the night before D-Day. A small amount of paratroops one glider full took the bridge and held it against numerouse german counter attacks until relived . They only suffered one casualty!
sorry David to make you mad but actually 6 gliders landed, it was D Company of the 6th Parachute Division. The units commander was Major John Howard (I got my name from him). They landed and took 2 bridges. Pegasus Bridge and a canal bridge. They had a dug out and held off one German attack and then the Royal Marine Commandos came. They were Scottish so they came playing there bagpipes
