It was a beautiful night. The sky was clear and the stars where twinkling high overhead. A full moon gave the snow-covered ground an almost eerie glow. Looking down from the hill the small village seemed picture perfect. There where about eighteen buildings, most of them houses. A small medical centre was right in the centre of the village, next to that a shop. A low wall surrounded the Village, two gaps in the wall served as gates. One on the north side, another on the east. At each of the Gates there were four soldiers stationed on guard duty. Two on each side of the road leading in. A tight patrol of soldiers marched around the low wall. Ensuring that an unnoticed entry would be next to impossible. Machinegun turrets had been set up in the windows of a few of the houses and three snipers sat ever watchful on the highest points of the village, on in a small water tower, another on the Shop and the third on a house. But this was to be expected when a General was in the area.
But of course, it could be done. Certain people could always sneak in, right under the guards nose, in some cases the guards would even open the gate for them. As long as the papers seemed genuine and a person was a smooth enough talker. Getting in was rarely a problem. Getting out is what served the difficult part. The guards at the north gate where suddenly jerked into action as a figure appeared on the hill, following the road right to the gate. Two of the snipers turned their crosshairs on the person, through their magnified scopes they could make out her long brown hair, her thick red lips and her piercing eyes. She held a long grey overcoat closed over her chest to ward off the cold.
As she neared the gate one of the soldiers took a step forward and held up his hand. "Halt" The woman came to a stop in front of him. "Was ist Ihre Geschäftskultur hier?" The woman reached into her overcoat, the three solders left at the gate raised their weapons, But they soon lowered them again as she only pulled out a folded piece of paper and handed it to the Guard. "Mein Name ist Alena Adael. Ich habe eine Nachricht für Commander Kasimir, ich habe eine sehr wichtige Botschaft für ihn von General Geert." The soldier looked over the Identification papers. After he was convinced they where indeed real he handed them back.
"Commander Kasimir wird nicht wieder hier für ein paar Tage. Sie übernachten im Dorf, wenn Sie wollen, bis er zurückkommt."
With a nod Alena accepted the Soldiers offer. Who turned to one of the solders and quietly spoke to him before turning back to her. "Gregor zeigt Ihnen, wo Sie übernachten, wenn Sie etwas brauchen Sie sehen, der Kapitän. Er ist normalerweise in der Kneipe." Alena gave the Soldier another nod before following a younger solder into the village. As they walked he pointed out a few of the buildings, the Medics centre, the shop, and the pub. Finally they got to her room. It was actually a small house. When they had been walking Alena had noticed that only a few of the houses seemed to be used. Maybe the Germans didn't have enough men to fill the whole village. That would make things a little easier. So far she had counted thirteen Soldiers. Including the three snipers she had seen on the roof when she did a recon of the village from a hill. Most likely a majority of soldiers would have left with the Commander.
Gregor seemed to be pulling out all the stings to impress Alena. He had offered to carry her small shoulder back for her, had opened the door, given her a small tour of the house, lent her his lighter when she pulled out a smoke, and before leaving told her if she needed anything to come ask. She doubted the young Soldier held enough rank to get her anything truly useful, but she smiled all the same and thanked him. When he was gone she removed the thick overcoat and hung it on the corner of the bed. It was a nice little place, the bedroom, kitchen, and living room where linked together, the only real wall in the house was that witch separated the bathroom and laundry.
Alena checked herself in the wall mirror. She was wearing a simply Grey Military jacket, a name badge sat over her left breast. The gold writing showing Alena Adael. What a silly name, almost as silly as the full grey Uniform she was wearing. Elizibeth Towers was her real name. She was not a German Secretary for General Geert as the Identification papers read. She was a Russian spy, and a good one at that. Her accent had been kept out of the conversation with the gate guard, and Russia’s top espionage personnel had done the forged papers. It was a very good forgery.
She finished her smoke and flicked the butt out the window before sitting down on the bed and opening her shoulder bag.
From the bag she pulled a fake message of highest priority with Commander Kasimir's name written all over it. It stated that he was to immediately go see the General about some very important assignments that he was to lead. 'Alena' would be his driver and escort to take him back. That’s what the Forged Orders stated anyway. As well as the Fake Orders and a few other fake pieces of ID she removed a simple knife. Her weapon of choice. She found firearms to be overrated. To her nothing was as beautiful as a stealthy kill with a nice sharp blade. Quick, silent, and deadly if done right. Of course when a knife just simply wont cut it, she has always had a soft spot for shotguns.
A sigh escaped her luscious red lips; all she had to do now was wait. To kill the boredom she decided to take a short walk around the village, get to know a few of the Soldiers and see if she could find out where the commander had gone. Knowledge is Power after all.
