John walked into his new barracks area. On one of his shoulders was his M1 Garand, and on the other was his duffel bag. John walked into the cramped area and headed to Room 104B. When he got to the door he knocked. He heard no reply so he went on in. John saw two of the 4 bunks with blankets and covers on them. John decided on taking one of the empty top bunks and limbed up and began making his bed. He was busy setting up his area and noticed a little area for him to put his personal belongings on that was above his bunk head area. In the little are John put a a picture of his family. Then he put up a picture of himself and his girlfriend before he shipped out. Her name was Nancy Hawthorne. She was in his High School Class. John then put up a bottle a Scotch that he was given to by his father. He was nearly all settled in when he looked across the area and noticed an area for him to put his clothes. He hung up all of his clothes. He looked at his empty dress uniform and sighed. He put it up with the rest of his clothes. He looked back at his M1 and decided to clean it on top of his bunk. He was an expert at cleaning his rifle and it took him about 15 minutes. THen he walked over to the room's only desk and sat down. At the desk he picked up a pen and pulled out a sheet of paper and decided to writed a letter to his family. It began:
Dear Family,
I am doing well here at the base. I got here today on a rainy day. Tonight I set up my bunk and cleaned my weapon. I have not seen any of my roommates yet, but I hope to soon. I have put up my pictures of the family and I'm about to head to the mess area for dinner. I hope to see my bunk mates there. I am not busy yet, but I will be in the near future. When ever I get a pass home I will either call you or send a letter before I go.
Your loving Son and Brother,
John C. Howard
