Country: Northern France, Allied-held territory
Current Time: 12:30
Weather Conditions: Clear with mild cloud cover, and a nice, warm, early spring day. There is a pleasant breeze blowing over the landscape.
++++++++
Sister Burr had always been a stickler for keeping things in place. Her creed was the commandment, "Thou shalt not steal." Every time one of the children tried to steal a treat from the kitchen, every time somebody took another's toy without the other's permission, Sister Burr would get on their backsides like never before. Adelheid had only felt the wrath of the woman once; that had been when the girl had stolen a few marbles from one of the boys to test out as slingshot ammo.
"RÉCUPÉREZ-ICI AVEC DU CE LAIT VOUS PEU DE RAT DE RUE!!"
And the reason was simple: thieves got punished, whether by a yardstick to the hands, or worse, a well-aimed metal pipe from an angry farmer.
Tearing down the unpaved main street of the small French village, Adelheid panted heavily, holding a bucket of milk to her chest that was sloshing and spilling all over the place. Behind her, a red-faced farmer - somewhere in his early sixties - was gaining speed, brandishing in his hand the aforementioned metal pipe. Adelheid had snatched the bucket off the ground while the man had been in one of the stores, but before she could make a clean getaway, a woman in the store had noticed and yelled. Although Adelheid knew only German, she was sure that the Frenchwoman had recognized her from somewhere, hence the pointing and the look on her face.
That wasn't good.
More and more people joined in the chase of the little child, who was now almost gained upon by the farmer. Her black, shoulder-length hair whipping in the wind, eyes wide and looking like two pools of ink spreading, she put on an extra burst of speed. This milk would've been her first real meal in four days; surely the Lord - and the farmer - could forgive her...right?
"ATTENDEZ JUSTE JUSQU'À CE QUE JE COLLE CECI VERS LE HAUT QUELQUE PART VOUS NE FAITES PAS POUR VOULOIR SAVOIR!!"
...Right?
+++++++++++++
