Salzburg Stadt-Theater (Laukkenan and Kriegheld)

It was winter in the town of Salzburg, Austria. The hotel Vaalto was staying at was cheap, and not well suited for this cold of winter. It was 1914 HRS, and all Vaalto had to do was sit around, or go to the bar next door. He stood up off of his bed and looked at the newspaper he had bought earlier that day. Then, something took his attention. The article read “Salzburg Stadt-Theater Überraschungen der City mit der Beste Show in der Stadt. The show astounded Vaalto so he grabbed his Reichsmark, from his bed side table. He thought about what he should wear, but he already knew. The grey dress uniform quickly came out of the bag on his bed. Vaalto stuck his arms through his jacket, after he lifted his pants up. He tightened his belt after he stuffed the bottom of his shirt in his pants.

His hands went to his winter coat hanging on the door. He grabbed it and opened the door, while throwing it on. Quickly, he walked down the stairs two at a time. As he walked out of the door he froze to the cold outside, but continued on. The street vendors were calling to people as he walked by them.

It took him 20 minutes to reach the theatre. He saw the lights on it and was about to walk in, when a car bearing 2nd SS flags parked in front of the doors.

[∬Hartwig Kriegheld]

It was not often that Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld got leave back to German soil, but when it happened he would certainly spend the time wisely. This time, Hartwig was seeing a play, Romulus der Grosse. It was the story of Romulus Agustus, the emperor of West Rome who was defeated by the Germans that led to the fall of the Roman Empire. Soon, he was outside of the theatre in the staff car he had properly requisitioned. An SS flag flew on the left of the hood and a party flag flew from the right on the black volkswagen.

The officer waited as he straightened the dark grey wartime uniform of the SS. He made sure the Wolfsangel was visible and that his collar tabs clearly stated his rank. Speaking to the driver, Hartwig asked him what the average cost of a theatre ticket was. Before stepping out of the car, the man slipped on his leather gloves, pulled his cap on and adjusted his armband. The black swastika stared out as he got from the car.

He went up the steps and into the theatre, got his RM20 ticket and was led to a section specifically for officers. There were two colonels and three majors with another captain sitting near the front of the balcony section. Kriegheld walked forward and took a seat two chairs down from one of the generals. He nodded his head in respect as he sat down and removed his gloves, stuffing them in his pocket as the lights went down and the play began.

Soon, the play was half-way done and Hartwig was enjoying himself. The play detailed, with bloody significance, the ancient German victory over the Roman Empire. It was meant to raise the spirits of the German people as they fought the larger British Empire. Soon, the play would be finished and the officer would have to spend half an hour talking with the other officers as they would all slowly move out of the theatre.

The sight of Hauptsturmführer Kriegheld getting out of a car near him, made Vaalto slightly jump. It was the first time he saw the Hauptsturmführer in his dress uniform, so it was hard to notice. He stood admiring, when a gust came through. The coolness made a shiver go down his spine. After, that he hurried in and quickly walked in. He headed to the ticket booth. Before, he got to it a group of soldiers walked up in front of him. "Kirota , esitellä alku kotona 15 pöytäkirja." he said to himself as he checked his watch. After 8 minutes he went was able to get to the booth. The woman in the booth was around 19, and blonde, with blue eyes. She smiled at him when he came to the booth. Vaalto smiled back as he handed her the RM20 for his ticket. "Vielen Dank, frauleine." When the girl heard this she blushed. It was probably the first time someone said that to her that night. Vaalto turned away, and headed to an area listed Military Personnel: Non-Commissioned Officers. He turned into it and found a seat next to an Oberscharführer. The lights dimmed and the play began.
