Country: German-Occupied France
Area/Setting:
Beginning of 1944. A mixed forest thinning out into the field, covered in glistening white powder. Nearby, an old, weather-beaten stone fence crosses through the wood. It is collapsed in several places.
Current Time: 09:10
Weather Conditions: Cold, overcast, a bit of snow in the air. The temperature is -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit).
Translations:
"WIRD JEMAND DIESES KIND VERSCHLIEßEN?!!" = WILL SOMEBODY SHUT THIS KID UP?!!
"Ganz richtig, die junge Dame, du sollen Ihren Namen festsetzen, wo Ihre Eltern sind, und das Essen zurückzugeben, oder ich werde - " = All right, young lady, you are to state your name, where your parents are, and to give back the food, or I'll -

The Germans slammed their hands over their ears as a high-pitched wail tore through the cold air. Birds flew in fright from the trees, for the scream was so loud, it echoed over the landscape and swallowed every bit of lesser sound in its path. Not even their thick gloves could protect their ears, and they glared at the one guilty of the screeching. They did not wake up at an ungodly hour in the morning to go on patrol to find this.
After a full ten seconds of screaming, the little girl in front of the patrol shut her mouth, staring at them with wide, teary eyes. They had discovered her devouring German rations with gusto; she was most likely the "animal" they had heard around their camp last night. The child was, probably, also the reason some of the spare rations were missing, too! With how she had been tearing into them, she was probably about as starved as they were after missing breakfast!
Growling under his breath, one of the patrolling soldiers opened his mouth to say something, but the girl let loose another scream. Once more, he flinched back, and slammed his hands over his ears. How loud could the little thing scream, anyways?! By the time they probably brought her back to camp, they would be worse than deaf. Several of them were tempted to shoot the girl and take back the stolen food, if not just to get some breakfast and finally end her stupid shrieking. With all the noise she was making, one might think they were torturing her!
"WIRD JEMAND DIESES KIND VERSCHLIEßEN?!!" one of the soldiers managed to roar over the din. His loud, angry voice seemed to do what he asked, and the girl was once again quiet, once again staring at the soldiers with those same fearful eyes. The man breathed a sigh of relief, as did his comrades, and looked sternly at the girl.
"Ganz richtig, die junge Dame," he began, "du sollen Ihren Namen festsetzen, wo Ihre Eltern sind, und das Essen zurückzugeben, oder ich werde - "
He was cut off, yet again, by a scream from the young girl, and once more, he and the others slammed their hands over their ears, several cursing loudly. They weren't shy about using some rather foul vocabulary, either.
