Country: Town Recovering in France Current Time: 20:00 Weather Conditions: Overcast skies, just got through raining, still cold.
It was freezing in the truck they were in. It was also very dark. He couldn't see much except for the small lights that faded in and out of the streets. He looked next to him and saw some kid that looked like he was twelve. How d' these li'l boys get in the service? He thought to himself. The rest of the ride was extremely bumpy and very uncomfortable. Until they came to an ubrupt stop. "Everybody out!"
"Well that wadn't a bumpy right at all." Robert said as he hopped out of the back of the truck that had just pulled into town. He felt the air, cold as usual. He also stretched his back and legs making a groaning sound. He stood there for a while waiting for the rest of the men to get out of the truck. When he saw the last face leave he stepped up to the driver's side of the truck. "I'm leaving at 23:59 whether you're here or not." The man was average heaight, but plump. "Yeah, thanks buddy. You have a nice time drivin' back now ya hear?"
When he turned around Joey was standing there right in his face. "Holy... Kid don't do that. Yer lucky I didn't gut ya. Robert said with a slight laugh at the end as he took the kid by the shoulder and gave him a friendly push to the side. "Well what'll it be kid? The bar or...the bar?"
The walk was cold and filled with talk of things that didn't matter. After a while they finally reached the bar. Robert walked in and hung his hat and coat on a rack. After that he rolled his sleeves up and took a seat at an open table.

why the hell is it so damn cold out? joey thought to himself as he stepped onto the truck. at least it was a tad bit warmer on the truck then it was outside but still very cold out. it didn't seem to make any sense were joey and the corpal were going, and for that matter, why he didn't know his name. joey felt good to finally be out some were away from base for a bit and to not being holding a damn gun for every minute of the day. the truck began to roll away as it started to jump up and down, it seemed like the driver was intending to hit every bump on the road. joey closed his eyes to try and get some rest.....
"Everybody out!" Joey's nap was disturbed by the driver. joey waited for the corpal to get out and he followed him. the truck seemed so quiet when it was empty. i could move my bunk into here and still get More sleep, joey thought to himself. he saw the corpal talking to the driver so he walked up. when the corpal was finished and turned around he let out this "Holy... Kid don't do that. Yer lucky I didn't gut ya. well that'll it be kid? The bar or...the bar?"
"some many choices." joey said to him then said "i was looking forward to going to see some Lady's around hear. you know what they say about French women." he had that crooked smile as he said it. "bar i guess." as soon as he said that they began to walk towards the bar.
when joey and the corpal had made it to the bar joey pushed the door open. it had a bell on it that bounced off the clear glass door as it was opened. ghetto alarm system, he thought to himself. joey saw the corpal hang his things up. joey only hung up his coat, but it showed the muscles on his arms. the were almost the size of the corpals head. joey kept his helmet on as it showed his meens of a soldier. he had a t shirt, with the sleeves cut off, that said the name of his high school along with football star. joey wandered over to the table with the corpal and brought a pitcher of beer with. he set it on the table with two beer glasses. he told the corpal this "i hope you like miller? only shit they have."

The smoke filled Robert's nostrils. The smell was pungent and irritated his nose, it didn't matter after a few minutes because he got used to it. The next thing he noticed was the amount of laughter coming from a group of about five or six Americans in the corner. They were making jokes and trying to touch the waitress. Who obviously looked like she didn't want to be touched.
"I was looking forward to going to see some Lady's around here. You know what they say about French women." Joey said as he came over. Robert looked at him and shook his head with a smile on his face. "Yeah, and I know you ain't gonna get one tonight. By now Robert was about to burst out laughing at his own joke.
"I hope you like miller? Only shit they have." Joey said to him as he was still staring at the group. "Uh...yeah. Ok kid, good with me. He said and gave Joey a small smile. The group still held most of his attention until Joey sat in front of him to block his view. His helmet was the real thing getting in Robert's line of sight.
"Why the heck're you wearin' yer helmet in here? We ain't gonna get shelled here." Robert said as the same waitress came to their table and gave them a menu each. "Thank ya miss." Robert said trying to be polite. As she was about to walk away Robert stopped her. " 'Scuse me miss, but are thos boys over there botherin' you?" She replied by shaking her head and walking away. "I ain't likin' this so far kid. If there's one thing that pisses me off more than Japs."

Joey began to drink his beer when the waitress came over. "Why the heck're you wearin' yer helmet in here? We ain't gonna get shelled here." Joey felted embraced as he slid off his helmet. He was excited to be out with a man that he didn’t even know his name. He wanted to laugh but he didn’t.
" 'Scuse me miss, but are thos boys over there botherin' you?" She replied by shaking her head and walking away. "I ain't likin' this so far kid. If there's one thing that pisses me off more than Japs." Joey looked over at the snotty men. He thought about the people that would make racist jokes about him all the time, those were those kinds of people. Joey made a fist as he threw his glass to the table shattering the glass.
“they’ve got it comin’.” He said as he walked over to the men pissed off. When he had made it to the people he had said “I don’t like the way your treatin that young lady there”
The young soldiers replied with “oh sorry what are you a fucking Ginny that decided to come to the allies because your family is full of dirt bags?” Joey was stunned by what the young man had said.

Robert saw what had just taken place. He sat there for a second just trying to figure out what Joey had just done. When he heard the obviously drunk man yell at him Robert was over there like a shot. He immediately got in between the both of them. He put one hand on each of their shoulders. "A'ight kids, let's play nice now." Robert said trying to make them both settle down. One of the other drunk men in the group came up on Robert's blind-side and shoved him. "Get off of him!" He yelled. Robert was caught off guard and stumbled into a table that had beer on it. The beer spilled all over Robert's pants.
"Bad friggin' move boy." Robert said as he recovered and started walking towards the man. The man instantly swung his fist blindly at Robert. Robert ducked below the hit and drove his shoulder into the man's stomach sending them both to the ground. He got to his knee and let one fist land directly on the man's jaw. The distinct sound and feel off bone on bone made Robert smile on the inside. Before he could get another punch in another mangrabbed Robert's shoulder that his punching hand was in. That's when Robert took a shot to the face. It stung for a second. Now he was mad.
Robert stood up and saw his new opponent was going to throw a punch, so he decided he would before the other man would. One struck him in the stomach, knocking the wind out of him. The next punch was an upper-cut right to the mans chin. He hit the ground and didn't get up. "A'ight who's next on the list?"

Joey stood there until the stare down was broken up. the corpal stood between them staring at us back and forth. it was only a few seconds until he was knocked on the ground. joey then ran into the drunk man infront of him, knocking him to the ground. joey was then thrown into a chair were he fell over and hit his head on the wall.
"ahh shit." joey yelled as he swung and hit the man ontop of him. he fell off of joey and joey pushhed him against the wall still on the ground joey kneed him in the gut. the man felll down and joey picked up a chair and smashed it off his head. joey then turned around and saw that the corpal had allready beaten three guys. he grabbed the last man and threw him on the table. joey swung once landing on his nose. it must have broke it as his fist was covered in blood.
when joay went to throw him again he heard the shout of someone. "break it up now!!!" joey turned around and saw who it was. LT. Stridle!!!!
"shit" he pushed the corpal towards were the area were the officer was. joey began to dash towards the door in the back. he had to get out of here before he was found.

Robert heard a booming voice penetrate the uneasy silence. "Break it Up NOW!" He recognized the voice anywhere. "Well how'd'ya do Lietenant?" Robert said as he nonchalantly gave a small salute. He meant no disrespect by it, he just didn't really want to do a legitament salute. While the Leitenant was walking towards him Robert wiped his lip and made himself somewhat presentable.
While he was straightening his shirt he felt a push from behind Joey you idiot He thought to himself. He stuck his arm out and grabbed the boy's collar and pulled hiom back. "Runnin' don't help nothin' kid. Gettin' chewed out ain't that bad if'n ya didn't do somethin' extremely stupid." He said and winked at the kid.
"Corporal Anderson. I should've expected something like this from you." The leitenant said sounding dissappointed.
"Why thank you, sir." Robert replied as he offered the officer a beer that hadn't been spilled all over the place.
" What was this all about? Did you just feel like beating a few soldiers senseless because you felt like it?" Stridle yelled after he slapped the beer out of Robert's hand.
"No sir. These men were disrespecting a female that has not been rightfully married to any of 'em." Robert said looking the leitenant in the eyes. The lieutenant stared right back without blinking. "Picture the young lady bein' yer wife, sir. You do have a wife don't ya, sir?"
"Yeah. Don't let this happen again otherwise you will be having words with the court-martial." He said putting extra emphasis on the will. "Now you two help get this place cleaned up. Now."
"Right away Lieutenant." Robert said as he gave a salute. [/b]"Now that wa'n't so bad now was it, kid?"[/b]

"Right away Lieutenant." the corpal said as he gave a salute. "Now that wa'n't so bad now was it, kid?"
"yeah except for two things, you forgot to mention the racism part and im hungry as hell and we have to be the bartenders bitch for the rest of the night." joey said as he gave a chuckle. he went over and grabbed a mop were he began to mop up the area of the beer that had spilled. he wondered what the corpals name was ever sence he met him. "hey, corpal, you never gave ma a name." joey kept picking up things and washing the area of the spilled beer. why was he here?

"Well, kid there's one thing you gota know. Racism is a part of everyday life here. It ain't just you" Robert said as he picked up a few broken glass shards. He then walked over and turned a table right side up from being pushed over. "Well, he ain't that bad, I mean look at 'im. He's like a hundred." Robert said with a laugh as the bartender glared at him.
One of the waitresses came over and started to help with the cleaning up. "It's a'i'ght miss. We'll clean it up. Robert said as he saw a few more men walk through the door. She gave him a small smile and went to wipe off a table so the new men could have a seat.
"Hey, Corporal, you never gave me a name." Joey said as he was mopping up some spilled beer. This kid better not be gettin' attached. Robert thought with some sadness in his mind.
"Robert...Anderson" He said hesitating on his last name. He hesitated because he didn't want the day to come where Joey would be walking through men dead and see his name. This was the worst part about war. Men became friends, then friends are lost and hate is mounted. This had happened to Robert in several instances not just one.
After Robert answered he walked over to the bartender to apologize about the mess.
