Weather Conditions: A pleasantly warm day of early spring, the sun is shining and there are not too many clouds in the sky.
The sun was shining pleasantly as three black cars purposefully moved along the streets of München. The weather had started becoming much more warmer in the past few days and some of the trees had already sprouted tiny, light-green leaves. Soon the parks and the shopping streets would be filled with people again. The sunshine had a rather effective way of luring people outside after the cold winter. Even the vicious bombings could not stop people from trying to enjoy the coming of the spring and at least in daytime the streets were safe to walk.
Otto Wolff could not really dream of spending idle time on the streets of München anytime soon, no matter how much he longed to walk in the parks and enjoy the sights of the beautiful city. Work was taking all of his time these days even more than before the war. After the communists had been mostly subdued, other criminals threatening the safety of the state had been taken under close watch. In that matter, Otto remained always the loyal servant and bloodhound of the Reich. His nose was quick to catch the scent of enemies of the state and his teeth clamped mercilessly on their throats, not letting go until the final sparks of resistance had faded away.
Unlike most common people believed, the Gestapo did not truly have agents everywhere. It was enough to make people believe that this was how things were, however. The Gestapo did not really suffer from any shortage when it came to volunteer informers, anyway. This was how new information had landed on Otto's desk just a few weeks ago and after a quiet but thorough investigation they were finally ready to move in to catch these perpetrators. A small but daring group of people had been printing and spreading anti-Nazi propaganda, something that only fools might hope to get away with. Such things had to be snuffed out quickly and that was precisely what would be happening soon.
Otto had requested for a small group of soldiers from the SS to assist the Gestapo in the actual detainment of the criminals and they were to meet the men for a final briefing in front of an old government building. The shabby headquarters that these criminals had been keeping were but a short drive away from the location, so the Gestapo and the SS could move in very quickly after all the men were clear on their tasks.
Brushing off some unseen dust from the fabric of his long coat first, Otto moved the sleeve slightly to take a look at his old, dented watch. They were just on time and there was no hurry, the small group of criminals they were after could not have possibly known what was in store for them. Just in case, Otto had placed an agent in civilian clothing near the location of the criminals to keep an eye on their movements. If something out of the ordinary happened, the Gestapo would know about it soon enough.
Glancing out of the window of the Mercedes, Otto already recognized the luxurious white building. The car slowed down, crossing over the narrow walkway and entering the large front yard. The intricate architecture of the building and the beautiful stone paving of the yard made the area appear quite regal. Somewhat further away on the street the occasional civilian made their way past the building, but all of them seemed to hasten up after they noticed the cars on the yard. The Mercedes Otto was in had no markings, but the car that followed the first one had "Polizei" written on both of it's sides.
The car came to a stop in front of the building and a door was soon opened for Otto. As the Kriminalkommissar got up from the black Mercedes, he saw that the men from the SS had already arrived in an Opel Blitz. Good, then Otto could get this briefing over and done with and they could get to actual work soon. The man started walking towards the Blitz, his younger, light-haired assistant Brenner close behind. The third man from the Gestapo stayed beside the car and the police officials only stepped out of the car to enjoy their cigarettes. They already knew their tasks and left the briefing of the SS muscle to the Kriminalkommissar.
Otto was a serious, poker-backed man in his fifties, dressed in a black SS uniform and a long dark overcoat which felt quite unnecessary now that the weather was so warm. He was a very tall and broad-shouldered man and he carried himself in a very self-assured and proud manner. His dark hair had started thinning recently due to his age and his nose had been left slightly crooked after an injury he had received while boxing. All in all, Otto seemed like a man who was used to commanding respect from the people around him.
Taking the peaked cap from under his arm, Otto placed it on as his eyes searched for the tabs of a Sturmscharführer among the SS men. The Gestapo officer squinted his eyes slightly and headed towards the man in charge of the soldiers. Otto had a habit of wanting to know something about the men he had worked with and he was already familiar with the man's name and some of his military history.
"Sturmscharführer Albrecht? Kriminalkommissar Otto Wolff der Gestapo. Das hier ist mein Assistent Kriminalsekretär Brenner." Otto's voice was low and slightly husky, he nodded briefly towards his assistant as he introduced him. The Kriminalkommissar's serious expression did not change for a moment as he greeted the SS man very matter-of-factly. "Gut um zu sehen, dass Sie bereits hier sind."
