Location: Carentan, France Time: 1200 hours Weather: partly cloudy
Joey sat in a jeep full of engineers that knew how to fix things up like MG emplacements and sandbags. there orders were to build up defensive emplacments on the three bridges to the north of the town hall so that the counter attacking germans wouldnt be able to take the town. the bridges were crucial as the were the only way to transport armour troops and supplys to area they needed to take over. if they were over run then they were to fall back to the church witch was down the street from the town hall. there were two jeeps going to each bridge to set up areas of defense. in the back were mines, barbed wire, sandbags and extra sand, and three machine guns. it was going to be a challenge to hold them off and they had time that they had to hold them off for. when the spotters ontop of the churches seapill saw what was heading to them they instantly called for rienforcements and sent the engineers to set up defensive emplacements. there was roughly 10 minutes before they would start seeing the germans in the area attack them in huge numbers. there were tanks and many other vehicles along with weapon crews from machine gun teams to mortor teams. the germans werent playing around.
when the jeeps had finaly made it to the first bridge joey and the others hopped out. among them was corpal robert anderson. joey imediatly grabed some mines and threw them down on the bridge. the captain leading them broke threw and said "allright men double time we dont have much minutes left lets go..."

The ride to Carentan was quiet and depressing. All of the men knew what was going to take place here. Robert was scared, but not half as much as he was excited to kill some Nazis. Lord, give me the strength to defeat my enemies. If I die in battle let me at least take a few of them Nazis with me. Robert prayed silently as he rested his head in his hands.
After a while later the truck came to a stop. "Alright men, double time. We don't have much minutes left." An officer said. Robert hopped out of the truck and started to do his job. His job was to go behind the men that were putting mines down and move them if they were a bit out of place or too close to another one. Robert saw Joey among the rest of the men putting down. "Crap" Robert said under his breathe. He liked the kid and all, but he really didn't want to see another friend killed in front of him, not again.
Robert kept to his job not saying anything. He moved a mine here and there, nothing else. When they were done with the task he jogged over to the officer closest to him. "Sir, any other jobs need doin?" he asked the man. He quickly pointed over to an MG nest. "Get those men plenty of shells then move to the next one and do the same"
"Sir, yessir." Robert said as he gave a quick salute and jogged to the men at the MG nest. "You fellas need anymore shells?" The men looked at Robert. "Yeah. We only have this box and another. We'll need at least two more if you can get 'em. Thanks buddy." The man said as he was checking the heavy gu to see if it could still chamber a round.

Joey layed down the last bunch of mines on the first bridge. he looked at it. about 5 yards wide.... and 20 yards long. some barbed wire in the front and tank traps up there would do the trick thought joey. he looked around for someone not doing anything. he saw robert just giveing out shells. perfect person to help him. joey thought to himself about how this could be the last time he every saw or even talked to for the last time. joey walked over to the jeep and slung his gun acrossed his back. he grabbed some metal chunks, some wire and some old fence poles. his shovel was attached to his back along with the sling for his gun, were his gun was right now. he walked over to an old wheel barrel. they must have been carry stuff in this, he thought, he threw all the things into it and walked over to an open and free man. "hey can you help me out?"
"yeah what do ya need?" the older man said with a raspy voice. joey explained what he was going to do as they walked to the front of the bridge. joey dug a hole and then the man pushed a fence pole in. this was going to be long, thought joey.
Joey was almost done with putting up the defenses when he heard "we got the signal everyone in the jeep!!" joey ran full speed to the jeep leaveing everything but his shovel and gun behind. he hopped on and the jeep began to drive. "to the church and everyone find somewere to take cover."

The metal box weighed about twent pounds, not very heavy at all. He carried one in each arm. Robert took them back to the MG nest where the men he had just talked to were. They were greateful and asked him if he thought the line was going to hold. "Well, if anythin' boys. There's gonna be alot of dead Nazis." He said as an evil grin came over his face. He moved again to see what else needed to be done.
He looked across the bridge and saw a few glints. Broken out glass most likely. He thought of the steel bayonets of the Japanese that had claimed one of his good friends' life. He remembered the sight and a small tear rolled down his cheek. You're never gonna be forgotten Jake. I'll tell your kid what a hero you were. These were the last words he said to his good friend before he passed away. The memory made Robert want to just sit there and break down, but he knew he couldn't he had to keep fighting, for his friends, for his family, for his love.
A few minutes after Robert picked up another box of shells and gave it to the Machine gunners, he heard a voice call out. "We got the signal everyone, everyone in the jeeps!" Robert quickly wished the two gunners luck and started jogging over to an empty jeep. On the way there he picked up his favorite weapon and his helmet which he had taken off to keep his head cool.
When Robert was in the back seat he looked out at the men he had just given the ammunition, he wondered if they had wives, maybe kids. He pushed the thought aside. When he looked back over he saw a familiar face. "Well how's it be Ginny?" He said with a smile as he looked at Joey, remembering the insult that the drunk man had given him a day or so ago. "What've you been doin' to help? Pro'ly nothin', right?" Robert said again in an insulting, yet joking tone.

"ive been doing fine.... and ive just been puting some tank traps and wire up." he looked the man into the eyes. was this the last time he would see robert? he hoped not. he thought about his girl and then his family, then the family he had at the firehouse. the firehouse is basicly were he lived.
the jeep stoped and turned hard. it tossed joey out of the jeep makeing him land hard. "son of a bi..." he sayed until he was interupted by some gun fire. joey's heart was pounding and the adrenaline was flowing throught his viens. joey found some rubble and he jumped into the area.
someone came up to him "here before you dig in take these." the man handed him some type of sticky greasy sock. "before you ask there sticky bombs. throw em' under da tanks and they gunna blowed up." the man ran away and joey dug into the pile of rubble. he heared some gunfire and then an explosion. the gunfire stoped.
the leautenant yelled out from the town hall window "bridge two is finished get ready!!!"

The jeep ride was extremely bumpy. If Robert had a weak stomach he might have thought about hurling all over the sergeant in the front seat. He didn't have a weak stomach though, in fact he had a very strong tolerance of things like this. He didn't mind speed, movement, and gore as much as other soldiers did.
Robert sat in the jeep thinking. If this is it God, please let my family and Delia know I loved 'em. Delia was the beautiful girl he left at home. He missed them and had determination not to die until he saw them again. But just in case he didn't he always had the fall back plan. Without any notice at all the jeep took a hard swerve throwing Joey to the ground. It looked like he hit hard, but Robert couldn't tell as the jeep went a few feet more and came to a stop. He hopped out jogged to a sergeant. "Corporal Robert Anderson. Anythin' needed sir?" He said. "No, just get to a foxhole, dig in, and be ready for a fight." Robert did just that.
He made it back to where Joey had been thrown out of the car and hopped in the nearest foxhole. Joey was in it thank goodness. There was something Robert wanted to tell him. "Hey kid, I never got to hear where yer from. I'm from Atlanta so if'n I don't make, could ya please look fer my family...and maybe my girl? Her name's Delia." Robert sounded extremely serious. He didn't like the thought, but it was always in the back of his mind. This could be it.

"Hey kid, I never got to hear where yer from. I'm from Atlanta so if'n I don't make, could ya please look fer my family...and maybe my girl? Her name's Delia." Robert said as he took on a serious tone.
"well im from chicago. if i dont make it, could ya take a trip to the chicago fire department for me? tell em what happened." the excited feeling in his chest swiftly took on a grim one. he was sad and scarred. there was something about war that didnt make sence. why do people kill people for no real good reason. what is so much better then me to kill a german? the ground began to shake.
"here those bastards come!!!" yelled out the leautenant. there was a stug and two panzers folloed by many troops. guns opened fire and then joey shot. "fuck!!!!" yelled someone. he figured that someone was shot. joey was begining to get scared as an explosion happened in front of him.
"shit my eyes!!" yelled the man next to him. joey leaned over and saw blood and a face that was dismantled. this wasnt gunna be good.

"Well, I'm from Chicago. If I don't make it could ya take a trip to the Chicago Fire Department for me? Tell 'em what happened." Joey said. "Don't worry kid. You'll be fine." Robert said he got ready for the fight. Just then an explosion rocked the earth underneath him. He heard yelling. A few men over he saw one who had gotten shrapnel all into his face. Robert jumped over to him and told him to be still. "MEDIC!!!! Hold on kid yer gonna make it just hold on. MEDIC!!!" He yelled to make sure the medic had heard him. A few seconds later the medic came and moved him away without saying anything. Blood had gotten on Robert's hands. He had had blood on his hands before, so he just did the other times. He walked behind Joey and patted him on the back. Leaving a bloody mark. This was for two reasons. One, so his hand was a bit cleaner, and two if he were ever behind him he could tell who it was.
Explosions kept going off. Screams kept coming. Robert was getting tenser and more angrier. "Come on you faggots! Fight like men! Come get some!" He yelled in blind fury. He was used to fighting crazed men with bayonets. Not tanks. When he was through yelling he saw a tank fire. It was pointed in his direction. He moved to his left a little and yelled "INCOMING! as he hit the dirt. He was able to move before the explosion caused any damage to him. The guy next to him wasn't so lucky. When Robert got up, all he saw of the other man was ashes. Robert moved over to Joey. "You a'ight kid? We need to move the got our position!" He yelled over the gunfire as he took Joey's collar to get his attention. "Move! Towards the center!"
The explosions kept coming and the screams kept multiplying. "Leiutenant! Where's our armor?" Robert yelled asking the Lieutenant a good question. "They'll be here. Any minute now." He said in a calm voice. Robert looked to the right and saw Germans. They were about four hundred yards out, but he knew they were Germans. "Germans! On the right side!" He yelled to the Lieutenant. The man quickly turned and looked through his binocs. "Anderson, you find nine other men and monitor where they go. If they come around towards us, you know what to do." All of a sudden Robert started getting a glimmer of happines. My favorite game. Hun the Nazi. He thought as he saw the last German run into cover.
