Name:(Patrick) Kuroda Kaito
Nationality: Japanese
What Army will Your Character Serve Beneath?: German Luftwaffe
Character History: Kuroda grew up the son of a fisherman. He however hated the smell, hated the redundancy but would never dishonor his father by telling him this. Kuroda knew one of the few ways to avoid being a fisherman was to enlist for service and so he took this route. Being a man of keen wit, fast reflexes and with a love of flying he found his way into the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service. His first flights showed he had a natural talent in the air, taking to the maneuvers like bird takes wing. Kurda later was involved with the second Sino-Japanese war starting with his first air to air kill over Tianjin in 1937. He flew for another year over the skies of china and accumulated several more kills on the poorly equipped Chinese airforce which in his opinion was like a tiger stalking small rabbits and of no honorable mention. For his actions and grasp of air to air tactics he was awarded with a special mission to deliver some of the newest Japanese avation equipment back to their German allies along with learn and teach tactics to the German aviators from his experiences. His mission however turned into a much longer stay when the Germans invaded Poland in 1939, the outbreak of the war making it difficult to transport sensitive material back to Japan the decision was made to absorb Kuroda into the German Luftwaffe where he has remained to this day.
Military Rank: Oberfeldwebel
Scenario: Your character is on the frontlines during a massive attack by the enemy. His leader takes a bullet to the chest leaving your character in charge... (What does he do? What is running through his mind?) Must be at least 15 lines of text.
Writing Sample:
Kuroda sat in the cockpit of his new Bf-109, he did not like the layout of the German aircraft or having to scribble over the translations on the dials in marker but while he could speak and understand German to a passable degree reading was still proving troublesome. Kuroda did however like the sleek design of the "thin one" as he referred to the 109 as and he did like his Schwarm leader. Hans Detrich was a veteran of the Spanish Civil War and a very honorable man. The other two in the formation where less distinguished but respectable enough they did not sneer like some of the black uniformed goons he had met at the airbase. Kuroda was mulling his situation over in his head while looking out the glass of the cockpit covering his zone when the rounds struck home. A four ship of Hurricane fighters were coming down in a high side gun attack the first volley shattering Hans cockpit and causing the front of his aircraft to burst into flames. Kuroda banked hard right in a defensive split from the other two 109s as they split left curling his aircraft around to better understand what had happened. "Adjust to heading mark six and disengage" he said calmly over the radio knowing the enemy had the surprise on the three remaining fighters. With altitude, surprise, energy and angle there was very little they could do besides die in a vain attempt to bring a British pilot with them. Kuroda hard rolled his 109 onto its wingtip however and pulled in tight and climbing, making himself a huge, slow turned target at the other two 109s broke and dove for the dust covered earth below them were there lead had just exploded into the ground. this maneuver caused the British hurricanes to decide between the easy kill, or trying to adjust their angle of attack and try to chase down the fast retreating diving Bf109s leaving the fight. Like good aviators they went after Kuroda 109. Kuroda smiled as he watched the British turn towards him slightly high side and come down, again with the high side gun attack. The British seemed to favor this and Kuroda was expecting it as the four Hurricanes came down he nosed up even higher pulling into a near stall lag causing an overshoot as the blister of gunfire passed in front of his aircraft, at that moment he pushed nose down into a dive, out of energy and out of defensive options he went into defensive spiral swirling towards the ground and building up speed as the four taloned pinwheel of death followed him into his own person cyclone ride to sandy hell below. Kuroda kept a constant eye on the reflector above him and over his shoulder while he also watched his altimeter tick out, jinking and spinning downwards to constantly spoil a gun solution on his aircraft, two of the British, the lead ones where firing anyway, showing they were rather inexperienced as few of the rounds even came close given the terrible angle. Kuroda smiled almost sadly to himself thinking the luck of new pilots had killed a great man like Hans as waited for the sand to reach up and grip his aircraft. at two thousand feet one of the British pilots broke off, at fifteen hundred feet another, at a thousand the last two split away and Kuroda shot his speedbreaks and flaps down and choked back on power jerking hard up out of the dive. Momentum carried the 109 to about sixty feet from the ground and he pushed the throttle hard forwards glancing upwards to the fast vanishing fourship of British fliers speaking to himself in Japanese "We shall meet again, on my terms, and we shall speak of Hans honor". With that Kuroda turned and headed back for the airbase the Germans had set up, with every intention of finding out which of the two surviving members had allowed a pack of British fighters to climb and engage them without warning.
