A loud hammering filled the otherwise peaceful woodland area, standing in front of a tree was large human shaped target, and holding it against the tree was Vittori Marino. The Italian Sargent was busy nailing the target to the tree, he bashed the large nail repeatedly with his hammer a few more times before stepping back and inspecting his work. It was a little crooked, but that wouldn’t matter. He then set up a low wall of sandbags in front of the target and camouflaged the barricade then walked back down the course he had built. It was a long course; starting in a small many roomed building that the men would have to breach and clear before descending into a maze of trenches with targets set up in almost every nook and cranny before coming to a wooded area that had to be cleared of all enemy targets.
Vittori walked down into the trenches, there was a machinegun target set up in an alcove with a view of the approaching trench just before it turned and opened into the woodland area. The target had fallen over and Vittori lifted it back into place, taking out another nail and pinning it to the dirt wall. He threaded his way though the maze and checked on all the other targets to make sure they where still standing before climbing out and walking up to the back of the building.
He entered though the back and closed the door, setting a target right in front it before continuing though the adjoining rooms, once he was satisfied that all the targets where set correctly he closed all the doors and went out the front. He checked his watch; his men should be here in less then three minutes. He closed the front door and paced about a little. He would have to follow behind his men and observe them as they went though the course, he could stand above the trenches and look down at his men as they ran the maze, he had set up over 30 targets thought out the course, and only by hitting every one could his men pass. They where shock troops trained for hard charges and close combat. After the course they would continue training in hand-to-hand combat, both with and without weapons. He only wished his men where equipped with Beretta 38’s instead of the Carcano M91, a whole squad with submachine guns would make ideal Shock Troopers. But he would make do with what he and his men had.
He looked up as a truck came into view, even from this distance he could see that it was empty. He frowned and wondered where his men where. He looked at the truck again as people seemed to materialise in the back of it. He shook his head; the heat coming off the ground must have disrupted his vision. He stopped pacing and stood in front of the building. The truck pulled up only long enough to let his men disembark; they quickly but casually came over to him.
‘Tutti i ragazzi a destra, non abbiamo fatto un lavoro semplice davanti a noi. Dietro di me è un percorso ad ostacoli progettato per mettervi alla prova in posizioni nemiche assaltano. Per passare a eliminare tutti e trenta gli obiettivi. Dopo il corso andremo oltre di mano in mano gli esercizi di combattimento.’
He walked forward and seperated the six men into two groups of three. ‘Sapete cosa si aspetta da te e tu sai il piano teorico alla base di questo. Useremo munizioni in modo da mantenere un occhio sui campi di fuoco e di assicurarsi che solo il fuoco contro i bersagli. Sarò osservando da un punto di vista.’ He pointed to a staircase that led to a platform over the top of the building that would give him a birds eye view of how his men where doing. There was also a horn on the rail that would be used to signal the start of the course, it could also be used to get everyone to stop in case of an emergency.
‘Due squadre di tre, si Leap Frog anche se il corso, una squadra che copre l'altro mentre avanza. Preparatevi ad andare sulla sirena.’ He turned and climbed the stairs to the platform, looking down at the men as they readied themselves. Once they had loaded their weapons and fixed bayonets he wound the small crankshaft on the back of the siren and the men stormed the building.

-All right boys, we have quite a simple task before us. Behind me is an obstacle course designed to test you in assaulting enemy positions. To pass you eliminate all thirty targets. After the course we will go over hand-to-hand combat exercises.
-You know what is expected of you and you know the theory behind this. We will be using live ammunition so keep an eye on fields of fire and make sure you only fire at the targets. I will be observing from a vantage point.
-Two teams of three, you will leap frog though the course, one team covering the other as it advances. Get ready to go on the siren.
