OOC: This is for our bonding, Riley.
Daniel sighed and leaned against the ledge on the roof of the tall, two storey building he was occupying. He looked over at the tall tree’s that surrounded the cabin and thought how they would be perfect for a sniper. And they were perfect. In the last few days his unit had lost a few men to the hidden German snipers in the forks of branches high up in the trees. The small river gurgled away to his right, making its way down a slope that Daniel couldn’t even tell was there. He was stationed in a tiny, but tall, house that was situated deep in a forest in northern France. Below him, the rest of his rag-tag squad were assembled. There were two Privates behind the sandbags below, with their rifles pointed out at trees all around them; Private Charlie Web and John Teal. Also in the small bunker was Corporal Smyth, similarly alert. Inside the house on the ground floor was his Engineer, Michael Burns. He was watching the river through a window in the wall, his rifle resting up on the sill. Seeing his men looking more alert than himself, Daniel quickly brought up his BAR to the wall of the roof and started scanning the tree-line. At least this had been built as a roof for people to walk on, so there was a nice three foot high wall, perfect for cover and an open trapdoor on the floor.
They were expecting more allies to be coming this way soon, because the building was heavily undermanned. It had five men stationed in it when it could easily hold fifteen. Everyone was nervous; the reinforcements were running a few hours late. They had enough food to last them for days, but they were in the middle of no-where, which was not a good place to be stationed. Everyone jerked as a flock of large birds flew up from the trees just a few hundred metres away. Daniel’s finger tightened on the trigger. The three cows that were nearby lifted there heads momentarily, before going back to their grazing. He waited a few minutes, but there were no further disturbances, so he relaxed a bit.
