Character History:
Young Otto Hinrichs, father of Matthaeus, met a young woman once at a pub during one of his nights out by the name Julia Cordlentich. The two had seemed to know each other’s family and their origins along with the stories that went along with them. Otto was a rather handsome young man at the time and immediately showed interest at the woman. He spent much time of his life chasing women around but never did he consider to become engaged to someone and live in his own household. Julia was the exact opposite in terms of her wants of relationships. She wanted to get married at an early time and have a very large family. The same was for her beauty, for she was a truly beautiful young woman, as most men in the town of Zweibrucken were attracted to her.
That night at the bar was a different situation for her, however. She had decided to find Otto and have a conversation with the young man, which indeed turned into something more intimate as they both gazed at one another, which in turn progressed into rapid compliments which led to the two young adults going home with one other. They began to meet up a bit more until marriage was finally put into their minds by the two families.
At the year of 1921 the two decided to get married and live their lives with each other. This decision made the two families grow a very close bond with each other, and which would ultimately prove to be an important factor in Matthaeus’s life as family would be a very important factor in him joining the war some eighteen years later after his birth.
On May twenty-seventh of 1922 at 0932 hours Matthaeus Hinrichs was born to the parents of Otto Hinrichs and Julia Cordlentich-Hinrichs. He was brought home a few days afterwards to a great big welcome from both his mother’s family and his father’s, also. Word quickly spread around town rapidly as people came to the door of his parents' residence congratulating them on a successful birth and also offering them all types of support. Being as his parents were, they would not accept any help. Otto and Julia did not need the help as they were both born into very wealthy families in both money and knowledge.
At the early stages of life, Matthaeus was cared for by his mother who stayed at home to watch after him and make sure that he was brought up to be a good young man like his father, Otto. Though his father hardly ever spent time at home with his family, considering how he worked long hours during the day at the local butcher's shop when the Great Depression swept over the entire country and forced Otto to pursue work in order to provide for his family. The hours spent there, however, kept the family together and also provided more sufficient means for them. Due to the fact that Matthaeus’s father was not around him, the young boy had trouble getting a male influence into his life. Though he saw his father and grandfather often, most of his life was spent with his mother, learning simple things around the house like cleaning, cooking, and even simple grammar.
Later on as he matured, Matthaeus attended school like most wealthy children did. He liked it, as he could learn how to speak correctly and even the proper way to write out certain letters. Everyday he would come home from school with a new lesson he learned and would talk about it to his mother. Matthaeus was always eager to wake up in the morning to attend school as there were many friends of his there. And still as he grew older Matthaeus would still come home and teach his mother the lessons that were learned that day. He went from learning how to read and write to learn such things like the anatomy of the human body.
When Matthaeus turned the age of fourteen his father made him come to the butcher shop after school and work to help the family earn a bit more money. At this time Germany was beginning to lose its’ wealth and most families were beginning to suffer from it. Matthaeus had no problem with helping to work with his father as at the age of fourteen most of his friends had begun to work and talk about it in school. To him it was an honour that his father wanted Matthaeus around him. He had never really spent long periods of time with Otto, therefore he and Matthaeus began to bond a bit more. Matthaeus began to learn more about Otto and vice-versa, Otto learning about Matthaeus.
Matthaeus was in his last year of schooling when finally the war had begun. Hitler was pushing heavy for the young men of Germany to join the war and fight for the fatherland. Matthaeus was heavily interested in joining the ranks of the army as most of the young adults did. It was an Honor to Otto, his father, for Matthaeus to join the army but his mother, Julia, Was a bit edgy. She wanted him to finish his last year of schooling before he had joined making the family a bit disturbed but also proud at the same time. Matthaeus understood where she would come from with that so he stayed in school for that last year and also continued to help his father by working in the butcher shop after school until dinnertime.
At the age of eighteen Matthaeus Hinrichs graduated from his schooling and brought much honour to his family, for he was one of the first children of his generation to finish schooling. He considered joining the army as Hitler began to press more intensely for more and more to join and fight for the father land. Matthaeus decided that it would be out of his best interest to join and in May of 1940, he joined the German army.
Matthaeus was not used to the pressure he experience once he had joined the military force. He went through the training by achieving the best results throughout, being able to raise the other soldiers' morale and pass onto them his own knowledge.
One year after beginning his training, Matthaeus Hinrichs was transferred out of his training regiment to the 21st Panzer Division. He served most of his fighting in the western front but for almost a year fought in North Africa. Matthaeus served most of his time fighting in the turret of a tank as he was known to be a tank commander.

0900 Hours
The morning was very cold as most had been the past month. The very few Tiger tanks left on the hill were all lined up spread apart so the if there was any artillery they would not all be picked off. In the front of the hill, though was a very large and superior King Tiger. It had been through much in the war as it led a tank column of 15 Tigers and almost 20 Panzer VIs. At the beginning of the war it was very large in numbers and terrifying but now that it had been beating around by the Russian tanks the column had lost many in numbers. All the remained was The King Tiger and 12 of the 15 Tiger tanks. The Russians had sure knocked the German tanks around but they were still in there and holding out for the remainder of their time out in the war.
Bellow the hill was a road the linked Berlin to Russia. The road was crucial for the German’s to secure and hold onto as it lead straight into the heart of Nazi Germany and could make it easy for the Russians to attack if they got control over it. The Germans needed to have control over it and hope for the best over keeping the road. The tanks that sat atop the hill though needed to use the road to get to the closest German HQ and get much needed repairs.
Suddenly some movement from the tanks came about as the top Hatch on the King Tiger opened up revealing Matthaeus Hinrichs. With a quiet thud, the metal Turret hatch hit the back of the turret and allowed Matthaeus to peeking out the top half of his body. He stretched out his arms above his head as Matthaeus was cramped up a bit being inside of the turret with very little space to move around. He reached down to the binoculars that were dangling around his neck and pulled them up to his face. The cold lens had sent a chill down his spine and sent a little shock across his face. The lens were quite fogged up also, therefore Matthaeus rubbed the lenses clear with the sleeve of his army issued Jacket. After doing so Matthaeus once again raised the binoculars to his face and scanned the area. His main focus was the road as the tank column would have to take that route to the next Panzer HQ where they would receive their repairs.
Scanning the eastern part road he didn’t see much of anything except for a few pieces of debris and burning tank carcasses that were destroyed the day before. He moved his vision from the eastern side of the road to the western where he saw nothing but the opposite. There was a Russian convoy passing through the area. It looked as if they were very lightly escorted also with a few tanks and then some jeeps with heavy machine guns on them. Easy game for the tiger tanks atop a hill to take out. Matthaeus quickly went back down into the turret of the King Tiger to inform the others on what he had seen. Russische Konvoiannäherungen. Drei mittlere Behälter, 6 oder 7 Jeeps mit Gewehren und herum 5 LKWas mit Abdeckungen, folglich kann ich nicht innerhalb sie sehen. Matthaeus watched as his men scurried around the tank to prepare for attack and also to inform the other tanks on what was going down.
Matthaeus Smirked and went back outside of the opening above to scan the area. This time it was with his naked eye as he watched the other tank commanders emerge from their tanks and scan the road. He had a fascination with the way others went about preparing for an attack. Matthaeus was calm and found it funny that others would do the opposite and thus over react to the simplest situations.
From the position atop the hill the tiger tanks would easily be able to pick off the convoy and make sure that they weren’t getting anywhere close to their destination. Of course the also did not know that the Tigers were waiting for them atop the hill therefore making this attack an ambush onto their convoy. Easy kills for the Tanks.
Matthaeus’s thoughts were interrupted though by the voice of one of the tank crew bellow him. His deep and rough voice rained out to him Sir, was unser Aktionsplan ist? Matthaeus hadn’t really figured out what they would de yet therefore there was a very long pause in the air as the only noise came from the wind that was blowing.
The crew bellow anticipated his answer as they were all ready to begin firing down on the Russians for some much wanted pay back. The Russians had really beaten the tank column up and this left a very bad taste in the mouths of all the tank crew that were in the tiger tanks. Matthaeus figured out the plan that they would take to attack on the Russian convoy. After the crew inside had gotten the message they once again came to life and relayed it to the other tanks and the sence of excitement filled the air once again.
Excitement rushed through Matthaeus with the thought of wreaking havoc on a convoy of Russians that had nearly killed off the whole tank column he was commanding. He said one more thing to his crew as they prepared for the attack. Erklären Sie die anderen nicht abzufeuern, bis wir.
The young man controlling the radio nodded and answered Matthaeus. verstandener geehrter Herr, Ihre Anzeige jetzt neu legend.
Matthaeus nodded and then said to the crew of his tank Danke, aber Muschel unten ist sie, nicht wie sie wissen, daß wir hier sind. Matthaeus watched as the Convoy approached them rather quickly. He was a bit eager now to signal his tank to fire and begin the barrage. He didn’t want to really get too excited as that could lead into frustration in between his orders.
The convoy approached and was ever so closer to the targeted area. Matthaeus waited for the right time to make the signal to fire. It would only be about a minute or two before they were at the point of attack. He once again spook to the tank crew below Werden Sie, der Konvoi sich nähert schneller fertig. Warten Sie auch meinen Befehl vor Ihnen Feuer. Zielen Sie für den LKW in der Frontseite und bilden Sie es Zählimpuls. Es konnte unser letzter Schuß sein.
A few minutes had passed before the convoy was in range but now they had crossed into the tiger tank’s range. Matthaeus was eager to just bark out fire now and begin the attack but he waited and covered his excitement with a blanket of calm and fake patience. He waited for the convoy to approach as he noticed it slow down a bit. Lifting the binoculars to his face he noticed that the turrets on the tanks began to turn towards the hill. Matthaeus’s eyes widened as a feeling of adrenaline rushed through his body. He quickly reacted and yelled down to the crew bellow him Scheiße haben sie uns, Feuer beachtet!
