Character History:
Jimmy was born to a relatively poor farming family in the Northern Irish countryside. He lived in a small farmhouse along with his three brothers, sister, mother, father, grandmother and grandfather. Jimmy helped on the farm from an early age, driving the plough and helping with the harvest. At five, he began his schooling at the small local primary school, located just outside the nearest town of Dromore. He was average in most aspects of school, but excelled at both poetry and games.
Jimmy left school at fourteen and began an apprenticeship as a shipbuilder in Belfast. He worked at the famous Harland and Wolfe shipyards in Belfast, where the Titanic was built. Jimmy was a good worker and stayed until he was nineteen. Sadly, he got laid off due to the Wall Street Crash and had to find work as a post boy. He worked in this job for about a year before the war began, before joining up seeking adventure and riches.
Jimmy was always the bravest, though most compulsive, of his brothers. He loved daring activities, such as nicking apples from the the greengrocer's in town. This got him in trouble more than once. He was also prone to cheekiness, which always annoyed the older boys at school. Although he took many hits when he was young, he grew into a strapping lad who wasn't to be messed with.
Jimmy was also a charmer, with a string of short romances in his mid and late teens. The final one became serious and he was engaged when he joined up. Jimmy was always popular with the ladies, so he had to be careful with the serving women in his army base. Happily, he always stayed faithful to his fiancé.
Jimmy was a good handyman and could fix many things. This could make him useful when a jeep broke down or a weapon jammed. He loved soldiering and found it great fun. He hopes to stay in the army after the war.
Military Rank:
Corporal

Jimmy was sitting on the concrete floor of the old building he and his unit were guarding. He was sat against the wall, his helmet on the ground beside him and his rifle propped against a chair. He was writing a poem in his notebook with a tiny stub of pencil when he heard Private Woods swear.
"What?" Jimmy grunted, standing up. He walked over to the window, the glass of which was long smashed. Woods turned to Jimmy and was about to point out the shapes he'd seen in the dark at the other end of the street, when they heard a screaming sound.
Jimmy instinctively dived away from the window, pulling Woods down with him. He recognized the sound of an incoming mortar shell. A huge explosion sounded and Jimmy knew it had been close. Another followed and landed even closer.
It was the start of a five minute bombardment. The unit huddled against the rear wall waiting it out. Suddenly the shelling stopped and there was an ominous silence. Jimmy picked up his rifle and crawled towards the window. He peeked over.
There was a whistle and a roar. He saw the first few soldiers of a German attack round the corner and charge up the street. Jimmy heard the sound of a Lewis gun opening up and watched as two Germans fell. It did nothing to stem the tide - the enemy kept coming.
Jimmy took aim and shot down an enemy soldier. His unit joined him by the windows and opened up on the Germans. Dozens were falling to the British defense of a few strategic houses along the street.
Suddenly, in slow motion, Jimmy watched a German crouch, take aim and fire. The bullet hit Sergeant Price in the chest and he fell out of the line of defense.
"Shit!" Jimmy screamed. "Sarge!" He fell beside the man and looked into his eyes. Sergeant Price was dead. Jimmy grabbed the sergeant's Sten and rose up to the window with hate-filled eyes. "Bastards!" he screamed. He fired wildly until the Sten clicked emptily.
Jimmy saw the Germans were close. Woods yelled, "We have to go!" Jimmy nodded and grabbed the sergeant's body. He slung it over one shoulder, pulled out his pistol and let two men get the doors open.
"Cover me!" yelled Jimmy as he staggered under the weight of the body. He went slowly up the street away from the Germans as his men covered him with fire. He saw the command post, situated in a house to his left, and made for it. He staggered in with the rest of his men and put Sergeant Price's body down gently. He slumped against the wall, his heart pounding. It was going to be a long day.
