Location: London’s West End - A Pub
Time: 20:00 hours
Weather: Pleasantly warm with no breeze – a clear night with no sound of aeroplanes in the skies
It was a warm evening. One of the warmest Stephen had felt in a few months. It was only mid-March but he was able to stand outside for longer than 2 minutes without getting cold. He was wearing an old purple and brown jumper – “VERY unfashionable” – Henry had said when he had seen him with it on. He was also wearing some plain trousers with lace-up shoes. Henry was far more fashionable – with quite smart looking suit-style clothing. Stephen thought he looked very handsome.
The two of them were standing outside a pub in the West end of London. Even though it was War-time, the pubs in the Capital still opened for paying customers who were willing to risk the potential bombs. But the German air-force had apparently been dormant for quite some time and word was that it had been destroyed all together by “our good boys the RAF.” Henry liked to boost sometimes about his experiences defeating the Germans. Stephen normally had let him talk and talk and then had shut him up by a quick kiss...in private of course.
The two sat at a table, cigarettes in their hands. The place was quite quiet for a Thursday evening at around 20:00 hours. A few people walked in and out, and a small group of men stood drinking a little way away down the road. Henry had been talking, and Stephen had zoned out slightly. He nibbled on his sandwich which Henry had brought him, and took a few drags of his cigarette, watching as the smoke travelled away into the night sky. Henry watched him, ”Hey, come.”[/i] he stood up suddenly, and Stephen frowned but followed suit. He knew what Henry was going to do – he’d done it often enough and Stephen enjoyed it actually. It was only kissing but to do it in such a public place was what gave the two boys kicks.
Stephen stubbed his cigarette and followed Henry a little way down the street, he glanced over his shoulder at the men – they’d taken no notice. ”Down here.”[/i] he heard Henry breathe and they headed down an alleyway between two buildings. It was disserted – bins lay everywhere and Stephen was careful not to tread in anything. There wasn’t much light apart from the moon. Henry stopped and turned, taking Stephen’s hand and pushing him up against the wall, Stephen felt himself tinge with slight pleasure as Henry kissed him...
A loud whistle pierced the air. Stephen felt Henry be pulled from him and he stared around in confusion. Two police-officers had appeared. "Getting cosy gentlemen?"[/i] one of them sneered, "You two are being arrested for your illegal actions."[/i] Stephen was pulled roughy from the wall, and hand-cuffs (not for the first time) were being put on to his wrists. "Names?"[/i]
Henry didn't answer, so nor did Stephen. "I see. We shall wait til you get back to the police-station."[/i] and the four men walked out of the alley way.
