Hey guys,
I've decided to make a small side-game that the entire forum can get involved in, whilst we amend certain site issues that have risen. As you may be aware, the shop has stopped working recently and that's due to the main code host abandoning the "yourshop" code that we currently use.
Never fear, there is talk of the code being rehosted by someone who can maintain the code and iron out those well known glitches we have experienced for over two years now. So I'm sure it will be up and running soon, for now though, I have developed a small game that everyone can play; if you're bored of the normal drawl of role play.
DESCRIPTION:[/B]
Outbreak is a small zombie turn-based game that the entire forum can participate in. Depending how many of you wish to take part, you will be apart of the minority of human suvivors against the hordes of undead.
Every day, you'll be able to search the territories for resources or supplies and upgrade your safe-zone with better defenses against the undead, who attack at midnight - every night.
The longer you survive, the harder it will get and small achievements will be given to those who accomplish certain things within this game. Those achievements will be listed below!
THE RULES:[/b]
The rules are simple, but maybe a little complicated, so read carefully and be sure to ask questions if you're confused. I will happily answer each question as best I can.
1. You must post daily.
If you're unable to post daily, but you're still within safe territory you stand a small chance of surviving. If you fail to post, but are in hostile territory, you stand a greater chance of dying.
2. Only two map movements daily.
You can only move twice within the day. Whether that's moving out to search a wasteland area and then returning home before midnight or staying out in the wasteland with both your movement actions, the choice is yours.
3. RP posts optional.
You don't have to role play your actions, but to keep with the theme of things, a small and brief role play post would be fantastic. Any long role play posts are allowed, but you must state what you have performed at the end of your post within a small OOC note.
4. Mod-Mark.
The following day only continues once a moderation post has been made of the prior day's events and any posts made after midnight (GMT time-zone) will most probably be counted.
The moderation post will not be made "bang on" midnight every night, so time allowances will be allowed for this game, if you happen to post after midnight; the main factor remains, that once the mod-post has been made, the next day begins.
5. Close Gates!
When a wall is built around the safezone, someone must close the gates before the town comes under attack! The gates must be closed (roughly) around midnight GMT time-zone. Posts counted after the midnight time may still be counted and if the gates are closed after the midnight time, may also still be counted - I'm not going to be strict on time management...
Still - someone must close the gates once a wall is built!
Anyone left outside of the safezone will be at peril and whomever closes the gate and leaves people outside of the safezone, cannot enter the safezone until the following day. Assuming they survive.
6. THE BANK!
The bank is the most important tool for all members to use. When scavanging the land for resources, they will all automatically be placed within "the bank" and once sufficient goals have been reached, defensive upgrades may be built.
It is important that you communicate with your fellow members!!! A "leader" will be appointed during the sign-up BY the members and it is this person who is the only one who can choose what updates are produced. Everyone must communicate with the leader to discuss what should be built first and foremost. If anything.
One Weapon, One Heart!
You can only use one weapon at a time, so if you would like to change your weapon, simply state this during your post (depends how many weapons have been unlocked or how many weapons have been found).
If you find a weapon that's greater than your own, you will automatically use it - regardless. All spare weapons will go into the bank and other members can use these, but depends on "the leader's" view on who should use them.
Mutiny:
Members can vote for a mutiny amongst themselves if they wish to have a new leader, but this would mean the current leader will automatically be banished from the safezone if all votes are conclusive. It is important that a good leader is selected at the beginning and has the respect of everyone!
1. When voting for a new leader, the following template must be used to vote with and your vote must be posted within the discussion thread of the game.
2. If the votes are more than 50% for the new leader, then the current leader will be banished from the safezone and forced to try and survive in hostile territory.
3. If the votes are less than 50% for the new leader, then the conspititor for the mutiny will be banished from the safezone and forced to try and survive in hostile territory.
The leader must make big decisions on what is built, who gets the "special weapons" if spare weapons are found and can even order members to do particular errands. They don't have to follow orders though, but it's important to have teamwork though.
Weapons and Resources:[/b]
When searching the land, you may find weaponry or resources you can use to build defensive structures within your safe zone. Every night, you will be attacked by a horde and every night survived, means the next night will be harder to survive!
Building Times & Leader Authority:[/b]
When building weaponry or defensive structures, the leader must pick a volunteer from the group of survivors or spend his own movement points on building the structure/weaponry. The leader may also automatically select someone to be put on building detail, if that member has already posted their moves on the map, they will be made void.
This means, whoever is selected to build, will not be able to move around on the map and hunt for weaponry or resources. So it is essential that you pick the correct people for the job.
More than one building may be constructed on the same day also. This just means one less person is used to hunt for resources or weaponry.
Defensive Structures:[/b]
Here's a quick list of what you can build and what's needed to build it.
Defense Tower: (5 Wood)
*** Four can be built ***
- Provides a rough estimate of zombies in each area daily.
- Provides 5% defense bonus to the safezone.
Wooden Wall & Gate: (10 Wood)
- Provides a perimeter for the safezone.
- Provides 25% defense bonus to the safezone.
Reinforced Wooden Wall & Gate: (20 Wood & 5 Metal)
- Provides a larger perimeter for the safezone.
- Provides 50% defense bonus to the safezone.
(Last-Stand) Fallback Bunker: (20 Metal)
- If the walls are breached during an attack, all members still alive will automatically retreat to the fallback zone inside of camp.
- Provides a greater chance of surviving when the walls have been breached, but does not add a defense bonus against normal horde attacks.
Field-Generator & Lighting: (10 Gas & 10 Metal)
*** A dice will be rolled for defense percentage ***
- Provides lighting at night and can greatly help against zombie horde attacks.
- Provides a varied percentage of defense ranging from 10% to 60% each night.
Weaponry:[/b]
The weaponry can be varied; you can either find weaponry from searching or build it!!!
Bow & Arrows: (3 Wood & 1 Metal = Buildable)
*** Everyone gets this weapon ***
- The bow and arrows are simple, primitive weapons that can be used to defend yourself against the horde attacks at night or faced against zombies when hunting for resources.
Jagged Swords: (3 Metal = Buildable)
*** Everyone gets this weapon ***
- Jagged pieces of rusty-metal are turned into splinter shaped swords that can "hack" away flesh. Good for close combat, but not the best weapon in the world... These can be used for both defending at night against the hordes of undead and fighting against zombies when hunting for resources.
Hand Axes: (3 Metal & 1 Wood = Buildable)
***Everyone gets this weapon ***
- A rusty jagged axe! This weapon is capable of "lopping" off limbs with enough force and causing real heavy damage. With a wooden handle however, they can be prone to breakage if over used. These can also be used for both defending at night against the hordes of undead and fighting against zombies when hunting for resources.
Handgun: (Only can be found)
*** Finder gets the weapon ***
- Although it's only a pistol, it's more useful than any buildable weapon and can do immense damage to the hordes of undead. Ammunition will not run out for this weapon.
Assault Rifle: (Only can be found)
*** Finder gets the weapon ***
- The assault rifle is the best mid-range combat weapon against the hordes of undead and can knock plenty of them back with a single volley of fire. This weapon can cause great damage and will prove worthy. Ammunition will not run out for this weapon.
Sniper Rifle: (Only can be found)
*** Finder gets the weapon ***
- The sniper rifle is the best long-range weapon and deadly accurate too. Although useless in close combat, it's best uses are put to the test with a set of keen eyes and can be very useful against repelling horde attacks at night --- with the right lighting. Ammunition will not run out for this weapon.
Heavy Machinegun: (Only can be found)
***Finder gets this weapon***
- The heavy machinegun is a beast of a weapon and probably the best weapon you can find for defensive purposes. Useless against close combat situation, whomever finds this weapon ought to sit tight and defend the fort! Ammunition for this weapon will not run out.
Random Weapons: (Only can be found)
Other unconventional weapons can be found when hunting for items, but you will only recover the weapon and use it, if it's stronger than your current weapon. If you wish to change weapons, weaponry can be banked!
Okkkaaayyy I think I've covered everything!?!?!
I know it seems very complicated, but it's not and once you play a few rounds, you'll get the hang of it. For a further example of how this game will work, I'll provide one below...
Example:
MOVE 1:
Bob wakes to the new day. The leader of their group has split them up into teams of two to search the surrounding area. Teamed up with Bobette, Bob makes his way towards the woodlands (move to A1) in search of resources or weaponry.
MOVE 2:
After searching the area, Bob returns immediately back to camp (safezone, move to B3) and settles down for the night ahead.
*** You can put both movements into one post or you can make one movement and reserve the second for a later post... Up to you! Either way, you are entitled to two movements within 24hrs ***
MOD POST:
Bob's search in the woodlands went well. After searching deep into the woods, he came across an abandoned camp that was eerily left in a hurry and was able to salvage a handgun and several pots and pans (+2 Metal).
Returning to camp, Bob boasted about his find and raised everyone's morale. The pots and pans were banked as metal resources and Bob showed off his 9mm handgun, ready for the nightly attack by the hordes...
Really hope I haven't made this confusing...
A map will be uploaded and shown once the official game opens. For now though, the map remains concealed. A discussion thread will be open for all members to talk in also, so the main game thread isn't littered with chat.
You must communicate... You must work as a team... You must make the right decisions to survive as long as possible.
So who wants to give this game a go? I'll close the sign-ups within the next 24hrs roughly, maybe less, so this game is up quick.
