Writing Sample:
Maddie could not shake that awful feeling that someone was watching her. Her heart was hammering in her chest loudly. Her dark brunette colored hair was pulled into a ponytail over her baby blue nurses uniform with a white jumper over that and a matching white band on her left arm. Her dark hazel brown eyes scanned around looking to make sure that nothing was out of the ordinary. Her mind was screaming at her to flee, but she didn't. her job was to tend to these soldiers and she wasn't going to abandon them.
All logic in her mind seemed to be trying to take over, but then at the back of her mind she knew that these soldiers would die without proper care and that's what a nurse's job was. To make sure that they healed and survived, no matter what. They were figthing for them.
She tended to the wounded soldiers, giving them water when they needed it. She tended to a soldier who ended up getting shrap metal in his leg and gently applied an antibiotic to it, causing him to suck in air and cringe in pain.
"I am so sorry" Maddie whispered to him, feeling her heart go out to him. She hated seeing people in pain, partically one of the reasons why she had become a nurse in the first place. She gently tied a white bandage around the area and tied the excess off in a knot. The doctor was going to schedule him for surgery as soon as possible. In the meantime, most of these men were suffering.
Perhaps I'm being paranoid Maddie wondered to herself trying to shake that feeling away. It subsided, but it only crawled under her thoughts but she knew that it would resurface again sooner or later.
