Character History:
Nico’s mother was an Austrian nurse working in Berlin, on the 14th of January 1917 she was raped by a drug addict and almost beaten to death. She was considering suicide when she found out that she was pregnant and decided to keep the child. Nico was born 10th of October 1917. The same addict who fathered Nico, this time succeeding in beating her to death, raped Nico’s mother again 13 years later. Nico came home just as his mother’s killer was wiping her blood off his fists and flew into a rage, he charged the man but was backhanded aside as the killer made his escape. Confused angry and in dispar, Nico curled up next to his battered mother and fell into a restless sleep. He woke up screaming, looking around hoping that his mother would rush into his room and cradle him, but upon seeing his mothers body he broke down in tears and took to the streets, running as far and fast as he could as if trying to outrun the pain and confusion he felt and slowly began to slip into madness.
Now alone and starving, he was recruited into a small gang of street kids. Like him they had no home and no one to look out for them. They only stole food and whatever else was needed to survive. Three months after joining Nico took control of the gang by killing the former leader with a broken bottle after the leader refused to help Nico hunt down his mother’s killer. Under Nico’s leadership the gang branched into more serious crimes, muggings and house invasions became a common practice, by 15 Nico had killed seven people in his quest for vengeance and was feared by all who knew him, even his own gang members feared him, believing him to be a psychopath. They gave him the nickname ‘Cutter’, due to the fact that everyone he had killed had been with a knife or sharp object. He was 19 when he finally caught a lead to his mother’s killer; one of the other nurses that use to work with his mother was raped and beaten as his mother was. The nurse quickly gave him her attackers medical file once he had explained who he was and what his intentions where. The file revealed that his prey was an Unteroffizier (Sergeant) in the German Army.
Memorising the file and leaving the gang he joined the army. He quickly found that it wasn’t only his mother’s killer that raped and killed women, there where other officers who committed such acts of cruelty as well. It took Nico up until the start of WWII to track down the Unteroffizier who had killed his mother. The Unteroffizier was walking home drunk with three of his friends, bragging loudly about how many women they had raped and killed and guessing at how many bastard children they had. Nico walked up behind the men and drew his bayonet, thrusting the blade into the base of the neck of one and kicking out his knee’s, as the dieing man fell Nico slammed the blade into the side of another mans head and cutting the throat of the third. Killing the three drunken men was easy, and now only his mother’s killer was left. He knocked out the Unteroffizier with a backhand and dragged him and his three dead companions into the darkness of an ally. There he tortured the Unteroffizier for half an hour, cutting up the mans arms and legs, before finally cutting off his genitals and letting the Unteroffizier bleed to death.
But with the satisfaction of the kill there was no closure. He had long ago purged his mind of emotion; he felt no happiness, no joy at the killing of his target, the man he had hunted for years. He still felt the hatred for German Soldiers and officers that continued to live, those who raped and killed women like his mother. When word reached him of what was happening to the Jews he made a personal vow to kill as many German troops and officers as he could. He would give his life to the eradication of his own people, the people who had betrayed and abandoned him, the people who had known of his mother’s death and did nothing about it. He would sabotage Hitler’s War Machine from the inside.

Scenario: You’re alone behind enemy lines and you get the eerie feeling someone’s watching you. You’re trying to remain quiet, stay low, work your way back to the frontlines - but you can’t help but feel you’re being followed… (How does your character React? What’s running through their mind?)
The snow crunched with each step, making sneaking all but impossible. Nico looked around his surroundings, attempting to pinpoint a landmark that could give him some idea where he was. He had learned that a squad of troops where patrolling the woods to the south of the town, only five men with MP40’s. Nico intended to make sure that patrol never made it back to town. He knelt down and examined the snow, easily finding the footprint of the patrol, walking single file and heading east. He couldn’t tell how old the tracks where but at least he knew he was on the right track. Pulling his coat tighter around his chest he set off after the patrol at a light jog, his Karabiner 98k slung over his shoulder bounced annoyingly with each step until he unslung it and carried it.
He didn’t even have a reason for hunting this particular squad, he had overheard a few men talking in the barracks about the unlucky dogs patrolling the southeast sector of the woods and had taken off after them, checking the small armoury on his way he figured out what weapons they where carrying and that’s all he needed to know. He smiled as he began day dreaming about how he would kill them, he would run up to them shouting that he was a new recruit who had been sent out to gain some experience in the field, then as the opportunity arose he would knife one of them, take their MP40 and gun the rest down. Then he planned to tie them to trees and gut them, leaving their bodies to be found by the next patrol. He already had a reputation within the German ranks as a “Demon Butcher”. They thought it was the idiot Americans who where taking out troops and butchering their corpses, they where all fools as far as Nico was concerned. Fighting a foolish war for foolish reasons and following foolish leaders. Nico was no fool, he followed his own random urges, pretending to obey without question the orders of his superiors and quietly planning to slit their throats while they sleep. He shook his head free of the daydreams and forced himself to concentrate, he had to be careful.
He dropped into a crouch as gunshots rang out through the trees, he could hear the rattle of the MP40’s and the bark of the M1’s the Americans used. He threw stealth to the wind and started running towards the shots, an insane need to be in the action overpowering his sense of self-preservation. How many did they kill? Those idiot Americans where stealing his prey. The gunfire came to a halt and he could hear Germans shouting. Nico smiled, the Germans had won the fight, and he still had something worth killing. He climbed over a large mound of snow and looked down into a white valley. Near the far tree line where bodies from the fire fight, their blood bright red against the white landscape, three of the five Germans where among the dead, the other two where standing in front of three kneeling American troops. The Americans had their hands over their heads and their weapons and ammo stripped from them. Nico smiled as he made his way into the valley. “Schieß mich nicht Brüder, ich hörte die Schüsse und kam zu Hilfe”.
He could see that one of the German troops was injured, bleeding heavily from a wound in his chest. The wounded German smiled as Nico brought up his weapon and aimed at the Americans. “Wir müssen diese Gefangenen zurück in die Stadt zu bekommen, und ich brauche einen Arzt schnell sehen.” The wounded German said, staggering back a few steps and lowering his weapon. He was about to speak again but his words caught in his mouth as a shot rung out, the unwounded German fell to his knees, clutching his throat as blood spurted out between his fingers. With a quick few steps Nico closed the gap between himself and the wounded German, bringing up the stock of his rifle and cracking the man across the jaw, Nico continued bashing at the Germans head with the stock of his rifle until his victim stopped moving.
Nico climbed to his feet, wiping blood from his face and looked at the American troops. “Leave your weapons and go home.” He said in thickly accented English. The troops got to their feet and took off at a run. With a satisfied smile he turned on his heel and started walking back towards the town.
