The cool breeze blew through the hair of the squad as they marched in time along the road. Baker Squad under the command of Sergeant Thomas Riley was a small one today. About ten of the men were new to fighting, and the other five or six were old-harden battle types. Stephen Colly fell into the latter of those two categories. He had seen war, and like many was deeply affected by it – but the affect didn’t show at the moment, hence why he was here. Baker Squad had been short on soldiers and as Stephen hadn’t been needed in his own squad, he had been drafted into this one – easily understandable. However, Stephen was in truth a rubbish soldier. He was scared of everything – the guns, the shots, the fear of being wounded – he didn’t even want to be in the army; some could call him a coward almost.
But, today he was one of the more experienced – apparently. According to Sergeant Riley, he and the other five were to look after the new recruits – shit... Stephen wished in a way he was one of the new recruits. He had been once, and he was even more scared shitless now. Fuck it. He’d try his best and if it didn’t go well then, then maybe he’d get kicked out of the army or killed.
The one thing he was pleased about was Private Tristan Green was amongst the squad. The man had saved his life a few months ago and Stephen had not seen him since. He remembered the distinct face of the man and when he saw his name down on the list; he nearly jumped for joy. Why was he so happy? Well, this man seemed to have an amazing sense of...sense of power even though he was a mere private. He was beautiful, with those sharp eyes and defined features of his face – the mouth, the nose. He was toned as well, and his hair sat perfectly on his face. The boy was marvelled by him almost. He hadn’t spoken to him but had locked eyes with him a few times along the march. Green probably thought he was odd, and strange...what else is new?
Green was a few soldiers down from Stephen, he watched the back of his head and was tempted to walk up to him and begin to talk. So he did. He quickly side stepped a few people who grunted in annoyance and came up beside Green. ”Bored yet?” he muttered, smirking slightly and grinning at the man before turning his head to face the front again.
