What Army will Your Character Serve Beneath?
Soviet duh haha
Character History:Aristarkh, or Arky for short as he was called by most of his friends and family, was born in Stalingrad, Russia. His family was a huge parts of his life early as the taught him at home. Arky and his brothers, Nicolai and, Alekhandra, would play army men all the time in the streets. They would act like they were part of the central powers in world war one fighting against the British in witch they would play almost everyday. For some reason Arky always loved to play games outside. There was never a time in his life that he would choose being inside instead of out side, playing with his brothers and friends. They had the biggest imaginations in the world. Weather it was pretending they were fighting in a war or they were animals that would scavenge for food in the streets. They always had fun and they were always the ones to be leaders in there neighborhood. Even one day Aristarkh found himself in the middle of a sewer pipe. He thought it was amazing and cool as he looked around for many different animals in the pipes. Arky showed his excitement by bringing things home to his mother and father who were always either creeped out or scared, but always loved give him encouragement to keep finding this like this and achieving what he would be happy with in life. Aristarkh was home schooled by his mother. Right after he ate lunch, always, his mother would have the kids gather in an alleyway to receive her teachings. She would teach them how to read and then how to do math. Sometimes she would bring in old scraps of newspaper for them to read as they would write the alphabet on them. The kids would always be proud and happy to get and education as there parents didn’t have enough money to send them to grammar school. No student would think about skipping or leaving it as they saw it as an opportunity. And opportunity to get far in life and to correct the mistakes there ancestors had made. Another thing that Aristarkh was taught was religion. He always went to church with his parents and learned about the teachings of Jesus and about how much religion meant to his family and ancestors. Aristarkh had many opportunities in his early childhood.
Aristarkh’s later childhood was even better compared to his early childhood. His father had gotten a job at the local factory and his family was making enough money to send him and his brothers to a school that was close too two miles away. Going to that school was the first time Arky had ever been out of his neighborhood in Stalingrad. His older brother Nicolai would have to walk Aristarkh and Alekhandra to school in rain or even snow. Arky and his brother would still go no matter what because it was an honor to go to grammar school that all the kids were very jealous of them. But when the brothers got back from school there would always be a group of kids waiting for them to come out and play with them. Aristarkh would begin to play more games with his friends such as catch or more advanced war games based on the teachings Arky’s teacher would tell them and they would then have more fun playing. Aristarkh’s later childhood could have never gotten better for him.
Life began to get worse as Aristarkh’s early teen hood came around. His mother became very ill and his father wasn’t making enough money for the kids to go to school and his mother to get treatment. Arky had to give up school and soon his mother was put into the hospital. Arky was scared for his mother as he thought that she was going to die, and he would never see her again. People would tell him to not think like that as he would have to be positive in order to have his mother survive his illness. He would always go to see her right after work. His father made him get a job at the factory with him along with his three brothers. His mother always had a smile on her face when he came to see her and it was the greatest thing in the world for her to see her three sons there, in the hospital room, with her loving her and wishing that she would stay alive and keep living with them. Sometimes they would bring gifts to her, such as a stuffed animal or, a flower that they found in a garden or on a patch of grass. This always brought a smile to her face as she wanted to live and didn’t know what was going to happen to her or her family. Aristarkh’s early teen hood was always something for him to try and forget.
Life was a real drop when he turned sixteen. Aristarkh’s mother had found out that there was no way to treat her or to help her in her situation. She was going to die and no one knew when. Arky would come home from work and cry as he knew that the day he was currently in could be the last day he ever sees or talks to her. But he always made sure he went to see her and had a smile or hid his biter sorrow and upsetness towards what was happening. His mother was always happy but she kept getting weaker and weaker as she went on threw the days with her illness. Aristarkh would notice this and always get very upset about it because he knew that she had much pain and couldn’t cope with it for much longer. He would keep hanging in there with her as she had a huge journey to her death. Aristarkh would always hang in there and see his mother during her final moments.
When Aristarkh had gone to see his mother he walked into the room and saw nothing. Just a bed but nothing else. He suddenly dropped everything he began to cry and ran towards the bed. That day was something he would never forget as him and his family would never be un-impacted by this day. He had decided that he would have to move on but without the one who was the largest part of his life. His mother meant everything to him and he couldn’t believe that he had lost her. But when he had finally made his way with what had just happened he moved on and began to work again. His father joined the army at the start of the war and never was called for combat after training. His father would teach Aristarkh the ways of a sniper and how to be stealthy. They would spend hours on end just sitting in the alleyways hiding and then trying to find the other person. If they were found they had to start over. Him and his brothers would do this before dinner and if Arky’s father said you were good that day you could go in and wash up for dinner. Aristarkh would love doing this and his father almost always had trouble finding him when it was his turn to hide. A few years later Arky’s father taught him how to shoot a gun. This was a new experience for him as this was something Aristarkh thought he would never be able to do. This was his dream ever since he played war in the streets with his friends as a child. There would be targets like circles of old paper or newspaper. His father loved to teach him these things as he wanted them all to go into the military to defend there country, the Soviet Union. When the war started getting closer to Stalingrad, the factory that Aristarkh worked at was transformed into one that produced military products such as guns, artillery shells, helmets, grenades, ECT. Arky was most certainly intrigued by this. He would sometimes pick up the guns and hold them. He would hold them like he was the sniper his father wanted him to be. There was always his boss, the factory owner’s son, which would yell at him and tell him to keep working. Aristarkh would snicker and place the gun down continuing to work on the weapons. It wasn’t until the day that he was walking to work and saw a newspaper stand showing that the war had moved even closer to Stalingrad that he wondered about joining the military finally. That night he talked to his father about it and he told him yes only if Stalingrad was to be attacked and the threat of it being taken over would be the outcome. Arky began to go to work as usual until about fifteen days later there were sirens that went off. People were yelling for everyone to navigate there ways away from the city as they were beginning to get attacked. Aristarkh ran home to grab his rifle, given to him from his father, and a ring of his mothers that she was wearing when she died. The war had now just begun for him. And he wasn’t holding back….
Also Aristarkh has a cousin and his name is Nikolai Petrovich Boryenko

Writing Sample: It was a dark yet clear night. The smell of smoke and gunpowder filled the air. What was happening as of right now not many knew. All most of the guys in this area knew was that the Germans had moved into the area and tried to take over Stalingrad. Most young men, if not volunteered to have there service, were forced to join the war and the red army. It was a tough yet not very harsh time for the people of this area. The bitter cold wasn’t anything Aristarkh hadn’t dealed with before. The coat he had on would keep him warm long enough to make his way stealthy and swiftly to his destination. Every time a breath went threw his lungs and then came out of his nose he made a cloud of fog that made even more chills go down his ribs like someone running there fingers down a xylophones. The weather was always harsh in Russia but he was even more affected by it due to the course of events that had taken place in the past five years. First his mother died, then the war started, then to top it all off he joined the military. It was nothing like he ever thought he would have to go through but it was happening. It was real it wasn’t like the ways he played with his friends in the streets of Stalingrad. He remembered those days. Now the streets were nothing but holes, trash, and bloodshed. Aristarkh was beginning to get the creeps from what was currently happening to the city he once called home. Arky decided to continue moving as he saw nothing from atop the wind he was looking out. Grabbing his gun he slung it a crossed his back and walked towards the stairway. It was a white and brown staircase. Obviously cost a lot of money and this family must have been rich as the walls were decorated with many pictures and such.
There were paintings on the walls of the staircase. As Aristarkh walked down the stairs he looked around yet listened to the noises coming from outside of the two story town house like building. Aristarkh’s boot had hit the hard wood floor of the first story and he grabbed his knife from the strap a crossed his chest. There was never any use for such rabid fighting when he was a kid but he still used this knife for almost anything in the military. The way Aristarkh thought he wouldn’t have to fire a shot and reveal his position to the enemy if he could sneak up to them and slit there throat or stab them in the heart. That was the best way to kill if you were inside of a random building that was close quarters. His father taught him this as he taught him almost anything about military and being stealthy. The Mosin Nagant that lay in his hands as of now was his primary weapon but wasn’t used as often as the knife that lay in the Hollister on the strap a crossed his chest. The door was just about 50 feet away from him and he slowly walked towards it. Aristarkh was a bit nervous now but he tried to calm himself. Nothing was working so he turned to and old classic trick. Deep breaths, he sat there in the middle of the room taking deep breaths until the butterflies in his stomach went away and allowed him to continue walking towards the door. He thought to himself, I am not going into another damn building again. That wasn’t the way he should have been think but he was due to the fact that he was a leader and didn’t want to set the wrong example towards the others. The door was half broke down and looked like it was cut in a circle by a kid who had just learned how to use a saw. It was easy to open because as soon as a hand was laid onto it the door creaked open and let Arky outside towards the war once again. There were gunshots and things that began to go off but nothing that was near him. The notice outside of the tall building was enough to drive a grown man insane. Still walking he made his progress towards the huge archway that was in front of him. Not wanting to get caught by anyone he continued to walk at a fast pace. Almost a trot. Leaning into each stride Arky began to run or more of like a jog. The fast pace was enough to give him a shortness of breath and a cramp into his side that was beginning to get nerve racking. Making it to the archway Arky finally sat down.
After a short rest Aristarkh stood up and walked again. He looked at a map. Almost there, he thought to himself as he progressed down a street. Not much had made him nervous but when he began to hear something like footsteps he got severely nervous. Continuing his footsteps Aristarkh felt that he was being followed for some reason. Keeping his head on a swivel, Arky began to run again. He remembered the sewer that he would go into as a kid. Aristarkh just kept running.
When he had finally reached the cap to the sewer he opened it, setting the cap aside, and then climbing down the ladder. There was water dripping that echoed throughout the tunnel. A smell that had really filled his nostrils but it was a familiar smell. Aristarkh hadn’t been in these tunnels for close to years. He knew ever corner, ever turn, and ever exit. The tunnel began to bring back memories about his childhood. It brought back memories of his mother. Reaching into his right pocket he took out a ring. Golden with rubies, and diamonds on it. Looking at the ring he totally forgot about being followed. He felt like his mother was right there with him. Watching him as he tries to make his way back home. Aristarkh remembered passing his true home, his house in witch he grew up in, was destroyed. Nothing was left but burning rubble and such. Arky remembered the fact that he was being followed and he put the ring into his pocket along with all of the memories that just came back. Continuing down the tunnel, Arky took a right. Soon he would be out of the tunnel and back to the HQ. The HQ was a huge building that had been transformed into a base for the Russians in the Stalingrad area. Aristarkh was given a mission to go into the enemy territory and find out what they were doing. He began to regret what he was now doing as the fact of having a feeling of being followed wasn’t exactly what he was looking for. Continuation down the tunnel he remembered the area were he would catch all of the animals. Why was this bringing back so many memories?
When Aristarkh approached the area that was always full of animals he crouched down. Looking in the murky water, about 3 inches deep, he tried to find something in it. Swishing the water with his fingers, Aristarkh found a salamander that black with red and blue spots. He smiled and let it crawl up his hand. When it reached his wrist he slowly pulled it off and set it back down in the water. With a smile on his face he continued down the tunnel again. Awaiting more memories to hit him.
When the end of the tunnel came Aristarkh strapped his gun to the back of him. Continuing to climb up the ladder he felt the guilt of killing people in this war. But why he thought as he neared the top. They took our home and everything we loved. Aristarkh reached the top of the ladder. Not as slimy as the rest of the rungs he thought. Climbing out of the hole he smelt familiar smells of gunpowder and smoke once again. He saw the HQ in front of him about 90 yards out he began to think. Wishing that they would quickly let him in due to the fact that he wanted to take a rest. He found the outside of the base and talked to the mane in front of it. Telling who he was and were he went and for what reason was that he left. The man let him in allowing Aristarkh to finally sit down, get something to eat and take a quick rest. Aristarkh now felt accomplished and happy at what he had just done. Standing up now he followed the guard into the room of the higher officers was and he lived for moments like this. Moments in witch he was the hero. Were he was the one who was accomplished and making progress in his war record. Progress in his life, Progress in witch he would never forget and never be left out in his life moments. Forever this moment will live in infamy in his life. Almost like a picture album of his mind. Forever encrypted along with every thing else in this war…..
