Soviet/Red Army
Character History:
Nikolai was born to a family of five in Yeleninskoye in 1918, and grew up in the Ural Mountains. He had one older brother, Yuri, and one younger sister, Anna. Yuri was born in 1917 and Anna was born in 1920. His father was Petr Alekovich Boryenko, a metal worker and great hunter in his village. His mother was Aleksandra Marcov, she stayed home and took care of the children while their father was away from home.
The mountains were a very cold place to live, but he enjoyed his life very much. He loved both of his siblings and kept them close. His school on the other hand wasn’t so good. He often got into fights with the other children because of his build and height. He was always a bit shorter than everyone else. He could always hold his own, even against some of the biggest boys in the school. When he would have trouble with a fight his brother, Yuri, would always either help him during the fight or tell him how he could correct some things. Either way Nikolai always got good advice from his brother, his best friend.
Growing up Nikolai was lucky enough to be able to find a dog that had been thrown out by his master. It was a Siberian Husky. Nikolai named it Cossack or Soldier in Russian. He and his sister found him one day on their way back home from going to town to buy some bread for diner. The dog followed him wherever he went, whether it be hunting, fishing, or even just running around. Cossack also had a very keen sense of when to be quiet and when to be loud, this made him a great asset to Nikolai when he would go hunting, especially since Cossack had a great sense of smell. Nikolai couldn’t always rely on Cossack, though. Sometimes the scent would be lost or snow would cover the tracks. That’s why he was such a great tracker.
Nikolai also grew up in a strictly Catholic family. They went to Mass whenever his father was home. When his father wasn't home his mother would read the Bible to them all. He enjoyed the times he had with his family. He would always love sitting by the fire on Christmas Eve to listen to the story of Christ’s birth. It was his favorite story. This is the time that he cherished most with his family.
Nikolai spent a lot of time with his brother and father hunting rabbits and other small game, as well as the occasional ram. He picked up many skills such as tracking, patience, and accuracy. When it was nice enough Nikolai would go with his brother and sister to go play in the fields and climb trees. Nikolai's build helped with this, he was shorter than most and weighed less too, but he had the attitude to make up for it. He was normally very quiet, but when he was presented a physical problem he could normally overcome it with his cunning and knowledge of his own abilities.
When Nikolai was thirteen his mother died of a bad fever. Leaving fourteen year old Yuri to take care of the family while their father was away. Nikolai took full responsibility for his younger sister. He never let her out of his sight. He also felt responsible every time she got hurt or cried. Nikolai would do everything in his power to make her feel better or make her more comfortable. This would normally mean he had to sacrifice something of his own so she could feel better.
In 1935 Nikolai's brother joined the Russian Army. Nikolai and his father couldn't be anymore proud. One month later Nikolai joined the Red Army as well. He had just gotten through the basic training when he received a message from his father telling him that Yuri was killed, by a German sniper. As soon as this message got through to Nikolai he was devastated. He now knew what he wanted to do with his military career. He wanted to be one of the 'snipers'. His real reason for wanting this was that he wanted to possibly kill the man who had taken his brother from him.

The wind was splashing salt water into Nikolai's face. The cooling feel made him even more on edge. he was on his way to Stalingrad. He sat at the front of the boat, since he was the highest ranked man in the group.
He looked at the group of people, Russians, on his boat. "How much longer comrade?" one of the younger men asked him. "Not very comrade" Nikolai said in an easy tone. They were about one hundred feet from the beach. He figured he had to say something to make them all feel like they needed to survive, so he started talking. "Welcome to Stalingrad, comrades. Here we will push the fascists all the way back to the Volga if Mother Russia is to succeed in our campaign." Nikolai felt this was too short to just leave them with these few words so he went on. "Listen to me as I say this comrades. You must kill the Germans, this is your mother's prayer. Kill the Germans, this is the cry of your Russian earth. Do not count days. Do not count miles. Only count the number of Germans you have killed!" By now they had just docked. "Death to the German invader!" He yelled as all of the men and women in the boat echoed back.
Nikolai was the last one to get off the boat and when he did a man approached him. "Comrade, we need someone with your training to come with us." Said a burly man with a hat on, a Leitenant's hat, obviously talking about his scoped Mosin-Nagant. "Yes, comrade." Nikolai said as he walked next to the man.
When they got to a break in the lines there was a small high rise with a blow out wall. It had a small peephole on the bottom of it. They both crouched and started to whisper. "We need you to stay here and take out any Germans who come through this open area. If there is any type of tank or armor, I want you to whistle like a bird. Understand?" Nikolai nodded his head. "I will be back in a few hours. Good luck comrade." The man said and moved away still crouched.
Nikolai took the position un a prone position. He looked through his scope and adjusted the knobs on the scope slightly Perfect. He was there for only about twenty minutes before he saw one German private walk into the open. He stood there for a few seconds then waved the res over. Look at the collars. What do I see? When the third man had passed he finally saw what he was looking for. A Sergeant. Nikolai felt his heart race a bit as he saw the man's face through his scope. Give me guidance Lord. He took a deep breathe, then exhaled. He took another and let it out half way. He squeezed the trigger and the rifle went off. He kept peering through the scope. It was a direct hit. The Sergeant fell to the ground and the other Germans sprinted for cover. "Now let us see who the hunted is now." He mumbled to himself as he bolted back the rifle. For the second time in his life, he felt extreme hatred towards one man.
Nikolai peered through his scope to see what he could. He saw a German behind cover, he waved his arm twice. So Nikolai moved his sight back over to the clearing. God help us. He thought to himself as he saw the monstrous hunk of metal move over the clearing. He whistled twice as loud as he could. He looked again through his scope. The tank was now pointing directly at him. He immediately pushed himself back. He fell off of the high rise which was only about ten feet off the ground. He hit the ground har, but got right back up.
He made it only a few feet before he practically ran into the Leitenant he had left only about an hour ago. "What is it comrade? Tanks?" He said. Before Nikolai could respond an enormous explosion struck behind him. It hit the building that he was just in, decimating it completely. Both of the men ducked and leapt for cover. "Sappers!" The Leitenant yelled as three sappers came up to their position. "We need to take out that tank! Nikolai get to a vantage point and cover the sappers!" Nikolai nodded and sprinted over to a broken out bomb shell where he took off his helmet and placed it on top of it with a few rags next to it. He then jogged about thirty steps to it's right.
He laid down and took a few deep breath's. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He peered through his scope and saw the tank round the corner. A German private following on it's left side. He calmed his breathing and squeezed the trigger. It hit the German directly in the chest and he fell. Nikolai quickly pulled the bolt back without taking his eyes off of the other three Germans. They were both on the tank's left side walking single file, but crouched. He saw one man point at where his diversion was set. The shot at the helmet multiple times, peppering it. One of the Germans then stood up and raised his hand and said something. Just then Nikolai let another shot off. It hit the man in the throat going right through and struck the other man in the middle of the chest. The first man held his throat with blood pouring from it and fell to the ground choking. Nikolai didn't see the other one fall because the tank was looking in his direction again. He leapt from the mound and fell into a trench as the explosion shook the area. A few seconds later there was an even bigger explosions.
When Nikolai got back up he went to the cover right across from the Leitenant. He was laughing and walking towards Nikolai. "When we get back to the base comrade I will buy you some of the finest vodka you have ever tasted!" the man boomed.
"The sappers?"
"The sappers are fine comrade. Look for yourself!" The Leitenant said as he pointed to the two sappers who were sitting on a pile of rubble now. "You will be a hero for this comrade. Now Let's get some vodka." He said as he started walking away. "I don't want to be a hero. I want revenge."
