What Army will Your Character Serve Beneath? Nazi/German Army (Waffen-SS)
Nazi/German Army is the Only Option at The Moment:
Character History:
Aldebrando was born in the Schloss Altshausen in Altshausen, Germany on March 14th 1912. His father had served the German Empire during the Great War in the Warmacht and achieved the rank of Generalfeldmarschall, he retired shortly after the war and went into political life. His Father joined up with the NASDAP during its foundation and this choice would be intergral to his son’s future. Aldebrando followed in his father’s footsteps and would be one of the founding members of the Jugendbund der NASDAP (Which later became the Hitler-Jugend), despite his family being based out of Altshausen, he was still the 4th member on the roll. The young Aldebrando would strictly adhere to the tenets of that organization throughout his youth. In deed his place amid the Warmacht of Hitler’s Germany was assured since birth, it was only a matter of what division. Aldebrando’s adherence to the tenets was not unnoticed by his superiors, nor was his keeping the local division of his unit operating during both of the major suspensions/suppressions by the German Government.
In 1930 Aldebrando left the junior level of the group and went on to serve as an adult leader as he attended the University of Munich to take his Psychology Degree. This would also mark the point in his life when he formally enrolled in the SS and transferred his membership from the Students League to the NASDAP Proper. His time in the University was noted by many of his professors, as being one of the brightest stars to pass through the halls in their life time. Aldebrando completed two Masters’ degrees during his 4 years at the school, one in Psychology and the other in German History. In 1934 he would leave fulltime schooling and transfer to the Waffen-Schutzstaffel, he had chosen them as during his time as both a member and leader of the Hitler-Jugend, and he wished to follow in his father’s militant footsteps amid the New Order. He rose through the ranks easily enough, and due to his ties to the Hitler-Youth would serve as the official Schutzstaffel liaison, this would also put him in regular contact with the members of the Schutzstaffel leadership including Heinrich Himmler himself. During the next 5 years he would serve in a primarily administrative post, though he was often called out by his fellow Waffen-SS who thought him to be incompetent combat wise. Every single man who called him out; would find themselves on their backs or otherwise humiliated, by the often soft-spoken and academic Aldebrando who spent all of his off time in combat training. Though it was with the Hitler-Jugend that he truly shined, he seemed to be able to connect with the boys on a personal level, and would often be seen with a brood of HJ boys who moved about him in a protective formation as he spoke to them about matters of Honour and Combat.
For years Henrich Himmler had wanted to have more control over the HJ and through Aldebrando he found his link, and he would personally task Aldebrando with influencing the youth and leadership of the HJ to sympathize with the SS. Aldebrando was honoured to be trusted with such an assignment from his superior and took to his secret task with a fervor and dedication that befit an SS Officer. When war broke out, Aldebrando would spend the first 4 years of it continuing his administrative duties, but as the war progressed he found himself pulled further and further from those duties and into combat situations. In 1943 he was re-assigned to the 12th SS-Panzer-Division as a senior officer overseeing many of the boys that he had personally groomed and prepared for service amid the SS. Aldebrand would see his military career come to an end in the failing days of the war, in mid-march 1945 he was wounded and despite treatment was doomed to death. He ordered the SS Surgeon not to inform his troops that he was to die, and continued to lead them through until the end of the war. On May 5th 1945 while he lay dying in a ditch he ordered his ‘boys’ to surrender to the first Americans they could find, for it was through them that the Reich, the Fuehrer, the SS, and most importantly the HJ would live on. The boys performed an SS Funeral service for him and commend his soul to the afterlife in a great pyre, and a few days later the remaining 10,000 survivors would turn themselves over to the Americans, though not one of the boys from Aldebrands Boys would ever forget him, nor the positive effect he had had on their lives. And every year they would gather at the site of his Pyre to remember him and the legacy that he had left.
Military Rank: I am thinking SS-Standartenführer (SS), Stabsführer (HJ), NASDAP Party Member. I realize that Colonel is a high rank, but due to his family history (both Politicaly, Socialy and Militarily through his Father) as well as his unfailing dedication to the NASDAP and his time in the HJ preparing for service in the SS, I don’t see this as being too far out of the realm of possibility. But I leave it up to you.
Writing Sample:
Aldebrando had been disconnected from his Boys during the aftermath of an assault action. He was moving stealthily through the darkness of the night, trying his best to make as little impact as possible. By his estimates he was behind enemy lines. He knew that his Boys would be looking for him, but at the same time so would the enemy. He advanced through the underbrush slowly toward the heart of the German Reich. Aldebrando stopped suddenly he realized that he was being followed, he continued to move and purposefully through himself down into a small gully. The narrow of dirt was barely wide enough to house him but it did. He stilled his breathing and removed his HJ knife from its sheath. He made sure to keep it covered by his great coat so as not to give his location away with the glint of the moon. He waited with bated breath as a figure came into view above him searching. Aldebrando counted slowly as the man crossed over his body. He then leapt up flipping his torso forward, he caught the man by surprise and sent him sprawling forward, and both his trusted HJ knife and the man’s rifle went flying. The pair of men sprawled through the underbrush making an ungodly amount of noise till they came to a stop. Aldebrando was the first to recover and quickly leapt toward his enemy like a tiger, drawing his SS knife as he went, he drove the knife up under the man’s ribcage and into his heart. But it was not a perfect attack; he looked down toward his foe and saw the man’s limp hand slide off his bayonet which was now lodged firmly in Aldebrando’s thigh not far from his groin. Aldebrando chuckled as he fell backward, after all these years he was finally felled, not by a living man but by the death throes of a dead one. Aldebrando quickly turnecated his leg as best as possible and fell into sleep.
He was awakened shortly before dawn by four of his boys who were carrying him back toward the front. The SS Surgeon treated him as best he could, but due to the unit’s disconnection from the supply lines, such as they were this late in the war, he couldn’t be sure that the wound would not get infected. Aldebrando ordered the Surgeon not to tell the boys as they still needed leadership.
