What Army will Your Character Serve Beneath?
USSR
Character History:
Laya was always an eager, energetic person. Se was quite large, over 6 feet tall, and was always able to stay as fit as she could. If something took her interest, she'd dive right into the subject. When the war started in 1939, she did something that would no doubt help her later: she dedicated her time to learning new languages. She spent nearly two years of exhaustive study every day. Finally, she had mastered German and English, each as if they were her first language. She also learned French, although not nearly as well as the first two, and with heavy accent. She wouldn't have time to improve.
But then, in 1941, Germany invaded. She was forced to abandon her home. During the run, both her parents were killed by a stray high explosive shell. Laya herself barely escaped. But from that point on, she was convinced. She was determined to take far more German lives before they could take hers...if they could.
Although barely 20, she joined to Red Army as quickly as she could, taking the first available position...albeit infantry wasn't exactly her first choice. But it would do. She practiced with her rifle and other weapons all she could. What use were such things if you didn't know how to use them? When she entered her first battle, she did batter than she thought she would. She had 4 kills, including a tank commander. Of course, that's not saying that tanks weren't a major pain...and their own tanks weren't too good. That is, until the T-34 appeared. She first saw the T-34 during her third month in combat. Laya was quite impressed, and wondered what it would be like to operate one...

Writing Sample:
Scenario: You’re alone behind enemy lines and you get the eerie feeling someone’s watching you. You’re trying to remain quiet, stay low, work your way back to the front lines - but you can’t help but feel you’re being followed… (How does your character React? What’s running through their mind?)
Laya sneaked around. This was quite a bad place to be caught; she wasn't even sure how the enemy hadn't already found her long ago. But she did know where her lines were. She thought to herself... “I must keep quiet, stay in the shadows...” Se looked at her overall size. “If I'll fit.” But at the same time, she felt she was being watched and followed. Who could it be? She never saw anyone that seemed to notice her.
Other than that feeling, it seemed there was little that would be able to give her away, except one thing... “Gluuuuuurrg!!” She was very hungry. She couldn't remember the last time she ate, except that it was at least 18 hours ago... “Dammit, of all the places....” She thought. And her empty stomach was becoming increasingly obvious. “I need a place to hide!” She knew, however, that she was almost there—she could hear gunfire in the distance.
Laya hid in a bomb crater and thought of her situation, but mostly to rest. Her feet were sore, her legs were cramping, her back ached, her eyes were burning, and she was exhausted and starving. “And behind enemy lines to top it off...at least this will give me a chance to say 'I've been in worse situations' later in my life...”
Dawn was nearing. She stood, quietly groaned, and moved on. And yet, she still felt that she wasn't completely alone...
