Alright, I've begun to research a little into the Battle of the Bulge and am going to try and do this thread as realistically as possible. Of course, we might have to kill the realism a wee bit, but oh... who cares!
So, my plan is, that Merhoff gets evacuated after the initial assaults of the Ardennes Offensive and finds himself in Metz, France. He's in American captivity, seeing as he was captured by Ealing I believe, so they're preparing to take him and good portion of officers that were captured across the English Channel and then to America. They are all interrogated and whatnot, before negotiations are started between Germans and Americans. It seems the Germans don't want any information of the offensive spilled, because of the officers and are willing to make a deal. Merhoff and his fellow prisoners are diverted from Metz and make their way down towards Strasbourg near the edges of the Allied lines.
To make the story short, the negotiations are canceled and it seems an Axis offensive is eminent in the area. The Americans are sure the Germans won't move through the Vosges, so that's where the prisoner convoy heads to make way to a safer place. As it turns out through, Operation Nordwind is launched and the convoy comes in contact with the Germans. The 21st Panzer Division is set on getting their Hauptmann back and so, assault the convoy on a mountain road.
However, that's not the end of the story however. The convoy was split into thirds. The first two were higher ups that had managed to get caught during the offensive, or even before hand. Either, they held a high rank or they knew more about the offensive than the others. Merhoff came in the third, which fortunately, arrived along the road during the same time as the 21st. He is rescued, but not for very long. The Allies push up and the small amount of men that had pushed forward to take back their Hauptmann are forced into hiding as the Allies advance over their positions. Basically, this provides us a second thread.
The second thread would consist of a desperate push back to the German lines. Towards the end, as the Americans being to take back a decently sized mountain town, we push in from behind and help defeat them. Finally, back into safety, we can finally throw that wild party as a late celebration to the New Year as well as Merhoff's freedom.
So, how does that all sound to all of you? And can I get a sound off from everyone who is going to be in it. Heiko and Dieter are definitely in right? What about PuNk, can you still be in it?

Yes, indeedy, I would very much like to be involved in the threads, although if one of them is too crowded, I can just hang out in the background as an NPC. But I don't want to miss the party-thread!
The ideas you had for the threads seem great to me, so just sign me up! Hopefully we can get this one rolling sometime soon, looking forward to it.

Sorry to the Allies that want in, I'm going to be keeping this strictly to the 21st. Not sure why you would sign up to lose anyway.
Anyhow, I've done some research and will provide Dieter/Heiko with some info before the thread. The thread will take place on January 4th, Merhoff will leave in his convoy about about 1700, or 5 PM. Due to snow and bad roads, the journey to where he is intercepted will be about two hours. So there will be some gaps in the time in our initial posts. Where as, I will be posting at 1700 you will be posting at 1800. The first posts will basically be neutral, I'll be boarding the convoy and you guys will be heading south for the road.
In the early morning to the afternoon of the 4th, Wingen-sur-Moder was captured by the Germans (although the 21st wasnt involved in it, we're just going to change that ). This was basically the furthest point that they got to during Operation Nordwind, as they were pushed back like 3 days later. So the plan will be that Merhoff's convoy will be detoured when they see that a nearby city up the road was taken and you guys will move in to intercept it.
So then once its all captured and done, we will realize that the Americans are passing by over us to counter attack the town. We'll delay the time of the counterattack, to make this mainly take place in the night for a coolness factor. Heiko will be leading, I'm thinking 20 men, about half of a platoon. This comes with a Panzershreck or two. The convoy will be fronted by a kubelwagen, followed by a truck, followed by a halftrack, followed by a second truck, followed by a second halftrack, and then another kubelwagen.
I'm thinking a few men will be killed and one of the halftracks destroyed as well as one of the trucks and both kubelwagens. Then in the second thread, we will take the truck and halftrack and advance up to Wingen. Here is a map of all this going down. The blue is the convoys advance from Haguenau, the red is where the convoy is ambushed, and the green is the move up to Wingen.
Now for Wingen, I was thinking we scale it down a bit from what I found on google maps. I thought that the town had grown over the decades so I thought the area circled in red would be the size of the town. Everything to the south would be forests, so our approach would be hidden and all that to the east would basically be farms.
I also drew up a second map with the positions of the Americans and Germans during our arrival. The green shows the way we entered which would be in the forests. The red and green circles show where the Germans and Americans would be located approximately. The blue line, I'm thinking, is where we enter the fight. Maybe we go straight up the middle, link up with the rest of the men and then cut the Americans in half. Could change it though. Might have to make the town bigger. The journey up to Wingen would extend to maybe 15-30 minutes. The battle would rage on for maybe another hour or so. Then around 2100, we could throw the party.

As I've already stated before, I'm kinda busy with my guys at the moment, but I've to admit that I looooooove the way you're researching all those history- stuff.
Really, makes the threads a lot more tempting and realistic.
And of course I would be more than happy to have a small NPC- appearance in the first thread, maybe angrily yelling at some recruits or someting ;D.
Anyways, please definetly count me in for the follow ups.

Heiko's held up this thread far too long. I'm kicking him out and bringing in someone more reliable on posting. Werner, would you like to fill his spot? We've had some good rps. If not, Steinbeck seems to be making a return to the RPage if he wants to join in?
