What Army will Your Character Serve Beneath? German
Character History: Roland Wickliff entered the world on July 1st, 1920, in a mid-sized home in Vienna, to a pair of smiling Austrians. Indeed, both Christoph and Hilde Wickliff were overcome with joy that their child was a son, and would be able to carry on the family name. several hour later, neither were too cheerful, as Hilde passed away from internal bleeding, a complication from the recent birth.
Roland's younger years were spent mostly in and around Vienna, studying and drinking in the Austrain landscape. Christoph was a military man, who had joined at a young age and participated in several battles throughout the Great War. At the time of Roland's birth, he had gone into training duty, and was a main drill sergeant for incoming recruits. Naturally, he assumed his son would join the armed forces, and his son shared this optimism. At the age of twelve, Roland was given a copy of Sun Tzu's: The Art of War, which he digested in short order. Soon after, the older man began to teach him the intricacies of war. These lessons were carried out daily, whenever Christoph had time, and were extremely in-depth. Indeed, Roland learned how to shoot his first firearm when he was but thirteen.
In between these sessions, Roland went out into the countryside surrounding Vienna, learning to love the rural areas for their charm and beauty. He explored much of this countryside with a group of friends he'd picked up at school. This group was loose and large, with people drifting in and out all the time. Few people remained constant.
Roland's life continued as such until his 18th birthday, when he joined the German army. It was only a few months after the Anschluss, and the Third Reich already looked to be gaining momentum. Indeed, little more than a year later, the newly trained Roland was sent to Poland to fight. He participated at the Battle of the Bzura, and was given the promotion to Obergefreiter.

Scenario: You’re alone behind enemy lines and you get the eerie feeling someone’s watching you. You’re trying to remain quiet, stay low, work your way back to the frontlines - but you can’t help but feel you’re being followed… (How does your character React? What’s running through their mind?)
Thump. Another patrol? Jesus, don't they have better things to do than back here?A roaring noise grew louder and louder, crescendoing into ripping sound, not unlike paper, as the motorcycle passed. Roland, lying prone amongst the dense leaves of the forest floor, stayed perfectly still until the cycle's raucous engine had disapated into nothing. Slowly rising up, the Austrian focused upon his hearing, listening intently for another incoming vehicle. His answer came by way of wind. As a strong gust blew in from the north, it brought with it another tearing sound. Little time was spared as he once again dropped to the ground, giving off another thump.
Roland had been traversing this forest for about an hour now, moving parallel to a road. Although this offered him a good mode of navigation, he had not gotten far due to the immense amount of traffic. He had gotten here in the first place due to a failed raid on an enemy ammo dump. The dump was only two miles past the front lines, so only a single squad was sent. A tank had been brought up to the lines and had created an opening, which his squad entered with the help of a half-track. However, the tank had been hit hard by an enemy anti-tank, and had pulled back. The frontlines re-sealed, and we were caught in behind. the mission was successful, but we were ambushed on our way out, and the squad dispersed throughout the combat.
As the sound of the most recent vehicle faded away, Roland probed the surrounding area for sounds, and this time, received one. Footsteps could be heard lightly in the distance, crunching on the leaves... and coming his way. Moving quickly, the Austrian crawled over to the nearest tree and stood behind it, his Mauser Karbine 98k held in front of him. He listened intently, his his being concentrating on the footsteps advancing towards him. They sounded off tempo, as though the approaching man's legs were injured. His heartbeat grew louder as the man approached, seeming to grow in direct proportion. Suddenly, the footsteps stopped.
Why- Sheis! That's where I was laying Indeed, the footsteps indicated that the man had stopped where Roland had lain, and he was even now probably looking at the impression the Austrian had left in the leaves. Before his enemy could investigate further, Roland leaped out from behind his cover, his rifle at his shoulder, and almost pulled the trigger. Almost. For in front of him, standing awkwardly in a bloodstained uniform, was his squad's leader, Stabsgefrieter Hans.
