Every time I insert a game into the 360 it says "reading" and makes a few noises then just gives me the offer to "Open Tray". When that happens I usually press open tray then close it again but again, it reads the disk for a while then gives me the offer to Open Tray again.

Thanks for the advise but I'm sure the problem isn't with the disks because I have tried many some in perfect condition and I also have a DVD lens cleaner that works on the 360 but that disk won't even work atm. And isn't smacking the XBOX risky? Where do I smack?
Your problem is probably with the laser reader. I had the same problem with mine a few months ago. It kinda fixed itself after a while but I couldn't find any real way of fixing it other than sending it out to be fixed professionally.
No what I meant is that I looked for a solution to the problem that I could do myself at home but couldn't find one and the only available option was sending it off to someone. I never sent it off but after a another few months of just not bothering with the console the problem just kinda went away on it's own.

They have a system set up for sending in to be fixed. Check the manual (if you still have that) and they will have all the information about it. Probably will want to call the customer support line that they would have (again check the manual for the number). If you want it working before the end of break, then the sooner you send it off the better.

Owen, come back! -JT I did -Owen Yeah, but you left again! -JT And then came back again! - Owen You should come back a third time, I've heard it's a charm! -JT
There are lots of possible reasons. I fixed all of them with a few short checks.
1. Went to Wal-Mart. Bought the Philips Laser cleaner, and disc cleaner, for around $10.00. 2. Went through the steps of the Laser cleaner on my 360, even though it says in the package NOT to use the laser cleaner on 360 products. 3. Cleaned the disc. This was almost always the problem. 360's are very picky about reading discs, so I was always clean them before use. 4. Inner-360 Dust removal.
Since my warranty was void anyways, (won't go into detail about that,) I removed the hard drive, the grey things on the top and bottom, and pulled wide the white outer case. Terrible. Very dusty, dirty, and nasty. I used my hand to get what dust I could reach, and blew hard on the rest to kick it out.
After this, go about normal use. You will most likely need to clean the disc each time before using it, though try it first to make sure. No use wasting the disc cleaner liquid.
But hey, my warranty was void anyways, so I couldn't send mine back.
