WANTED: Neutral Characters!

Addie the RPer is looking to RP with more neutral RP characters for those willing to RP such a character. Neutral characters make up a very small percentage of IO characters, yet they can be as diverse as soldiers; many civilians suffered during the hard times of WWII. Refugees, prisoners, and many other interesting characters can be a neutral, and they can be a good starting point for anyone in a Issuing Orders. Not everyone is battle-savvy, and they may be intimidated by the hostile section of the site at first. Also, medics would be interesting, since only a few play a medical role here on IO.

There are also a number of character subtypes which I would enjoy to see more of on IO:

-Female characters, since the WWII era saw many changes in attitudes towards women, as well as the breaking of many gender roles.

-Minors (especially below enlisting age), since the majority of IO's characters are 18+.

-Disabled characters, since I think only my Vivienne and Strumfelder's namesake character would count as "disabled". Their perspectives on the war - especially disabled men of enlisted age - are perspectives I'd like to see roleplayed.

-Characters with more diverse ethnicites, since the majority of IO characters are ethnic British, ethnic American, or ethnic German, or of descent of these ethinicities. I would be especially interested if anyone played a non-stereotypical Roma (Gypsy) or Pavee (Irish Traveller). If you need information on those ethnicities, please do not hesitate to contact me via PM.

Excellent point Addie, I was actually going to create a Kriminalpolizei (Kripo) or Ordnungspolizei (Orpo) character to role play with upon this website; Both are types of German policeman within the decade of the second world war, but both handle different affairs. From state inquiries, to your standard policeman on the beat.

I may still create this neutral character I had in mind, a mere bystander of the Kripo or Orpo, whos life becomes entangled within the affairs of the Nazi Party and Nazi Germany. I feel it could make quite an interesting character, however, may I suggest a few more roles that could possibly be used by our community?

- Postal Service; This career path could have you role playing in and out of military affairs.

- Military Police (MP); I'm sure there has been many military rule breakers here, from tussles fought between soldier characters on the courtyard or officers breaking fundamental codes of conduct. Having a crack team/division of the military police could restore order. Perhaps.

- Supply Officers/Merchants; You would be utterly surprised, but I have seen many merchant navy medals and the men & woman who supplied the frontlines were fundamentally crucial to the war effort, as of that to an ordinary soldier. Once again, these roles enable neutral characters both in and out of military secluded zones.

- Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO); These were undoubtedly the backbone of troop morale during the tough times of the war, every nationality had their own morale boosters and the VSO was crucially amongst the frontlines of raising troop spirit, utterly ranging from special cooked meals one evening, to comedy-plays performed by volunteers on the stage.

The role of a VSO is endless.

Wow, great suggestions, Angel! ;D I'm glad you mentioned them - I was leaving the invitation open to people who wanted to create whatever neutral they wanted, but your suggested civilian roles could really add depth to the roleplay.

I was planning on creating Prudence Chamberlain into an actual character, but that could only come into play after Owen actually meets with her in a neutral thread. Maybe in the next while though, I could do that.

I need more action so I was thinking about making an Irish Medic who doesn't have direct ties to Axis or Allies. If you have any suggestions about it feel free to chime in. I'd like to hear from an experienced RPer.

I'm tempted to make a medic account although not very neutral more of a British combat medic. But I probably won't because I already have 3 accounts.

I have been thinking about making a neutral character, most likely someone who would have operated in Axis areas.

I was pondering about creating a Finnish Lotta as a character, but haven't figured out how to give her a good reason to travel away from Finland. I'm sure I could come up with something, though.

I also thought about making a Aufseherin, a female guard, but she wouldn't really be a neutral character, although not quite military either.

But yeah, I have some ideas floating around and I would be really interested in RP'ing a slightly different character. It might also be nice to RP a character who is related or otherwise previously familiar with an already existing character on the boards.

Going off topic here for a moment, but maybe we should start another thread - one to advertise for character families that someone might want built upon. Meaning, you could see if anyone wanted to make a new character that was part of one of your characters' family.

Back on topic, though - strange as this may sound, you could always make a child or an adolescent, Dieter. If you had say...an orphan, that fled from Finland for whatever reason, that could make an interesting character.

Atleast make a Finn, I am feeling lonely. You could make a Finnish neutral character who supports the Allies though like a 16 year old helping the loyal Finnish soldiers who are helping the Allies.

I'm currently typing up the bio for my neutral character. I decided to make him an orphan after thinking the idea throught a bit, but he is going to be pretty young, most likely a little over 10-years old. And yes, he is a Finn, Vaalto. ;D

I also think a separate thread for possible family members / friends would be nice, it would create good basis for nice RP-plots and maybe make it easier for some people to come up with a neutral character.
