OOC: It’s simple, but that’s all it needs to be.
Methinks you can close it now, Strum.
”Shit” Daniel muttered as he turned around to see an unconscious Private Smith being carried by Teal. He was just about to run back and help when the enemy opened fire on the easy target. Daniel threw himself to the ground, but Teal kept on walking until he made it to cover. ”What happened to him?!” Daniel called. ”I don’t know, he just fainted!” Teal called back furiously, not mentioning the painful wound in his foot.
Daniel was about to reply when the Germans started making their move. He jammed down on the trigger and cut one of them down as he was running away. Shooting a man in the back should have made him feel bad, but the middle of battle is no place for honour. A few seconds later a couple of Germans jumped out of the trench and started charging. He jammed down on the trigger again and one of them fell. He turned towards the other and squeezed the trigger again, but nothing happened. ”Damn...” he hissed. The weapon had jammed. Luckily Private Teal stayed on the ball and fired a few lucky shots at the second soldier. He slumped to the ground where he lay, twitching. Daniel grabbed for his Colt at Teals call. He tossed the pistol to Teal who pulled off an impressive feat by catching it and then emptying the clip into the last remaining German.
Daniel let out a sigh of relief and gave a nervous grin to Teal. Suddenly a German uniform dived over the ridge, weapon pointed straight at them. The trigger was pulled, but nothing happened. This appeared to have used up the last of his strength, for he fell to the ground. Daniel, looked at Teal, mouth open in shock. He dropped his Johnson to the ground; he would fix the jam later. He stepped over to Teal and handed him another clip for the Colt. ”Only use it if you have to” Daniel told him. ”We’re taking prisoners” He picked up Teals discarded Garand, blew at it to remove the sand, and reloaded it. He started walking to where the flamethrower had gone off and nearly threw up at the sight. Horribly burnt and mutated bodies lay everywhere. It would have been bad enough if they were corpses, but they weren’t. Most of these men were still alive; moaning in pain and rolling on the ground. He searched his limited German vocabulary for a word which he could use.
”Achtung!” He shouted, pointing his rifle at them menacingly. He gestured with his rifle for them to stay put. He turned around and shouted: ”Doc! Over here!”
