OOC: I, uh, hope I'm allowed to post now.

The assault didn’t start too well, with Smyth and Private Troy being struck down within a few seconds of each other. Luckily, the Medic on hand quickly dragged Smyth back from the ridge and started doing his thing. The young Private Smyth didn’t look too good; Daniel tried to cheer him up with a few kind hearted words. ”He’ll be alright. Doc knows what he’s doing.” Daniel said, somewhat cheerfully. Well, he hoped Doc knew what he was doing. Daniel looked back at Smyth for a second. He was tough, he was sure to make it.
Within a short amount of time the enemy responded in force, a barrage of bullets being sent their way. Somehow, Private Teal didn’t manage to hit any of them, despite the fact he had his rifle trained right on the trench. Luck obviously wasn’t with the small force today. Daniel cursed as Private McClosky received a massive splinter in his chest from a bullet hitting a tree. ”Ah, fuck.” he blurted out. How the hell had that happened?! The enemy shouldn’t have even been able to see them, let alone hit them! Smith still looked ready to bolt, so Daniel tried his best to keep the moral up. ”See Smith? Doc knows what he’s doing. He’s already on the case!” Daniel grinned. It was a fake grin, really; he knew they were doing badly and they needed to pull out soon if things didn’t start turning their way. ”Reload” Daniel called out to Smith and Teal. It was never good to face the enemy with only half a clip.
Then came an explosion from Burns and his group. This was what Daniel had been waiting for. ”Smith, Teal! They will be distracted by Burns and will surely have turned around! Suppress them… and keep low for fucks sake!” Daniel didn’t voice his suspicions aloud that the explosion had been the untimely demise of Burns. Hopefully the two Privates wouldn’t even have time to think about the explosion because of his quick orders. He crouched down and mounted his Johnson on the ridge, careful to keep the bare minimum of his body showing. The three opened fire on the trench, Daniel just spraying burst of 3 or 4 bullets, while the two riflemen actually aimed at the targets (who would hopefully be suppressed quickly and thus, unable to fire.
His 20 round magazine expired and he quickly reached for a grenade hanging from his webbing. He stayed below the ridge while Teal and Smith covered him, pulled the pin and waited for only about one and a half seconds before he stood up a bit higher and threw it – as accurately as he could – towards the trench. In his opinion, it really wasn’t worth it cooking the grenade for 2 and half seconds. It just added the risk of being shot in the process and blowing himself up. He didn’t wait to see what damage the grenade had done. ”Pull back into the trees!” he ordered Smith and Teal. The three men dropped below the surface of the ridge and ran, bent over double, back until they were into the trees. The enemy would think they had just dropped behind the ridge again and if they dared to throw grenades over the ridge, they would be wasted.
Daniel mounted the Johnson on the ground and reloaded it. Germans were prone to bayonet charges, and if they came charging over the ridge, they would have quite a surprise coming to them. Daniel was sure to also position himself right beside a tree that he could roll behind if he met trouble. Private Teal moved to a position behind a tree that was overlooking the area the explosion occurred from. There was some smoke in the way now, but when it cleared he would ready to rain a hail of bullets on any survivors. Daniel sucked up the courage to say the words he didn’t want to say. ”If there are too many of them and they start making it over the ridge alive… pull back. We’ll come back with some armour support in a few days. It’s better to retreat from a battle and live, rather than fighting to the end and dieing.” He said solemnly.
The happenings of the last few seconds had all been a hazy blur to Private Braeburn. He had seen the grenade get thrown and had just about noticed it landing, before It exploded; putting him into a world of pain. A few seconds later a loud explosion racked the area and he heard loud screams of pain and an odd smell in the air. His vision blurry, he looked to his right and came on the site of a German soldier that had been half burned to death. The man appeared to be in much more pain than him and that gave him a little last satisfaction. His face had been mutilated terribly and he thought he could hear little whines of pain coming from the man. He was angry and it gave him the strength to reach to his belt and pull out his knife. This bastard had killed his friends and he would pay. He dragged himself over to the German, gasping quietly at every movement. He shakily plunged the knife into the chest of the scum. He panted heavily, exhausted by the movement.
OOC: Meh, I tried my best. I really doubt the Braeburn thing will work, but I had to try!
