Name: Felix Odegaard
Nationality: Norwegian
What Army will Your Character Serve Beneath?
Heer (but will hopefully transfer to the Waffen SS)
Character History:
Felix Odegaard was born in Oslo, Norway on April 24, 1905. His father was a middle class banker and his mother a seamstress. They lived happily in a small residential area of the city.
The economy was booming. The GDP rose by 55 per cent, and the population grew rapidly and the rose. This was a result of the second phase of the industrial revolution, which in Norway was characterized by the exploitation of cheap workforces. The electrochemical and electro metallurgical industries were built up, and new products appeared on the market. Big concerns such as Norsk Hydro were established and a number of new industrial centres sprang up.
Until WWI broke out.
Although Norway and Felix were neutral throughout the whole war, many seamen lost there lives, including Filex's uncle, who was killed when his small ship collided with a British mine that was layed for nearby German warships.
Felix was devastated. A hatred for the allies burned up within the child, and he slowly drifted away from his country and felt compelled to side with Germany. But the Axis power's fate was inevitable. When Germany was crushed by the Allies, Felix resumed normal life.
Felix had taken up the life of a banker when Adolf Hitler had come into power in Germany. Immediately Felix's love in Germany was rekindled. When war broke out in 1939, Felix knew what he had to do.
Hiring a tutor for German, he quickly learned the language and bought a first class ship ticket to sail to Germany. Leaving all his friends and family behind, he landed in a small German port city.
Finding the nearest recruitment base, the thirty-five year old enlisted in the Nazi Army.
Military Rank: Stabsgefreiter
Writing Sample:
Felix breathed heavily as he threw himself against the small bank of soil. His black helmet framed his deathly pale, dirt smudged face and bright blue eyes. The beginnings of wrinkles spread across his face, magnified by the shadows cast by the tall evergreen trees.
His squad's small patrol of the Eastern Russian wilderness had turned deadly when Soviet Infantry flanked them, wiping out most of his squad. After emptying a few shots on the attacking infantry, he had seen his only options was to flee or die needlessly.
He had trotted maybe 25 meters when he stopped. Pulling open the bolt to his Mauser a spent casing bounced onto the ground soundlessly. Taking a deep breath, Felix lept from his cover and continued his trot.
The Norwegian picked up his pace over the forest floor. He couldn't' tell if the small clicking of boots was his own, a Soviet's, or simply a figment of his imagination.
The sharp crack of gunfire rang out and several splinters of wood shot out of a tree to Felix's right. Realizing it was meant for him, he dove behind a pine to his left. Crouching close to the ground, he peeked through the needles to see his attacker.
He spotted them, two Russian infantrymen wielding bolt-action rifles. They were muttering about and looking for the German who had evaded there grasp. Idiots. Felix would drop them. Or so he hoped...
Slowly Felix pushed the barrel of his rifle through the branches. The muzzle looked just like another branch. Blue eyes peered down the Iron Sights and centered in on a mustached face. Slowly, Felix's finger squeezed down on the trigger. Felix waited, waited for the rifle to go off. Waited...
