He never learned where or when they died, but his mother told him that they were together in the last letter she received.
After the war, his two other brothers Heinrich and Friedrich moved to Russia to become doctors. Other than a few letters on holidays he does not speak to them. His only sister Sasha was left to care for him and his mother and she did so for eight years. Erik began hanging around with Nazi supporters during his teenage years, and when WWII broke out and Erik joined the Nazi regime. His mother begged him not to join, but Erik knew that it was the only way to restore honor in his family.

Writing Sample:
The sky light up for a brief moment, and everything around Erik was illuminated. He was laying on the ground with his gun in his hand. Every time a shell hit the ground he would take the chance to take in his surroundings. He did not know where he was, nor how he got there. The last thing he remembered was being behind his commander, then he heard a loud bang and all went black. The seriousness of the situation began to sink in as he realized he was alone.
The vision of his father's face came to his mind as Erik began to feel scared. "To survive in this world you must be strong Erik, to be strong you must never give up" came the sound of his voice. His father used to tell Erik and his brothers such things as they grew up. They lived by such morals all their lives, but know it seemed Erik was forgetting. "Never surrender..." came the sound of his older brother Andreas.
With a few deep breaths Erik rolled over and got up on all fours. He was behind a low hill, and slowly crawled his way to the top. As he got near the top he began to hear voices. His heart began to beat faster and faster but he kept crawling until he could peer over. The view turned out to be a small Canadian camp, with about a dozen or so soldiers eating and re-gearing for the front lines.
Erik looked passed the small encampment as saw the long black fields to the German front lines. He knew that he would have to go through this camp if he was ever to get back. With a deep breath and a look to the sky, Erik slowly stood up and began to walk to the camp. He reached the camp without being spotted, the first part was over. He peered over a large crate to see about five or six soldiers loading their guns. Erik was about to move around the side of the camp when he knocked over a pile of pans. The noise was very loud, and instinctively he began to run.
Erik ran to the other side of the camp and he heard as the buzz of the camp began to grow loud. A few soldiers checked to see what had fallen, while some more began to check the camp. "Someone's here..." Erik heard from a deep voice. "Shut up Smith, the greasy pans fell on there own" barked another voice. After a few moments the buzz ceased and Erik let out a deep sigh of relief. When he made it back to the German front lines, he was given a few hours rest but then he was right back into the trenches.
