Character History:
Amery was born in Liverpool on the 23rd of January 1922. He was the result of his mother being raped and therefore never found out who his father was. He had lived with his mother and his older brother who was 14 months older than him. They struggled to survive. His mother remarried when Amery was six months old and their house was close to being taken away from them. Her new husbands name was Adan Ballard.
Amery grew up with enough money to get by and have a lot of the things that he wanted. He grew up and learned that this was his house, that Adan was his father and that he had always lived here. When he was seven he finally learned the truth. He was angry that his mother and Stepfather had hidden this from him. His brother found out at the same time. That night Amery ran away from home and lived on the streets. He had tried to convince his brother to come with him but his older brother decided no to follow.
His mother and Stepfather were angry and sad because of what Amery had done. Their grief effected Amery's Brother who soon ran away himself. Amery had reached London by then. He had jumped onto the back of carts, snuck on to trains, stolen money and hired a taxi and stole his food and asked for some water. He was barely ever denied water. His brother had done something similar but had gone west towards Llandudno. He had stayed there for a while and then gone south to Newport.
Amery lived the rest of his childhood on the streets until he enlisted in the army after seeing one of their posters at the age of 16 in 1938. He trained hard and had occasionally been complimented for his resourcefulness and strength. This was most likely because of his years on the street.
When war broke out the next year he did not get sent to the front lines immediately as he had been wounded in a training exercise after falling out of a tree. He had broken his leg after falling from high up when trying to get a good shot with his Scoped Lee-Enfield when the branch snapped.
He was positioned in the North of France and any time there were important Nazi officials passing through he and a team of nine other snipers were placed on various rooftops. He succeeded in killing a Nazi General and a Nazi Government Official in his time out there. He also succeeded in protecting the Allied Officials and General's when they passed through.
He was then moved to the 49th Infantry. He fought with them on many campaigns and racked up the kills even grounding a Stuka that was flying towards him after its dive. He had shot the pilot through the head twice. He was awarded medals for bravery and various other achievements during the war.
When the war ended he continued in the army and fought in various other conflicts after the war.

The cold Winter's air was burning Amery's hand. He never liked having his trigger hand gloved and had decided that seeing as he would only be here for 5 hours that the temperature was not going to give him frostbite in that time. Even though he had decided this he had put the glove in his pocket incase his hand got really cold.
He placed a new magazine in his Lee-Enfield as he sat down and pulled out his make-shift bi-pod of two sticks tied across each other to form an x shape. There was a long and thin piece of twine wrapped around the middle of both sticks where they crossed. He placed the 'X' on the ground and placed his gun on it. He was on top of a building in Strasburg or 'Strazboor' as the locals pronounce it. Amery was part of the watch. He had been stationed on the northern facing part of the town.
The night was quiet. Amery had been lying still on the roof for about an hour when he heard the distinctive sound of Jericho's Trumpet's.
'Fuck!' he said.
He picked up the bi-pod and pushed it into his pocket. He slung his rifle over his shoulder and slid off the roof and onto a balcony that was a few feet below him. He landed on the cold concrete almost perfectly but then an explosion threw him off balance. The building to his left had been hit. He swung himself acrobatically over the railing and landed on all fours on the ground below. His black wavy hair fell onto his face and tickled his neck and cheeks. He stood up and began To run towards the edge of the town.
He had lost his helmet during the first fall and had not bothered to pick it up. He knew where he had to go and began running over there. He was knocked into the perimeter wall once when a bomb went off in the building on his right exploded. A piece of shrapnel flew into his arm. It slit his skin and he could feel the warm liquid flowing down his arm. There was a hot stinging pain where the shrapnel had hit.
He carried on running towards the barracks. They were lucky to still be mostly intact. There was a Stuka sticking out of the roof that had obviously been shot down by the Anti-Aircraft gun as the airplane dived. The bomb luckily had not exploded. There was a platoon of men standing outside with their guns ready.
'Colonel, what are we to do?' Amery asked seeing the old Colonel standing by the barracks.
'Run. Run to the hills. Save ourselves. There is nothing we can do here. Stay in the hills and return here in three days at the longest earlier if possible!' the elderly man shouted.
Amery ran over to John and Percy who were standing waiting for him.
'Let's go boys,' Amery said as he ran past them.
They followed him and the trio ran towards the hills. They ran across the bridge that separated the town from the outside world. The ground from then on was grassy and dotted with small boulders. They made it to the hills within an hour and sat down. They looked back at the city. The Stukas disappeared from the area but were likely to return, they had done every other time.
They spent the next two days hiding in one of the small forests in the hills shooting deer and other game for food and took their water from the stream.
On the third day the fires in the town had extinguished themselves or had been extinguished by the townspeople or the remaining Garrison. Amery had been annoyed with the Colonel's judgment and he thought that it was based on his sense of fear alone. He had not thought it through or anything. But three days off seemed like a dream even if they had to find their own food and drink.
They returned to Strasburg that day and found that over one hundred people had been killed. This was the biggest death toll the Stuka raids had inflicted this month. They usually only took up to fifty but had done over double this already, and there were still piles of rubble to sort through. Amery knew that the regiment had a long few days and even weeks ahead of them. The Stukas would not return this month.
